But you realize that perhaps from a native perspect he is trumpeting all of your feelings but I can tell you that standing in front of those mountains and saying don't do this... is the best way to get EXACTLY those people come there. 1. Wearing cowboy-style clothing... its not that they are trying to fool anyone, they WANT to dress this way. They are already stupid they just like the idea. Telling them not to do something 10 min after telling them there are no laws isn't going tohave the desired hat. Telling someone from a major city to be neighborly is what you think it is... being what you would conider rude in a major city, is something they are doing instead off being neighborly, that is how they socialize. So tell them to be neighborly doesnt come with some understand of what you mean by that... 3. Don't drive like you do in the city.... again, they arent doing something that they would not rather do... it is largely because they are bored and unused to lack of traffic. 4. Telling people that they can hunt, they can ride RVs and 4-wheelers is part of the reason they want to live there. What you are up against is the mutal respect that others share in the area. They have NO relationship to the land and NO relationship to this frame of thinking. YELLOWSTONE is the bane of your existence. This is a very successful advertisement of your state. Again don't look at it from your perspective, you have to look at it from their perspective, which means it would be better for someone NOT from Montana to talk about it rather than someone FROM Montana. You simply cannot image how to relate to someone that is not from your world. All of this being said, the cat is out of the bag, all you can do is damage control, prepare yourselves and your state for the steady increase in people, in crime and in people that don't share your mutual respect for what you have always known. I mean this in the best intentions because this whole video will just and advertisement for doing everything you said not to do. You'd do better by demonstrating what it takes to make a life in the rural parts rather than just saying dont move out on the front range.

#1) As a Texan, I like to think the Montana is what Texas used to be and what I hope Texas becomes again. #2) This is an argument my wife and I have had for a while. I want to move further from town than she does. The irony is that she almost never leaves the house and hates towns. #3) As a Texan, I have to tell you that we can't drive. Not in Montana and not in Texas. It's a disease. Seriously. #4) Please provide me a list of what I can complain about. I like to complain. #5) I'm from Texas. I already own a cowboy hat. Haven't ridden a horse in 30 years, though. TBH, the hat was bequeathed to me by my uncle. I've never worn it. Probably never will. But, I'm a Texan and I have a cowboy hat. Thanks for the video, I did enjoy it! Right now I'm in talks for a job in MT. I do like the "what not to do" concept. Every area has a different culture and different things tick them off. If I get the job, I'd rather not make my new neighbors mad at me in the first 24 hours!

The US has some of the strictest immigration processes so people will have no choice but to come illegally, and when they do, they have less legal rights, meaning companies can more easily abuse them. Nothing wrong with illegals, everything wrong with the government and the rich.

My wife and I just stayed in Kalispell last week, the whole state of Montana is gorgeous. We both noticed how friendly every single person was during our whole stay that week. Montana is truly a different world, in the best way possible.

Ive been watching a lot of your videos lately, and subscribed to your channel. You give practical, useful and valuable advice. I’m a native Californian and could not stand my state back in 1980. Long story short, I’ve lived in Michigan, Washington, Nevada, and now Idaho. What you say is spot on, as I’ve seen most of that stuff here, too. Leave your attitude where you cross your old state line. Really enjoy watching your videos. I will definitely look you guys up when we have had enough of the Panhandle. God bless you in your endeavors.

We wave, say hi, help each other out when help is needed. Actually, I imagine that Montana, and this part of California are very similar. From the kind of people to the wide open spaces and mountains. Logging and ranching are our biggest industries here. Not quite the vastness y'all have up there, but it's big country in anybody's eyes.

As a California expat who moved to Columbia Falls, I can attest that everything in this video is true. Don’t bring California or anywhere else here with you. This a great place to live if you like freedom and wide open spaces, and don’t mind driving 20 minutes to the closest store. If you don’t LOVE cold weather, or you freak out when you see a gun on someone’s hip ... stay away or you’ll make yourself and everyone around you miserable. For those of use who love it, we want to keep it this way. Montana is “the last best place”.

