Lyrics:
LIZZY:
i didn’t mean to kiss you
i mean i did but i didn’t think it’d go this far
i didn’t mean to kiss you
now you can’t focus on the road when i’m in your car
now we’re going 100
your hands aren’t on the wheel cause you’re just
staring at me like you’re not convinced that i am real
and now we’re at 180
and i can finally see
but then it’s over in a second
crashed the car into the tree
yeah i can see it all happen
you’d rather die than take your eyes off me
i don’t like you like that
i’m a careful driver
and i tell you all the time
to keep your eyes on the road
but you love me like that
you’re a reckless driver
and one day it’ll kill us
if i don’t let go
BEN:
i don’t know how to tell you
that i feel safe when you sit shotgun
never felt this way with no one
and i lie when i tell you
i know exactly where we’re going
i get lost just for this moment
but now we’re at 100
my hands aren’t on the wheel
and i don’t wanna lose this moment
want you to know just how i feel a
nd now we’re at 180
and i can finally see
but then it’s over in a second
crashed the car into the tree
i don’t know how it happened
guess i’d die to keep your eyes on me
cause i love you like that
i’m a reckless driver
and you tell me all the time
to keep my eyes on the road
do you love me like that?
if i keep on driving
will you hold me when we crash
or would you let me go?
LIZZY:
don’t wanna scrape you off the pavement
i can’t be your savior
i don’t wanna be here
when you lose control
don’t wanna watch it as it happens
see the crowd’s reaction
i don’t wanna be here
when you kill us both
i don’t love you like that
(BEN: cause i love you like that)
i’m a careful driver
(BEN: i’m a reckless driver)
and i tell you all the time to keep your eyes on the road
(BEN: and you tell me all the time to keep my eyes on the road)
but you love me like
(BEN: do you love me like that?)
you’re a reckless driver
(BEN: if i keep on driving)
and one day it’ll kill us if i don’t let go
(BEN: will you hold me when we crash or would you let me go?)

this bridge is my new favourite piece of music i’m not joking. the layered voices make it sound so hectic and distressing, and the music video plays into that sensation perfectly, leading right to the ending that actually does feel like jolting in your seat before you hit something WHEW

also, maybe the video suggests that she cannot handle conflict and confrontation very well so that tension built up and exploded because she gave those moments too much thought and power, whereas that confrontation didn’t mean too much to him, which makes me soooo like her… confrontation and i’m gone which is so unhealthy but simply reality

The way Lizzy sings "And I tell you all the time to keep your eyes on the road" with such urgency and anxiety is just genius. The emotion behind her work is practically palpable.

can we talk about the anxiety and build-up and how it went on into an abrupt ending? It is so raw and real, and encapsulates the relationship perfectly

Woow i thought most of her fans was Swifties to
I love how at 'Doomsday' she had the skull makeup on her face when she thought she was dead in her ex's mind.... But now she's seeing the same skull makeup on the current guy's face prolly resembling how he and the love between them is dead to her... cause she's still hanging on to her past.... Lizzy's new era of music is everything.. Loving every bit of it
Oh God, this is phenomenal. And 2:16 hit me like a truck.

This perfectly encapsulates the absolute fear in placing your heart in someone's hands again when it's not even finished healing. Past relationships sometimes always ruin future ones if we can't work through it. Amazing song writer and musician

The storyline and reoccurring makeup are just beautiful. The acting is wonderful as well
I gotta say I was not expecting the song to end so abruptly. Considering that this was the first song I've listened to by Lizzy this gave me a good impression so I'm gonna listen to, "all my ghosts" soon
This is absolutely stunning! And 2:22 hits completely different!!

I love how the video feels like it has two POVs just like the song does! SO GOOD!!!!!
The cacophony in the bridge/outro is so perfect. Lizzy's greatest asset in my opinion as a songwriter is her use of timbre, you can tell she really understands music color, and how to express it through progressions. I got a similar feeling as the first time I heard Karma Police by Radiohead, so definitely a good sign.
New fan here (mid 60s and musician) The build up in this song is great. And the ending…speechless! This is like watching a movie in my head. The production is excellent! I can feel the rush in this song and love the abruptness! Amazing! Godspeed!
i’m loving this new era and the ongoing storyline so much. every track and mv is beautiful all around
That was freakin amazing. Everything. This Album seems like it's gonna be breathtaking. I hope so much that you'll tour in Europe.
Bloody hell! It's so rare that a songwriter can give me chills anymore. I'm very thankful for artists like LM.
First of all you’re a genius. This song means so much to me. I’m a born reckless driver. Listening to the thoughts of a careful driver just gives so much inside to my past and current partners. My empathy is growing. It’s healing to not just think of them in negativ ways. Oh god. I like got to calm down. This hyped me up so much.😂

