You did it right. Get good equipment and a rig from the start. I started with a foldable wheelstand, Logitech wheel on my Xbox and a TV. Within 6 months, I switched to PC and not long after that a full rig and Fanatec direct drive wheelbase. Good equipment didn't make me a better racer but it's so much more immersive and fun so I drive/race more often. Enjoy your new setup! Have fun!

Glad to see you finally in a rig :) one glaring issue you should correct is your view. The monitor should be closer, and look like what you see in a real car. What you're using now is like sitting in the back seat, and that really throws off your drifting. Hope that helps!

Larry, you need to adjust your NeckFX setting in the Custom Shaders Patch settings, it allows the drivers view to follow the direction of the steering wheel left to right so you can see out your windows as you drift which makes drifting way easier on Assetto Corsa. Congrats on joining the Sim world, I've been Sim racing for 14 years and I'd luv to get a real life high power car like you someday lol.

I’ve been sim racing for about 2 years. And I recommend a non curved monitor. Most of them are VA panels and they have poor motion clarity. Most VA curved monitors look like Vaseline is applied to the screen. Once you compare you can’t go back. It’s hard to even mark braking points when driving. These panels are a no go. An IPS panel with Ultra low motion Blur and backlight strobing has great clarity for sim racing/drifting and is the obvious choice for a gaming peripheral. They are also very affordable. They don’t come curved. Once you try it you won’t go back Larry Chen. Curved OLED monitors are also great to game on. Great clarity. Most expensive option. I’d try the low response IPS panel first. Try the UFO test on multiple monitors and you will see how absolutely crappy curved VA panels are.

For motion there is no catch because the 4 actuators would be plug and play on a current rig and take up a little more space except you need to have clearance around the whole rig. The “catch” is on traction control and surge because you would need to buy separate 8020 rails that are not part of the price which could get costly for the rig to attach below it so it can slide left and right.

19:02 - in drifting I'd say you could...maybe? drift with that amount of torque...but only if you turned damping up to maximum. If you turned off damping it would be murderous. I run 8nm(15nm soon) and with natural damping down to 25% and a grippy, high horsepower drift car my hands go numb after not that long. Drifting is so different from racing in that respect because the adjustements back and forth across the steering range are constant and large. So the wheel is being jerked huge distances in tiny amounts of time and your hands have to let it feed through and catch it over and over again, all the time. Whereas in racing you're making gradual, small turning movements over longer periods of time, and unless you're driving very badly and constantly spinning out you won't have to keep trying to catch the wheel as it spins wildly from one end of the steering range to another. This is why lots of torque for FFB doesn't seem necessary for sim drifting, and is probably even a hindrance beyond a certain point. It's a hindrance even at 8nm for me sometimes, when the wheel is self centred with such strength that it over rotates itself just due to the torque pulling it back to the centre, and makes the car wobble when it's coming out of a transition. You can actually see the effects of the FFB torque on the body of the car in-game, which really shouldn't be the case. And oscillation is just an issue that never quite seems to go away either, which is where the higher the resolution of your force feedback the more likely it is to fall in a feedback loop making the car wobble out of control when driving in a straight line. That happens on those rare occasions where I try and drive powerful cars in a straight line. I tried driving a 919 on Le Mans in Gran Turismo 7 and on the straights it was just a constant fight with the wheel, genuinely unpleasant. So tl;dr: more torque is not always necessary, especially in sim drifting. It's the one thing the manufacturers can just keep upping quite easily and can put nice stats on their boxes bragging about it, but what's more important is how well the wheel is representing what's happening in the game and transmitting it to your hands. And more torque in drifting can actually make it harder to feel that.

A sim setup like this is fairly entry level and will still save money even for drifting. The CSL DD has reliability issues and will cost more in the long run. I wouldn't say it's an easy choice. Personally I'm on a Simagic wheelbase and found the controller tuning to be insufficient, so really you'd need to spend even more to have usable performance.

A bit much to sim a virtual car racing game IMO. But, Larry’s worked hard for this so I hope he enjoys it!

Doing it wrong guys. The wheel base strength should be 100. And lower strength in game. So you feel details

For drifting, we turned down the NM output to 10nm instead of 23nm. We kept the FFB at 100 and turned down in car in game. You still get the same details needed.

They're both a gain and perform exactly the same function. It doesn't matter because the output curve doesn't change, at least not when we're talking about purely a gain function. It would matter for something like RBR that uses something closer to gamma and not a linear gain function.

@@hawkeyesdriftgarage9147 PS will start to plateau somewhere around 5Nm in these roadcars, so I'd probably clip it even more tbh. Of course the real solution is to apply parametrized power steering to the car.

haha are you sweating from simracing xD maybe it's something you must learn how to relax when driving, like skiing beginners get very worn out before they learn how to relax when they ride.