Amen to that! If you move anywhere respect the people who have lived there for generations- in any state SC too.

Don’t Drive fast? Come on people in Montana have drove like a bat out of hell since the automobile was invented. Heck I remember the highways that didn’t have a speed limits during the day in a state the rhymes with Montana. Wish people from other places learned how to properly use the passing lane. It is not a cruising lane. Totally agree about not changing Montana, I would go a step further and say that should go for anyplace you move to. If your leaving anyplace and moving to a new place, enjoy the culture that is there, and learn to adapt, after all you moved there.

Born and raised in Montana, moved to the south to take care of my aging father. Married had kids but moved back to Montana to care for my mother. Then back south to be closer to my husband's family. Now we are probably going to move back to Montana so I can be closer to my sister and Grandpa who are my only family(besides my kiddos) left on my moms side. I miss it so much. We had 9 acres, horses, pigs, etc. Raised on a farm. You don't know how much you miss it until you aren't living it anymore.

Great video, all very valid and important points. It's all common sense but unfortunately there's a lot of folks who don't have any which makes things harder on the locals. I've seen the same happen to Charleston, SC. We have tons of transplants here which is fine... until they try to change everything and make it like it is "up North" or "in the city". You'd think some of these folks would realize the South is different than NYC or Jersey but they never do. I hope Montana stays wild and locals can maintain their high quality of life regardless of the transplants.

Only one thing though about the hat, I I bought one in Wyoming and another in Utah when I visited and I intend on wearing then in MY of I always wear them in the winter back home in Jersey during the winter months. Montana is so beautiful, I've wanted to move somewhere like that since I was 7. I'm from N.J., but before I got hurt I would spend most of my time in parks, mountains, anywhere naturalistic, we love it. My lady and I want out sooo bad, I know we'd fit, we're generous, helpful, and can't wait to get put of NJ. You've done a nice job of describing it, thanks sir!

I lived in Flemington and Branchburg for about 5 years with my x girlfriend and hated every second....I'm back in NY now and this past November I was out in Montana and lived it. Allllll freedom and no worries. Hope you get out there soon.....

Great video. Have to agree with it all. That said though, I'm not a native Montanan. Moved here 6 years ago (younger brother has been here for 30 years now) from the east coast. I lived most of my life in rural PA and VA. Hunted the mountains and practically lived on the Susquehanna River (family owns 2 islands there). I do complain about the folks moving here because they do what you suggested not to do - change things. I became a Montana guy the minute I moved here and lived in a off-grid log cabin on the edge of the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, miles from town, for 2 years. Would still be there if not for a witch of a landlady (originally from California. 'Nuff said.). If it weren't for my Pennsylvania Dutch (Deitsch) drawl, folks wouldn't know that I'm not from here. And yeah, I DO wear a cowboy hat. I've worn western wear hats, boots and clothes since my late teens (67 currently) and have ridden many horses, though it's been years since I've been on one. One thing that I do do though, I have a lead right foot. Always have. And my ol' '95 Ford truck with the 460 under the hood gets cranky if I don't let it run. But I am courteous on the roads and ALWAYS pay attention to what's ahead of me, behind me, beside the roads, and am aware of road conditions. I never tailgate and only pass when it's safe to do so. And I always give a 2-finger howdy from the wheel. :) I love Montana and the folks here. Let's keep it just like it is.

I live on the Oregon Coast. I love what you are doing here!!! I am third generation in my town. My kids are fourth.... I pray that Montana doesn’t become anything like Oregon has. The natural beauty is still here, but the politics and cities are now identical to California... Really sad to see.

Hug that coast in Oregon and avoid northwestern Oregon, Salam-Portland area. That Oregon coast is a heaven in itself, like Montana is its own piece of paradise.