I don't know the artists just found and really liked the song so I don't understand what "reckless driver" here mean. Other than literally ofc.
@ratboygirl
Жыл бұрын
@@c.w.61 hi i'm two months late but i thought i'd explain it anyway? best way i could think to describe a "reckless driver" in this context is someone who is self-destructive and easily infatuated - ie a person who "falls in love too fast" and has some insecurities about their relationship. in contrast, a "careful driver" is somebody who is more reluctant to let themselves fall in love and is trying to set boundaries. a "reckless driver" depends on the "careful driver" and it creates this sort of toxic situation where one person grows obsessive (won't keep their eyes on the road) while the other distances themselves - making the reckless driver feel abandoned
mah god. especially the two different chorus but with a twist and the whole theatrics when combined at the end - I can’t. y’all killing me with this.
songs that tell both sides of a story are so powerful

literally what i was thinking
one way id describe her music isnt just, a song, or a series of notes, its literally an experience. HAHAHAH THANK YOU LIZZY MCALPINE
We all rate this video highly, really good, awesome
Those Harmonies!!!! THAT ENDING!!! can´t wait for the full album. Amazing.
I'm a metal head, but this is one of the most fabulous pieces of music I have ever heard. I'm addicted to it. It's a masterpiece of pure genius. I just wish the build at the end had another minute so you got the pay off from the stunning layered piece of beauty.
Something I've noticed with Lizzy's music and what sets it apart from similar artists is the compassion within the lyrics and between the lines. Especially these that are collaborated with Ben Kessler. Both sides of a relationship falling apart are so realistically depicted I think I'd be hard pressed not to remember my own experiences. Quick shout out to my fellow reckless drivers; Fellas, never let your love for someone blind you from seeing what's best for them. Hit the fucking breaks once in a while. Behind the lyrics are a series of unwanted reflections, sleepless nights, and bittersweet memories. It takes a whole lot of careful thought to represent both sides with honesty and most importantly, love, even if it is a love lost.
That last scene gave me chills 🤯 this song is truly amazing and I’m so glad to finally hear the full version!! Lizzy never misses 🔥
been listening to this on spotify on repeat for the past week and omg this mv is everything you can really see the different views on the relationship, Ben's is the romantic side and Lizzy's is the toxic side. and the buildup of the bridge is just 🤌 this is a masterpiece
@francescaf5262

i don’t think she’s toxic. sometimes an individual can go through hard stuff and maybe cannot be in the place to be in a relationship. you can try but it can’t always work

hello hi my best friend told me to listen to this (thank god he did) and i just want to say that you've touched a part of my heart i didnt know existed. this is SO. GOOD. the lyrics are beautiful it's like you're telling a story, I LOVE THE LYRICAL DYNAMIC i think that this song is one of those that's perfect to have a feature bc otherwise it wouldn't be complete / whole (ben's part is just *chefs kiss* ) also THE ENDINGGG the way it just abruptly ends out of nowhere is it text painting??? OBSESSED with the mode mixture happening at the end there... the theory nerd in me is eating it up and it is DELICIOUS
I was playing a playlist on speaker, and this was the song that everyone in the room stopped to be present with.
i just realized that the last chorus is DIFFERENT!!!!! idk if it’s fully switched to minor but the last notes of each phrase are lower than they were in the first choruses. lizzy mcalpine is a genius.
loving how all your mvs for five seconds flat have been connected. ur a genius!!!
This hit really hard for me. I have a very similar experience to this and this captured it perfectly.
Her voice is so sweet and soothing. Every bit of this song is beautiful 💕
i am absolutely obsessed with this video. the mixing is perfect, the acting is amazing, and the story is gut wrenching. such a creative way to depict this type of relationship - i connect to it deeply. it deserves so much more love
this is a beautiful work of art and i feel so lucky to be witnessing lizzy grow into such an incredible musician, her songs makes me feel so many feelings ahh 🥺🥺 i can’t wait for the album !! p.s 1:19 is the album cover im pretty sure aahhh

