I really liked your video. Like you said it’s hard to find information on live walls. I thought you were going to have fish on the bottom and have it cycle. The wall would act as a giant bio filter. I have seen this video so many times w/ the hopes I finally move to a Home that I can have a great living wall build , & It is a great build ....especially because you cared to make a great tutorial which is the best way for me to learn it, so this must be as easy a request I have ever tried for 🤔 So how about a new Episode ? #2 could be anything but my request is an RO unit or a Rainbow fish community tank. w/ a DIY sump filter and have the whole system heavily planted with a living wall above the Nature Aquarium ? Savage video. Great design. I would've thought that your lighting placement would yield unbalanced growth. The plants at the top would receive very strong vs the ones on the bottom getting very weak energy. If you had to do it over again, what would you do different? Any update pics??

Marc Kennedy The track lights have adjusters so I can change the angle by about 20 degrees or so. I did do some adjusting to the angle of light since posting the video. The bottom rows seem to get enough light. The top definitely gets more, though. If I had to do it again, I would consider installing fans behind the pouches. Some green walls have ventilation system to circulate the clean air. i.e. an active air exchanger. I got some updated pics and I’ll post them to my website once it’s finished. Great job!! Question for you: now that you had it running for a while, do you have any moisture accumulation in your room? Is the room its self quite humid?

I don't have any issues with humidity. But after I soak the wall with water I do feel the relative humidity in the room increase. This room (and the floor in general) is open concept so that helps with breathability.

Victoria Degand I threaded an irrigation hose from the tap to the top pouch row. The line goes through each pouch.

Thanks! I am planning on recording a new video to chronicle the updates I made. Yes the plants are thriving. But I did switch out to a different planting system. Lots of pruning. Lots of propagating and replanting. I turn over the soil about once a year or as the soil becomes barren.

I'm in the process of a similar build above my aquarium, not recessed into the wall, I have bolted 2x4 to the wall and was going mount the felt pockets on waterproofed marine ply. However now I think I'm going to build a frame and use the 2x4 to space away from the wall, how is it holding up is there anything you would do differently? Thanks Barry

I think building it off the wall would be best. I have it hanging from a metal bar essentially. I wanted it off the wall for air flow.Do anything differently...hmmm..I still don't know if I got the lighting placement right. I get light all over the wall but I might have moved it back another foot if I could. Live and learn!

Thanks for sharing! Great ideas! Did you put red guard on or under the mantle where your irrigation line is crossing from the right to the left side of the fireplace/entertainment center and make that portion of the line easily accessibility? It seems like that’s still a potential point of failure and would want to be able to check it for maintenance (especially with the TV at risk).

The water line is sealed as it goes through the wall. I haven’t had any issues. But lately I have been manually watering it with a wand attached to the tap. I find it’s a better way to water the plants than the drip line.

How have you been applying fertiliser? Would be interested if your spraying them or applying slow release to soil

I opted to use the spray bottle. Then I can spray the plants that look like they need nutrients only.

Great video. I noticed you're using the spaghetti irrigation. What sort of pump are you using? and where's your water reservoir? Have you head to add nutrients yet and if so, what brand? Are you using a bubbler in your reservoir? And how are you keeping your PH alkaline? Thanks mate for the great video. You are a true inventive MAKER, keep up that good good... work

No pump. No reservoir. I add off the shelf liquid plant food occasionally. I mostly monitor the plant health by looking at the plants themselves. If you get the right soil, it gives long lasting plant nutrients. I do monitor the soil and change it when needed.

Imperial Magazine There isn’t very much soil. About 1.5 cups per pouch. I used regular topsoil. I don’t fill the pouches with soil. Moss would work but I was going for a leafy look! I do love moss walls, though. :)

Hi Niall, we do on occasion get aphids. There is an indoor plant spray for aphids and we use that as needed. The best prevention is assessing new plants before you pot them. They are usually the culprits :)

Jeremy Young I honestly never thought of that. I am sure that would’ve worked. I treated it like a shower, so I was looking at traditional residential waterproofing systems like schluter kerdi and/or red guard.

What kind of pump and timer system are you using? Do you use a filter?

No pump. No filter. It's plumbed with water and drains through the house's waste system.

Any issues with humidity in the house? Mold growth under sofas etc.?

I don't understand why you wouldn't use a hydroponic or aeroponic system if you are putting so much into the building from scratch. I'm assuming you are using nutrients in the water so that's why most people use a pump system. Not only does it save a lot of money but it puts less stress on both your grey water system as well as being more Eco conscious. Why would you choose NOT to use a pump system? I was most worried about the pump failing and causing a leak in my house. I don't add any nutrients to the water. I do add, on occasion, liquid plant food directly to the soil. But it's straight tap water. Plants get enough of their nutrients from the soil. I will agree that recirculating water is more eco-conscious from waste water perspective, but pumps introduce electrical demands and I was looking for the simplest system. Appreciate your comments!

Roark Arnett my parents tv’s are up high too because fire place and mantles. One of theirs is like 4 feet higher than what you have. It’s not the worst, but I prefer level with the couch eye sight, but you have a fireplace so it changes things a little bit.

Patrick Riley I completely understand. I prefer slightly above eye level but the fire code dictates the height of the mantel, which in turn affects the tv height. Fortunately, this is not my main tv, so it’s perfect to watch from a barstool in my kitchen. Tell you what, you’re invited back for the game :)

Thanks, Pavel! I used mostly tropical plants that don't bloom in the traditional sense. I used silver bay and golden pathos. These keep a consistent green colour. I then accented the wall with different plants that flower. The wall pops in those areas.

It does not recirculate. Each wall drains into the sewer. Below each wall, in the bins, there is a shower drain assembly with a drain, p-trap, etc. They are like bathtubs.

Great video! But I really wish you would do a voice-over remake video because from all the DIY videos, this is probably the one with the worst audio.