I argue that a state or any place is primarily about the people that live there any giving time rather than an ideal.... because CHANGE HAPPENS EVERYWHERE. So if you empty a place like MT, CO or NY of the people that live there and fill it with people from a different place.. any of those places will change. Just ask the native Americans, today none of these places look like what their ancestors had. Anyways, City people will make it more dense and diverse, the mountains will still look beautiful but the roads thru them will be more packed, prices for land will steadly increase, this will increase the cost of living and result in dynamics similar to more populated places. The only way to keep a place like MT the way he stated it, is to not attract people to live there in the first place.... but then I say, Thanks Yellowstone.

We live in Northern Michigan. The first thing new property owners do that are from the city is they put NO TRESPASSING signs on every dam tree along the road. It’s not necessary people. It’s just not necessary. By the way, it looks like hell, if you didn’t know that.

Good morning. First of all, a fantastic video. I love Montana. I used to live there, from 2004 to 2007. I always tell people that those documentaries, movies, pictures, just doesn't do it justice. They HAVE to come and experience it first han We, meaning my wife and I ARE planning to move to Montana, to around the Missoula, the near future. We were attending a private school that taught farming. We are no longer studying there because of being disrespected by the instructors and some of the class. Farming is what we really want to do. So, Linda, my wife, was talking to a friend ours, about the circumstance, and she made mention that she has some property near Missoula, around the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. I don't know when, but as soon as she talks to her family, we will be moving to that property. I used to live Montana, back around 2004 to 2007 and I LOVED it, especially the winter. I can't get enough of it. Where we live now, in Kansas, we may get some snow, but not like there in Montana. The property I mentioned is only 3 acres, but that will be big enough , FOR NOW, to begin our "careers", in farming. WE CAN'T WAIT. Maybe you could do a video or some videos about farming/ranching in Montana and about some of the agriculture and about some of the farms and ranches. Again, these are fantastic videos. Thank you.

Big parcels of Plum Creek land get sold a bit further south of Kalispell. One of my favorite spots for a cow elk tag drawn was sold a few years ago. 160 acres of No Trespassing signs. I did meet the guy at the post office so maybe he needs a friend? Even the smaller parcels at the head of a drainage gets posted very time they sell. One really cool guy from Texas closed a 100 year old road that was a nice little cruise off the freeway. I have only been here working and raised a family since 1982, but my kids were born here. I do have a western style hat and it compliments my mustache rather well according to my wife and everyone...

First thing, most important, stay where your are!

What if we want to live on a place with trees but still a commutable distance from the airfield. Im an airline mechanic and so the amount of places that would have mutch need for me is fairy limited.

The only fence I would need is .5 acre behind the house for my dogs. I was raised in the country, with horses & my first job was at a diary. How country can you get? My family had me working at 6 years old.

I wish you the best of luck with the influx of new residents. We have been fighting that here in NH for years. We moved to the lakes region to get away from the problems of the city. We are being overrun by people from Massachusetts, New York, etc. That all moved here permanently when the pandemic hit. The town we live in has changed so much in the last 5-6 years and is just going to get worse. People moving here are bringing their problems with them.

I was in Missoula this past November and I was very impressed with the people....thats what I liked about the area the most. I was there for only a week and I wished I grew up there. Even when I was walking by people on the street I got the feeling that they got their shit in order and are actually happy about life. And yes....I been thinking of relocating.......at some point...if I do I'll definitely respect all of it...and I'm sure I'll learn a little more kindness from these folks. I love this video. I grew up in the mountains of Colorado at 8,000 FT elevation. So, many times people paid mounds of money for property in the mountains only to last barely a winter. They romanticize in their minds what it will be like usually some Hollywood'esk movie delusion. Yes, I wear a cowboy hat regularly because there is a purpose to wearing a cowboy hat and it ain't to sell houses. Hint: It has to do with weather and job function!

