I bred, raised and rescued Newfies for 15 yrs. Bhaaloo is a nice male. He has a great head piece. He is still a pup at 2 yrs. old. I would love to hug him... they are the best huggers. Thank you for sharing him with all of us and telling us about the breed. People are always amazed when they see a Newfie walking down the street.I use to love the looks on their faces. My Faith lived for 14.5 yrs, she was a Landseer. Faith was the most gentle, loving and loyal creature I have every known. We miss her terribly each and every day.

Tormented Soul thank you so much! They sure are an amazing breed and wow over 14yrso that’s amazing! We’re always praying for long (healthy) lives for our dogs. It is so funny like you say to see people’s faces and looks, especially currently in Texas they’re not a common breed so it’s always a lot of questions to follow lol but of course he loves the attention 🤣

Absolutely beautiful! We had a Newfie when I was a little girl and his name was Lonesome and he was the best, most loyal dog. I still remember the day he passed away and all these many years later, I’ve never forgotten him. If I had a big yard, it would be a Newfie all the way for me. ❤️

Dont leash pull, Newfs will rebel. talk alot, they love that, tone of voice and always the same. They relate to you and need boundries. Love jumps are BEAUTIFUL, but they should be controlled with the "hands down" , NEVER open arms, they will jump!! roll over is WONDERFUL, let them do it. They are welcoming you. Groom them, with combing, they want it, NEED it as it removes dead skin, and old hair, in non molting times or not (its not a question of them getting used to it, they NEED it" Plus grooming is a shower for them. like for us humans NEVER leave a NEWF alone. They are team animals and need you and the rest of the team. DONT take a NEWF if you want them as a yard , or garden dog.

Great video! Very informative and true to life. Newfies are slobber factories and a lot of what you have about care and potential health issues is spot on. We've had 4 of these loving dogs and would not trade those times with them for anything. Still have two running around home and living the good life. Nice that you brought up the shaving thing as that's a fairly regularly question I get when out with them in public during the summer.

I have never had a dog like a Newfie. I spend 12 hours a day interacting with a Newf. BUT, I am totally in love..These are amazing dogs..I talk to her, I have long conversations when she gets stubborn.I have long conversations all the time.. At first I felt stupid.... then I understood its normal.. I have looked after Rotties, Alsations, Bulldogs, savaged and mistreated dogs, Guard dogs, Spaniels, Labs, Retrievers, Dachs, poodles, and the rest. BUT, A NEWF IS SPECIAL... and needs you...and you will find that is the a most best payback in the world..THEY ARE AMAZING

I have two Newfie/Lab mixed dogs, both 3yrs old. The male is 130lbs and female is 115 lbs. It’s a great mix. Calmer than labs and less grooming than newfies, but they shed like crazy. They basically look like short haired newfies/giant labs. They are beautiful and amazing dogs, and yes they are definitely a lot of work. Big dogs with big personalities. My life completely revolves around them, but they are totally worth it. They just want to be a part of your life. They want to be with you, wherever you are, and whatever you are doing, they want to be there.....so it’s not the dog for you if you are going to just leave them at home all the time. They are also messy, so you have to be prepared to clean them and clean up after them. Aside from the shedding, they drool, they leave big muddy paw prints, and if you don’t give them enough exercise they can get destructive. I had to learn their limits and learn how to understand what they want. They actually communicate with you and my male is quite mouthy. Newfoundlands or Newfie mixes are definitely my breed of choice going forward.

Thanks for the video! Very informative. We got a Newfie a week ago. She is 10 weeks old and gorgeous, but she already is really strong. In 5 days at home with us, she learnt a lot, she is beginning to listen to us and to be ok in the leash, getting better everyday. But it is challenging, like all puppies, but with this size more. She is constantly drinking and peeing, drinking and peeing, outside if we are fast or inside, she cries and cries at night...nights are a party in my house now...but she is the sweetest kindest girl ever. Love her to bits! She tries to please, as you say, but still stubborn. The only problem I see with her in the future is her strength. My hands are not well, I have Arthritis, but we are committed to train and train her as much as we need to prevent pulling and jumping and all that. We are already doing it and she is doing fantastic,! Such a smart little bear. I can not stop to look at her face. She is so beautiful, and so good. Thank you so much for your video, it is helping a lot new owners like me. Thank you!

Lots of walking and some free runs helped keep him healthy. He wasn't a big eater. He loved Tamales but but not dog food so much so I mixed Costco chicken with his food. Just great loving friends , but lots of hair and slobs, they are full time.. I had to block the TV so he couldn't knock it over.

