Did you know that the sound of birds actually makes your brain think you’re safe because birds only chirp when there aren’t predators around? 🥰 you can actually listen to birds when you’re anxious because it is known to help people calm down sometimes.

This is so interesting thank you for making this video and talking so eloquently about it. I knew you had OCD but I always imagined it was something you get therapy for and then effectively live without, so it’s really enlightening to see how it still affects you or has changed over time. Thank you for being so open, I volunteer at an OCD charity and one of the biggest things people face is shame and people who misunderstand it so this video is invaluable :)

Thank you so much for shedding light on this disorder! I was diagnosed with anxiety and OCD when I was 24 and the more you educate yourself about it, the better! I Can totally relate to having to make the bed! I can’t move on with my day if the bed isn’t made and I can’t get into an unmade bed. My bed quilt has vertical stripes and I have to line up a stripe with the edge of the bed or it’s not done right! All the little things you have to do are endearing quirks, that’s what I tell my self. Much love! ❤❤❤

Last year, at the age of 35, intrusive thoughts ruined my life. Out of nowhere they came to me and I didn't understand what was going on. It was so painful and scary as hell. I couldn't sleep, I lost my appetite, couldn't focus as the thoughts wouldn't end, lost like 12 pounds. It felt like I was on a bad trip and it wasn't stopping. I've only had one bad trip from pot so it felt similar, only this lasted months, almost a year. Through researching online I found out it's called intrusive thoughts. I still don't know what triggered it, I just remember I had one horrible intrusive thought and it freaked me out and from then on all other thoughts happened. I even went to the doctor cuz it was so odd. We did a hormone test and found my DHEA levels were super high. So my hormones were jacked. At this point in my life I don't have them as bad. Now that I know what they are and I've been through hell and back, I know those moments will pass so I don't let it try to scare me anymore. It's hard though. I'm not sure I want to admit I have OCD as I never had this my entire life, it just popped up out of nowhere. Some part of me thinks it was either me getting covid or the vaccine itself. I used have such rosy, innocent, rainbow thoughts - I miss my old self. In talking with my parents about intrusive thoughts they mentioned probably everyone has them, they have them, they just know how to let it go. 🤷🏼‍♀ I think it's great you're talking about it. When I was researching it, not many people talked about it which made me sad. I feel like recently it's becoming more known though. I understand why it can be difficult to talk about though because the thoughts can be so devastating.

@@frogswule Yes, I was seeing a therapist at the time. I'm not sure he was much of help. I kept telling him that I'm pretty sure it's intrusive thoughts, but he never would agree or felt my thoughts were an issue. I'm much better now. They come every so often now, but once I acknowledge it, and keep moving or busy they fade. I haven't read her book yet, I'll look into it. thanks

I have ocd and mine is mostly symmetry. But I also have ADHD so I'm constantly at war with myself over messiness. Ive mostly beaten my ocd but I still have a few "rituals" I HAVE to do daily. I touch walls. Both hands at the door frame. The shoes have to be paired for me as well but the right one must be a liiiittle bit more forward. I can mask most of my rituals, but around the people in my life I don't have to.

Rose, making your bed is actually a thing- a good one! There is a book called Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life and Maybe the World written by a Navy Seal. The book has sold over 1.5 million copies. Doing it gets you set for the day, increases productivity and making good habits etc., so good job! I should also add that I get that it’s not a good thing if it’s a problem- but from my perspective- being a total slob who doesn’t make her bed- it would be a good thing for me.

Thank you for pointing out that when OCD causes cleaning compulsions it’s a response to anxiety about germs! Not wanting organization in general! I have long Covid and have literally caused flare ups and ER trips because I’m disabled but the fear of germs after I got sick has me wanting to scrub EVERYTHING. The clutter drives me NUTS cause stuff could be hiding in all that clutter. Stuff meaning germs. My OCD compulsions had such a huge shift after I got sick. I wasn’t expecting it.

Is it obsessive compulsive disorder or obsessive compulsive personality disorder. I'm quite confused about the two.

OCD is characterized by the anxiety. Anxiety controls the behavior and fear of more anxiety. Also have intrusive thoughts and fear of embarrassment. While OCPD usually aren’t aware of their behaviors and their perfectionism stems from the need to be perfect and get stuck on details. OCD tries to fit in, not stand out and is controlled by anxiety vs OCPD who like to be in control sometimes demanding perfection from themselves and those around them. I hope that helps.

@@traumaducks Ah cheers. Although the behaviours can be similar like obsessive cleaning and controlled behaviour the root causes are different and the thought patterns and behaviour of the person overall and over time is very different.
