Caroline Reese Nelson had what for many amounts to a dream gig. By 2013 she had released two country-folk solo albums, "Indian River" in 2010 and "Slow Code" in 2013, and was a working, touring musician. But she quickly started feeling burned out from the traveling lifestyle, so Caroline left Philadelphia and moved to Townsend, Montana, four years ago.
What started out as a short summer getaway turned into a full-blown lifestyle change when Caroline acquired four Icelandic sheep off Facebook Marketplace and slowly started building her own ranch. She now has around 50 sheep.
Caroline sat down with Bustle to give a glimpse into her jam-packed lifestyle and share what it has really been like to start a sheep farm.
Caroline’s goal is to build a sustainable, regenerative grazing operation, prioritizing native grass and forage. Caroline works in partnership with her husband, and the pair recently launched a direct-to-consumer pasture-raised beef and grass-fed lamb business, shipping to customers nationwide.
“So, of course, ranching is not like a typical job. There's no real start or end to your day,” Caroline tells Bustle. “It's just an endless list of tasks and it makes it hard to leave. So you have to know that this is what you want to do. Sometimes I joke with my husband that that's why I wanted to get the sheep - so that I never could leave because I love it here.”

What a great ranch! If only all ranchers were this mindful about regenerative practices. The very best of luck to Caroline
If you want to keep the house clean having a boot room where you can also change and shower after each days work will do the trick. You keep it seperate from the rest of the house so that you are not carrying into the house your work.
Love following Caroline! She’s our favorite Montana rancher...girls rule!!!!!
Caroline takes such amazing care of her flock and is such a steward of the land - hope she inspires many other ranchers!
I'm inspired by you, you strong woman

If you love animals, that means you have their best interests at heart. Do you Know what happens to them when they die? And, Good Christians don't even believe in reincarnation?
राधे राधे जी,
Is there a job role
Poor Yoko, you will end up being eaten :(

So much work for 17 k views.
Hi pretty girl Why don’t you have hampshires or ramboulete rather that exotics Isn’t the market better Or do you just have an exotic farm and not pastures
I dont understand how she can nurture and cuddle those lambs and then kill them to sell them as meat.

@@xxxcointacionxbt8798 I thought so too at first, and then I realised that it's not as if there is not a demand for meat out there. So atleast there are businesses coming up which are treating the animals properly instead of the way the meat industry tortures animals. At our personal levels we can turn vegetarian and adopt animal friendly practices, but there would always be a huge demand for animal based products. I have been trying to quit for long, but for various reasons, I'm still a meat eater.

Would you rather have the lambs raised on factory farms, or subjects of animal medical experimentation?? C`mon, people: stop being so judgmental. This shepherd is caring and kind, and I'm positive the lambs are dispatched humanely. And NO, I don't buy that she would eat Yoko, contrary to the accusations of someone in the comment section. As Jim Morrison would say, "No one here gets out alive." Everyone and everything WILL DIE. A lamb killed very rapidly for its meat is in a far better position that a woman dying of fourth-stage cervical cancer in her last week of life. (Ask me how I know.)

Whether we ranch and eat their meat or not doesnt change the fact that these animals will die from something either way. If they were out in the wild it would be a much more painful death. Besides, if were going to farm plants, you need animals as well to balance the ecosystem and keep the soil healthy/fertile. Monocrop agriculture that many vegans support is horrible for the environment, including animals.