Sorry Ruby, That's incorrect. The proper way to pronounce Newfoundland is, "Newf~in~land". Say it fairly quickly and make it rhyme exactly with "understand" and you'll have it right. I'm from Newfoundland and I can assure you, that's how it's spoken by people here. Definitely, no "Fin" , "Lind" or "Lund" sound.

13:11 🐾 I have unfolding stairs (brand Petloader) that are sturdy but are supported by the tailgate. Although I can get them in place quickly, it is still time consuming when compared to just lifting the dog. The dogs tend to see ramps as leaning walls so they take to stairs a bit better. If the dog is spazzing out it difficult to set stairs in place whilst controlling them. It's much easier if you puppy train dogs like this to take to floating stairs and walkways. I watched a 90+ pound rottweiler (with more of a doberman build) that was instantly in the back of my SUV, without any prompting or difficulty, but most dogs at that weight threshold aren't high jumpers. I wonder if jumping-up could be trained into those molosser breeds or if they are just too physically inept; age, weight, and injury would be of concern. I have watched really old dogs that have surprised me with their physicality. *_FUN FACT:_*_ People who have never hurt their back while lifting will assume that they are immune until they aren't. Strengthening your stomach wall will help protect you from hernias and back trouble._ 😁

Audrey Elizabeth sounds like a newf would suit your lifestyle. they don’t need too much exercise as they’re a big breed and it’s not good for their joints, 1-2 decent walks a day. id try and sort out with your work if you could come home half way through the day at lunch time or something just to check on the dog and let him out or get a friend/family to check on him. you’ll need to get him professionally groomed sometimes unless you have the facilites to do that yourself. regular brushing to prevent his long coat from getting matted and he needs a good diet.

"Most difficult to keep" I'm not sure about that. We've had Old English Sheepdogs and Great Danes and are looking at a Newfie for our next dog. In terms of grooming, I think the OES takes the prize for difficulty but, for me, it was a good bonding time. Our Dane drooled like a champ. I think we're prepared.

I have had 5 Newfs. The last 3 the house breaking took one night and a day. The breeder was 5 to 6 hour drive. I would have a good size crate for the puppy in the back seat. Kept the radio low or off while driving so I could talk to and hear the puppy. As soon as the puppy started whining I would stop at a rest area and let the puppy out lots of praise and some play. At home 🏡, now night bring in the crate , one last bathroom break. Sleep, next to the crate with hand in the crate as much as possible. Any whining get up go side. Morning and that pay close attention to needing to be taken out. Puppy is now house broken.

Older people can have them, they don't require a ton of exercise and like with any very large dog you train them not to pull when they are young. The biggest issue is the heat, they do not like heat and it isn't good for them. I live in Canada so of course, they fit in perfectly here and are not a rare breed where we live.

Hi Ari (and the rest of our audience!) I am in the research phase and would like to ask a few questions: - You stressed diet a few times. How much and how often do you feed Bhaaloo? What is the best food you would recommend? - You also stressed exercise. We do not have a large yard, but we are only a few miles from a very nice (and very large) beach. Question: Can a Newfie go into the ocean and if they can, will they require a bath after to remove anything that may irritate their skin?

  • @ari.alvarez-tostado

    @ari.alvarez-tostado

    Жыл бұрын

Diet: I would definitely talk to your vet and breeder about this I am no expert, we are currently feeding purina pro plan large breed. As for how much and how Ofer it really depends, as puppies it’s 3 times a day as adults it can be twice a day or one (in our case. Amount really depends on each dog. They can settle between 5-8 cups a day of dry food. Again check with vet. - exercise is needed for newfs, good walks at their pace never over doing it - as fast as swimming in the ocean I personally would definitely recommend rinsing them very well to get sand and salt water off. Not sure if they would need a full bath but definitely a thorough rinse/brush/dry

I have a second video on training giant breed dogs and u talk about the jumping. As far as chewing. We tried to have his toys around so he didn’t feel the need to chew shoes. For a time we couldn’t leave anything laying around. Hi Ari, Thank you for trying to solicit the proper pronunciation of Newfoundland from your viewers. From watching the dozens of clips on this site featuring the Dog, it's clear hardly anyone has it right, but your the only one who seems to care. So, here goes; Uttered correctly, it should sound like "Newf~in~land". Say it rapidly and make it rhyme with "understand". It's easy. There should be no "Fin" or "Lund" sound at all. On a related matter: Many, many people also refer to their dog as a Newfie. I'm from Newfoundland and my wife and I had a big beautiful male like yours. The thing is, in Newfoundland the vast majority of the natives dislike the nickname Newfie. The ones that use it themselves are usually the uneducated, slack-jawed type. Many other Canadians will use the word in a hurtful way to put us down. The reasons for this are complicated but if you ever visit Newfoundland you can ask anyone to explain it. Just think if Pakistan had a national dog and its name was similarly shortened. I don't think KZread would let you post a video using that. Thanks again for caring.