I would love to live in Montana. I currently live in northern Wisconsin. I would prefer to live out in the sticks, but realize I would need to properly prepare for the winter season. I love doing wilderness photography and just walk the woods. However, I would need to realize the wildlife might be a bit more aggressive farther north. I hear what you say about speeders. During the tourist season we get people from all over the country and think they are back home doing, like you said, 90mph. Up in northern Wisconsin we need to watch for deer ALL the time, but already during the early part of the 2021 season I've seen dead deer all over the place. If my neighbors are willing to show me certain skills to make it in Montana you will find me a willing student. I am not into culture or having to always go out someplace. I've already done a lot of overseas traveling-I'm done with that. If they are talking a major snow storm then I will travel the 50 or so miles into a town for supplies, and get enough to get me through for 3-4 weeks before I can get out to the roads again. Hey, if you respect my property you'll have no issues with me. You'll find me out late at night doing my night photography. I've seen a lot of photos/videos with fancy houses out that way. Me, a good three bedroom mobile will do just fine. Just my 2-cents.

I’m from New Jersey but also spent many weekends in the country of Pennsylvania, I would so move to Montana n disobey the cowboy hat rule but I’d abide by the speeding n being friendly rules haha

Mall stores seem to be disappearing these days, even in Missoula

Don't try to change the city you're moving to into the city you're from. if you loved it so much just stay where you're at.

I've lived in Connecticut most of my life and am currently living in Thailand. Moving back within a year or so. One thing that draws me to Montana is the freedom. With all this nonsense going on Montana seems like the perfect place just to go about your business. I agree on moving way out in the middle of nowhere though, I'd try to find a happy medium.

Bozeman is that happy medium... Thereare no large cities and Bozeman is that city... And you can then go buy that Cowboy hat that you are going to buy anyways. Welcome to 'MERICA!

I don't so much mind people wearing cowboy hats, but when they wear spurs around town while shopping is where I draw the line. 🤨 LOL!

The elk may not feel like a winner more like a mutually assured destruction conscript.

Would now be nice to know some unique things in Montana. Indian reservations & law enforcement, Dude ranches that actually teach you something useful, horse riding associations, volcanism, big foot, UFO's, employment, survival schools, trapping, camping, car survival gear, mechanics of a ranch & overhead costs, etc

All that land, perfect place for a compound

Even though I have never been to States, I have fantasized about Montana for over 2 decades now, give or take. I feel everything that you just mentioned in this video as it is now becoming a global issue. The metropolitan life is now beginning to get to affect people and their health so people all over the world are now moving away from these densely populated areas in search of a quiet and peaceful life. The only problem is, they don't want to leave their lifestyles or conveniences behind. I hate it when people try to turn the place they just moved to exactly into the place they left behind. I am with you, you move to Montana or anywhere else in the world for that matter, you respect their culture and the locals. You don't like how they live and how they go about their daily lives, you are welcome to go back to where you came from. When in rome, do what romans do or keep your mouth shut if you can't participate!

Instantly became one of my favorite videos. Just made me think of the first time I visited MT. I was down in Polson beside Flathead Lake when a boat filled with what I'm assuming was a bunch of tourists zoomed by and one guy waved at me and when I waved back he flipped me the bird. 🤷‍♂️

I’m looking at moving to Montana from Australia. I just love it.

I was good with all your reasons except "don't fence your property", If i buy 40 acres i would not expect to see anyone on my property riding ATV's or shooting guns,etc. I have to go with the old saying, "Fences make good neighbors"

We see too many areas that are bought up by people who immediately put up a big fence, gates, and No trespassing signs on every tree. It's a bad look and most people have enough sense to not come on your property without asking. If someone wants to trespass, they will climb a fence. I should have been more clear on what I meant in the video.

@@LivinginMontana1 Yes i agree it's not a friendly or attractive look when someone post multiple No Trespassing signs. I'm hoping to move to Wyoming so next door neighbor, but fencing in 40 acres is certainly not in my budget, lol.

Why are you complaining about cowboy hats, I have problem with trying to change Montana to what they they just left. Oh, and I am 67 years old born and raised here.

My wife and I love your vids. ... and I trashed my cowboy hat based on your suggestion.
