Great honest update. Had a 2 door TDI conversion long before LR even offered turbo diesels. This was a Peugeot 2.3 TDI engine if I remember correctly. Left lots of space in the engine bay to spanner when needed! Did OK up to 60mph but literally did run out of steam. Flat out was 70mph at which time our ears were bleeding. But would tow at 60mph all day which was the max tow speed back in the day - though not on any uphill of course. Ironically mine did have aircon as standard from new. It was an in-vogue limited edition model. But given the pathetic bhp engine output never seriously used it. Getting nostalgic watching your content. Can't wait for more of the same👍

Great update, we've got pretty much the same setup, though my 200TDI came from a later Range Rover. I've done the same belts, and the upper tailgate gas struts so far. Compared to stuff like Clio 182s and Focus STs, they're such a pleasure to work on. No skinned knuckles trying to get to stupidly placed components! I totally agree about the totally different type of enjoyment you get from driving it compared to sporty cars. The ultimate compliment for a car to me is "I could make a profit selling it, but I don't want to". I nearly bought a green one, I'm very glad I ended up with a Trocadero Red one, but the white is stunning. It's probably the colour I like most on them. I absolutely agree about the Rostyle wheels, I'm hoping to pick a set up for mine (currently running 3 spokes) so I can run a set of quieter summer road tyres and a set of chunkier AT tyres.

@@thedownshiftchannel it's a weird thing, you'd think going from 0-60 in 5ish seconds to 15ish would be a massive disappointment, but particularly on long drives it's just such a joy to drive. @@thedownshiftchannel the spots are a massive improvement compared to the embedded ones you get in the lower air dam as stock. I don't know about you, but I think they look a lot better without the massive bit of plastic under the bumper. I haven't got any spots on mine, and I love the look without them. I might regret that when it's foggy though! I reckon you've got a good balance of utility and aesthetic. The white covers definitely help with the looks.

I still have 2 in my collection 1 two door two owners me being the second on a J plate 1971 me thinks and a 4 door with the best engine ever in my humble opinion well for the R/Rover brand "classic" that is VM TURBO GREAT POWER GREAT SPEED BETTER THAN ANY TDI !!! Only down side a bit revy so if under 2K revs would not pull a wheelbarow but over the 2K look out I pulled an Ifor Williams trailer which came in at rough gues 1.ton with a 5 ton tractor and I can honestly say it went as if nothing was there Well not true but it would have exceeded the motorway speed limit if I had wished to do so Never ever will I have a bad word said against both the car and the V.M. engine The 4 door still used as we speak never ever let me down and at around the 30/35 M.P.G. what more could anyone want ?? These cars even today are a great buy and very very capable if you want to tow or work the thing but to cap it all they might even make you a few bob if you look after them ??