THE FACT THAT EVERY VIDEO IS CONNECTED AND AN ONGOING STORY?? So talented and underrated
What an amazing song and video. When Diego yells "Fuck!" at Lizzy during the crescendo it takes me back 40+ years like I just hit a worm hole and some of the painful relationship things comes screaming back. Music is powerful.
Full body chills whenever the bridge comes in and the song goes from Cmaj to Cm 😭
yall are SINGING I love it! SANG! So simple yet so polished & arranged so well...love it!
Oh my God!!! This is incredible!! The contrasting word play based on perspective, the driving shots, the storyline. 👍👍 Phenomenal ❤️
This whole album is a masterpiece but this song and video is beyond
Loving the "ghost" aspect that continues to appear and how this short film series experience that's being created started w/ "Doomsday", continued w/ "Erase me", then "all my ghosts", and now we're seeing "reckless driving" and still have yet to see the final installment (since I believe I read that 5 songs were chosen to have videos made). LOVEing that the songs are 1000% a story, they've been created and arranged w/ so much intention, and (I feel) are signaling a transition ("death"-- which is where the ghost aspect comes into play), not just of the personal aspects in her life that we'll never know, but of her music that she's sharing w/ us and how she's transitioning from "old Lizzy" into this new era of her music-- new sound, new goals, etc and am LOVING being along for the ride.
I always catch myself holding my breath during the bridge of the song. I don't do it on purpose. I just forget to breathe because my mind is fully involved.
The area in the beginning looks like the place where scenes from Se7en was filmed.
the skeletons and the meaning behind it literally pulled HER WHOLE ALBUM together for me oh my god
this is AMAZING! the imagery is crazy.
Wonderful song writing, arrangement, vocals, and video accompaniment.
My wife and I started something new in our marriage. When one of us has to brake hard, turn too fast, or any little glitch behind the wheel, whoever is riding shotgun starts singing, "I don't love you like that. You're a reckless driver."
Damn. This is amazing. Musically, lyrically and the videos are entrancing. Now I have to listen to Ben Kessler's stuff!
Absolutely loving this addition to the LMACU (Lizzy McAlpine Cinematic Universe)
this album is gonna be a whole plot line omfg WHY R THESE MVS SO GOOD-
i swear me and lizzy must b the same person bc i relate so personally to all her songs 😩
The fact her songs have characters✨
its amazing how excited and thrilled i am whenever u release a song. ur such an amazing artist Lizzy Mcalpine!!! iloveyouuu
This is theee best song of the year!!! OH MY GOD!!! That PEN is CRAZYYYY!!!! Thank YOu!!!
u are the sole reason for my existence as a songwriter. thank u for bringing me back to my music and my voice. I love you so so so much.
Started to feel goosebumps at 2:16 and then it continue until the end. Same reaction to the ending ghaaddd I have to pause the ending to see who was in the middle of the road and it was him who was driving 😨 The story line is freaking awesome! And the bridge hits different! Can't wait for the whole album 🤍🖤
The part where Lizzy says "on the road" at 3:11 is absolutely breathtaking. Argh I cant even explain it.
This is such a lovely song, with the most heartbreaking lyrics 💔
CHILLS. I literally gasped at the end.
I have no words. I don't know how to express my love for every piece she creates.
There's so much great musical storytelling here 😭

omg the storyline with this album is incredible every single song hits different but ties all into the same story i’m screaming

BYE I JUST REALIZED 1:19 IS THE ALBUM COVER OMG
FINALLY 😭😭 we've waited long for this songs release ahhhh im so excited!!!!
this was absolutely incredible!!! the head out of the window looks so cool i can’t get enough of this video :)))))
I've never felt so connected to a song, (specially at the bridge). It's amazing
Not my kind of music, BUT, I had a passenger and her significant other in my car (I drive Lyft on the side) and I asked if there's anything they cared to listen to, being that it was such a long trip. I always play some form of jazz (smooth, cool, or Bossa Nova) because it's neutral music. She asked for Lizzy McAlpine and in my head, I'm like, "who is that?". Needless to say, in that thirty five minute trip...I had to admit that I liked this music, especially this song. Played it a couple of more times when they left the car. It also gives me Duncan Sheik vibes.
so i found this video, then watched it again, shared it, watched your others, then bought tickets to see you in Boston this friday
The way that the music scale of chorus changed during that bridge THAT WAS SO ETHEREAL
I can listen every person I over-loved in my life talking in Lizzy's voice while I keep talking and loving in my atypical way... 'Cause I'm the reckless driver and God, I wish I know how to manage that. I can manage my love on myself, but no, I can't manage the way it overwhelms the other person. I can't.
I love this I love this I love this. The last third of the song has me in a chokehold.
take it back this is too good
YESSSSSS YOU GUYSSSSS THESE CHORDS THESE BACKGROUND VOCALS I-
This is like my 20th time watching this video and it’s still stunning
The best song i have ever heard and I'm not even kidding
This is my favorite song from the album and it's sooooo good the bridge and the ending. I love love love everything about it
ahhh the different perspectives and how you guys view your love so good LIZZY!!! BEN!!!! GUS!!!
I CANT WAIIIIT!!! I’m in the middle of a class but I’ll see it on the break
i am crying!! these lyrics, they hurt (0:32)
i will never recover from this, thank god for that.
Every scene deserves to be framed on a wall brooooooooo😭😭
So good! Those quick shots of the skeleton face, so impactful
I am so obsessed with Lizzy McAlpine
