Thank you so much for this amazing video… I moved to Okinawa in two months and out of all the houses I’ve seen on that island this one is my favorite and it’s so spacious. Can you please connect me with a realtor for this particular one I love this space.

I can see why you picked this place to live. It's beautiful. I love all the windows and open spaces. And the privacy. Very nice.

Thank you so much! It really is bitter sweet to leave. I think we'll have a hard time finding a place as special as this again.

I also enjoyed the tour! Thank you! I have seen those curtains and air conditioners in other parts of the world. They are pretty great and don't require the giant units outside your house. I look forward to all your travel knitting! Long trips are great for knitting. I also have a new movie for you to review - "A Castle for Christmas" I heard a rumor that Di Gilpin was the advisor to make sure the knitting was straight. Your take would great for the next installment.

Oh, I saw a couple glimpses of knitting in the trailer for that movie. I'll have to go check it out.

It is! My job comes with a housing allowance and so does my husbands, unfortunately that allowance goes straight to the housing company and none goes to us so we had no incentive to get a smaller house, we don't get to keep the money that isn't spent. I admit this was more house then we needed.

those curtains are actually similar to ones the were very popular before you were born! I remember my mother making her own curtains that were designed this way, but plastic hooks were not used, they were made from metal. I think you can still get this in North America (track curtains). This was an interesting tour. What a huge place and seems like a cat paradise! Where will you be moving?

We're headed to Germany! Interesting about the curtains, I've never seen anything like them in the US. This place really is huge, way more then we need. My husband actually did all the house hunting and had moved us in to the house before I arrived in Okinawa. He did such a good job!

We had track curtains like that when I was a kid in the 70s (with the metal hooks). My mother in law still has them. They were very popular for large picture windows. :-)

I got offer as a GS 12 step 1 ($74500) + housing allowance, I wondered with that amount of salary will I be able to live comfortably with the family of 4? Thank you in advance. I’m still thinking about this offer. I don’t know if it’s worth the move. Any advices would mean a lot to me. Thank you.

I'm sorry I'm so late getting to this. I'm not in the GS system but I think you will be comfortable in Okinawa for that price. The housing in Okinawa is over priced, the house you see in my video is thanks to both my husband and I having a housing allowance and the cost of electricity is very high. So keep that in mind when you are house hunting, just because you can afford a bigger house maybe you don't want one because the cost of cooling it will be so expensive. We kept only the air conditioner in the living room and the main bedroom on and our electric was never under $300. But once you get past the housing, the food and groceries are pretty affordable. I like going to the farmers markets and the fish markets when I can. The commissary on Camp Foster is the best option for on base shopping and meats but the produce is expensive. Another tip for housing, if you don't mind a Japanese style house go to one of the agencies that doesn't work with a lot of Americans and you will find much lower cost houses. But a Japanese style house may not come with a an oven, just a range and a tiny fish over. Tatami mats are pretty but they can be expensive to replace, don't let your kids or pets tear them up.

It’s ugly becuz of the cement walls. It looks unfinished by American standards. Thank you for the tour. Very interesting to see the difference in other cultures.

The cement walls are interesting. Most of the houses I viewed while house hunting had this thin old fashioned style wall paper but there has been a trend of houses looking like this one being built. Almost everything here is cement because of the frequent typhoons.
