    Me, from the crowded suburbs of Amsterdam in Holland, was on vacation in the States and amazed by all the space u guys got overthere! I travelled for 4 months on the western side of America, but the state that made the greatest impression was Utah. The natural beauty, the climate, the people and ofcourse the good ol' American spirit. If I ever move to the states, it will be overthere by you guys!

    I like your video and perspective! Only the alarm each first monday of the month at noon is mainly for other treaths. If there would be a fire for instance at place where toxics came free. They are only used (very) locally. The risk of flood is actually very low, an area like Amsterdam is protected against a 1 in 10.000 year weather/flood event.

    This summarised the Dutch and Dutch-speaking Belgium's pretty good. You are blessed to be in Breda at carnaval. It originated from 'feasting at the last days' before fasting until Easter. As you described, the "Dutch way" and the "Flemish way" have a blend in Brabant and Limburg I think, don't you? Actually the monthly sirens on the first Monday at noon are just a check if working properly. They are for a general meant alarm: go inside, turn on the radio and hear instructions.

    The Air alarm is from the Second World War in time of air raids. Then it meant to be used in case of a nuclear attack during the Cold War. After 1989 it remained in service for disaster warning. In earlier century church bells were rung in case of floods.

    It's funny to hear how you saw the Netherlands! I never knew that the weather was that bad 😂 About carnival, we don't just celebrate it in Brabant and limburg, but also in Groningen the villages/city's near Germany celebrate it too. Overall I liked your ending too! The pronunciation is really good for someone who's been in the Netherlands for such a short time!

    Herring is fermented, not really raw. We love it. We love drop/licorice also. It’s often raining in the coastal regions. The southern and eastern parts are much much dryer. Carnaval is from Friday to Wednesday. The southern catholic part of the Netherlands is quite different and much more like the Flemish way of live. The province of Limburg, where every village has its own dialect.

  • @Dutch3DMaster

    Honestly though, when there is bad weather like excess amounts of rain the eastern and southern parts tend to have it bad...I've rarely seen small pieces of streets getting flooded like I see on the news during those downpours.

  • @palantir135

    @palantir135

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Dutch3DMaster due to climate change the weather has become more extreme and therefore rain showers and thunderstorms are heavier but also shorter. In average, the eastern and southern parts of the Netherlands have a shortage of rain, temperatures in summer have become much higher which leads to more evaporation and therefore the groundwater levels are far below ‘normal’. The western parts get much more rain because they are near the coast.

    The wind really is (almost) always against you. As long as windspeed is below your biking speed: you will bike against the wind. For example: you have 8 km/h wind in your back, and you bike 12 km/h, you still 'feel' 4 km/h wind against you. Only if the wind is faster as your bike, AND (more or less) from the back, will you actually feel a back-wind. In all other cases: you will feel a head-wind.
