    Will u update your Portsmouth, Va pros & cons? There's soooo much more to the city than Old Towne. Churchland, Midtown, there's a casino there now, you didn't even mention that there are homes in Old Towne that are museums you can tour, the Naval shipyard, historic homes in Parkview, City Park (which has a golf course) etc. So so much more you could've added to your video!

    Fascinating ! I was born at the naval hospital. Dad was navy. We lived in the Oakdale Farms area of Norfolk, the moved out to then new subdivision off Indian River in Chesapeake. Later, after several years elsewhere, I moved back to Norfolk and lived near the beach in East Ocean View. It was sort of slummy then but affordable although high $$$ now. I liked the beach a lot. I get back for visits a few times a year and see the pros/cons of each city. VB is great but so much sprawl, and Chesapeake is good but getting overdeveloped. Traffic is terrible most places. But I like the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail and the beach and Sandbridge so get there often . I have a couple friends who live in Portsmouth and hate the city due to crime, high taxes, and especially the corruption in city government. BTW.. I grew up when the first tunnel was built between Norfolk-Portsmouth and there were just ferries. There were tolls on the tunnels .40 cents each way.. until 1976. The 2 lane HRBT had a$1.25 toll. I remember the car ferries that ran out of Little Creek to the Eastern Shore. The CBBT opened in April 1964 and the parallel tresses in 1999. My other memories of Portsmouth were 1318 Spratley St. That’s where Pat Robertson started Chsnnel 27 that eventually grew into his CBN empire in VB. I worked audio and film room there in the mid 60’s when I was in high school. Lots of stories about that. It was before the larger building ( now abandoned)was build over the original brick building. That bier garden sounds wonderful! Since I get back for visits a few times a year, I’d be thrilled to meet you there and buy you a few 🍺🍺🍺sometime and I can tell you more about my experiences growing up there. Every place I go in Hampton Roads is part of my life story. Would love to have a few 🍺🍺with you sometime later this spring or summer!

    As fair an assessment of my hometown as anybody could ask for, I think. However, you seemed to mention High Street as running through Olde Towne. Not really. London Street is the main corridor street for that neighborhood. Its parallel neighbor, High Street, is the actual main avenue that runs through the middle of downtown (which made up the original squares of Portsmouth when it was founded in 1752) and continues into Churchland. These are nit-picky points, of course. Part of the historic financial problems of Portsmouth lies in the fact that it has been landlocked by surrounding cities and counties for a very long time, so it could not grow in the way its neighbors Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Suffolk were able to. It has no room for major industries. Also, a fair bit of Portsmouth property is owned by the federal government (no surprise there). It is a city that deserves better, but was always seen as the runt of the Hampton Roads litter.

  • @samsansalone

    @samsansalone

    George, I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback. And thanks for the encouragement! You make a very good point about London Blvd and High St. I primarily noted High St because to me it feels like the most frequently traveled road with most restaurants/Commodore, etc. Also great point about the growth in Portsmouth. Being landlocked has seemed to influence it, like you said. Though all of that to say that I really love the city and have so many wonderful memories here so I'll always have a soft spot for it.

So as a real estate agent there are topics that I can't directly address legally, though I can do whatever I can to direct to places that provide statistics. I'm still exploring ways to best convey messages in a respectful way and so I try to paint a balanced picture in a way that brings as much understanding about each area as I can. Hopefully by watching the videos it might encourage people to also to additional research into those specific details if a specific area is interesting. Thanks for your kind words also, and thanks for the questions as they're extremely valid!

    @@2xhollow191 Makes sense! Gotta find a balance with commute times, also - especially with your wife being up at Langley. Some people like being in the west Chesapeake (around Western Branch) area because it's not too far from either of those places. Whenever you'd like send me an email assemblingdreams@gmail.com if you have any specific questions I can answer that take more detail than what is doable here.

    90% of Portsmouth is garbage. I was born & raised there. Taxes are way higher there. If you move there, Manor, Churchland are a few of the nicer areas if you want less crime, a bigger yard, & less noise. Stay away from Cradock, anywhere downtown is bad....even Old Town. Old town is crowded & has no where to park.

    There is no Portsmouth, and definitely no Ports-Mouth. There are two acceptable pronunciations and no other. 1) Porch-smith 2) Pos-muff

    ‘Pros and Cons’ is how people in America say Whites and Blacks when evaluating the livability of any city, no more no less.
