Winter snow-rated tires make a huge difference for the E! I've got a 2009 Ellie with Open Range A/T tires. For staying warm in the Ellie when sleeping and beyond, I hear the Coleman sports cat or the Mr. Buddy little are solid too! :)

Just got my Element in Aug so it’s my first CO winter with it. I’m used to a 4WD truck. E seems to do better in loose snow than on ice/hard pack. There’s a bit of slip before the rear wheels kick in. You seem to be doing fine driving in snow for your first time. Take it easy and have fun.

I don't normally camp in the snow in Oregon but that might change now that I have an Element with a powerstation and an electric blanket. I have, however driven in snow constantly here (I also have a 2005 Wrangler with studless snow tires on it). HAVE to carry chains full-stop regardless. Don't risk it. You'll get turned back sometimes by road-crews at the worst possible time. Obviously, in Oregon, go to tripcheck and look at the cams. One of the most important things is to see what you're about to drive into on the passes. Plan to go slow. Speed and bravado is 100% what will get you messed up in the snow. Just let the holes pass you and listen to your favorite podcast just chilling. I've seen SO many SUVs in the ditches or flipped over on their tops that passed me a few miles ago. Many drivers think they can purchase safety when that's complete BS. Also, you obviously know this, but steer into sliding and not away from it. And, just occasionally test to see what you're driving on and how your tires are handling it. Tap the brakes sometimes and see what happens (at slow speeds). Adjust speed accordingly.

Leave your windshield wipers up overnight so they don’t freeze. Get a scraper and never poor hot water on the windshield, but you may already know that. I too am a California gal but have family in Washington state.

You said, ‘I don’t know how to drive in the snow’, well, good tires help, and very carefully 👍 once you experience a skid or slide, so to speak, you experience how dangerous it can be. Nighttime will be the worse because there is likely more ice. Just take it easy! The snow is beautiful. I remember the drive along the way there where you can look out and be above the clouds. Oregon is beautiful. Once you were out of the snow, the contrast, but be careful still of black ice. Stay warm, enjoy 🌟

I’m originally from Kentucky where we get lots of snow, but after 27 years I ran away to Texas to escape the winters. I don’t miss it. But it’s super cute bringing my Yexas boyfriend home with me and seeing how excited he is over the thing i hate most ❄️. Now that I’m gone i can appreciate it so long as I don’t have to drive in it. My best advice is to get a heated blanket. They even make ones for your car. And to BE CAREFUL. You can’t always see the dangerous patches on the road. Black ice is invisible. Safe travels - an 08 root beer SC 💖