The definitely do not do well in hot summer. Mine always went and hid in the coolest part of the basement when it was hot. (Hot means over 80F). They need another dog to play with unless you can devote 3-4 hours a day to burning them out.

I love your attempts but you miss the point, these dogs are really difficult, if you start from scratch with a Newf, you seriously wont understand what you have in your hand. I have looked after Rotties, Alsations, Dobs , Labs, Retrievers etc. Newfs are not he same. They are not an easy dog. They are a way of life, they are almost human. I spend 6 hours a week on combing. They matt, they feel uncomfortable. They need cool climates, they need water. They need to swim. But they are the best dogs in the world. They bond with humans. BUT what you say is the sales of a Newf. Dont do that. They need special care.

Kathie Emerick hi!! Omg so exciting! So it’s a congenital heart desease (I believe it’s a form of aortic stenosis) that is passed down to puppies, and may cause serious issues as they get older. Your breeder should do a heart test at around 8 weeks old (or so not sure) and he should give you the results. This is one of the main congenital issues Newfies have and I would definitely ask him for the results. It’s usually a vet certificate and he should give it to you or at least show it when you pick up you puppy, even if there are no family members with it or any family history it is one of those things you have to check for in the breed, just like genetic hip and back problems 🤗 hope this helps!

thanks for the tip definitely going to keep it in mind, unfortunately I do have to share with you that in the U.S Newfie is the most used term for the breed and you hear it a lot, and it's never meant in any disrespectful manner it's just how the breed is known. just as a heads up so you don't think we're using the term to be rude or something. thanks again for the tip

@@ari.alvarez-tostado I wouldn't worry to much about the term Newfie, as I'm born and raised on the island I'm very proud. It's all in the context of which it's being use that makes it offensive. As for the pronunciation of Newfoundland is as follows, New-fin-land and say in fast as we all talk fast. Other then that great videos and beautiful animal

Me da mucho gusto saber que te sirve. So sorry they're not right for you, but it's such a responsible move to accept when a breed is not right for us. Maybe in the future :)

Biscuit89 yep so do we, we’re not from here. Also that’s why we always keep them in the cool AC and never risk a heat stroke

This is one of the problems I have with social media. It's a place where there are no crying babies. Only happy, smiling, clean babies that say cute things. Same goes for dogs. No one wants to show their dog chewing on their 1987 World Series baseball broken from its protective case. Nor the drool or dragging their butt across the living room floor. I have seen grooming videos, bringing my puppy home videos, training tutorials, introducing my pup to our cat videos, but never a day in the life of being a pet parent to a Newf. SOMEBODY (hint, hint) needs to make a video showing the real raw footage of what it means to live with this giant breed. You would be doing a public service bc for every cute puppy pic you have posted or cute IG story told there is some idiot who has done zero research on the breed and just goes out any buys one. Just like the geniuses that buy Dalmatians every time Disney releases a reboot of 101 Dalmatians.

I totally agree, this is why even though my channels are not “dog channels” I’ve wanted to share more about the breed. Also why I never share breeder info because it requires a lot of research and if I do get any questions I’m brutally honest about how they’re not for everyone. If you’re newer to my channels I do share in my Instagram stories all the messy parts the drool on my shoes and in other videos I actually do show footage of his drool on my pillow and walls. Again I believe this is an amazing breed but not easy at times 🤗 thanks for your comment if you stick around here or my Instagram you’ll see more of the daily shenanigans

Sorry Hun average 8/10. If you can get them to 10 you've done well if you get to 12 you've done amazingly well.... But beware to have your heart ripped out when they die... We lost our boy one month ago... It's been hell.....

Simon Price sorry to hear that. We’ve had luck with out breeders most of their elders are averaging 10-12 but for most cases 10 is about the max. Our dog’s grandad is pushing 13! Of course he’s slower lol

Enjoyed your video very much. We just lost our 3rd Newfie (Abby) in May 2023 from Stage 4 Kidney Failure. She was 10 1/2 years old. The one before her (Breeanna) lived until 11 1/2 years old and the one before her (Kellsey) lived until 5 years old. Kellsey passed because of meds that were not monitored correctly by the Vet we used at that time. We are in our mid 60's and still deciding whether or not to get one last Newfie. Here is one of 2 videos I did for Abby after she passed (it is my other YT channel) kzread.info/dash/bejne/aq2a3KiLoNbWp6Q.htmlsi=P2EUpHDA1wnmWshP
