    Hi everyone, thanks for tuning in! One important thing to also keep in mind is that a lot of people speak Spanish in Miami!! If you don't speak Spanish and are thinking of relocating there, you might want to learn some beforehand! A very well made video I can relate to. I had a similar experience moving from the Northeast to Los Angeles. I had a good job. It was a beautiful place and I had an amazing experience. But I ended up eventually coming back, and family was a big reason. I'm sure you'll do well wherever you're called to be. Keep the faith brother!

    Very well-put video! Spot-on about living in Miami. I've been living here for most of my life and you've summed it up pretty much. Bad traffic and high cost of living. It's different for me though because I have family and memories here. Miami will always be home to me. I went to FIU. Loved skating on campus, still do. Gawd I love this place I just really wish traffic and cost of living want so darn high.

    Truth things do open and close every year, and salaries are not good if you are working for someone else. I moved down here in 2010, ten years ago and have come and gone 4 times! but I think I will be here a while this time. Miami is a unique place for sure! And hey, shout out to hanging with the Vous Crew on South Pointe Beach! What beach is that at 12:25? Also, have you ever considered living abroad? You can live in Spain and teach english but only for 12-16 hours a week and do whatever else you want the rest of the time. It was my best job ever and maybe something you might be interested in, you seem adventurous. All the best moving back home!

    I was born in Miami and it is not managed well. The government does not take care of the streets. I was shocked how bad Miami Beach looks the sidewalks are all cracked the rubbish and garbage on the streets and businesses shut down, too much construction. The mayor or whoever is running this place has failed and that is sad. People are rude in Miami and lazy. There are little jobs here that is why most locals leave and immigrants come in. It is beautiful the beach but, there is much more work to improve on. It needs help.. it is called corruption. Maybe if some white people ran the place it would be better managed.

    The unemployment system also is a failure there is no job security here why people leave. There are many wealthy people here who buy their third home and celebrities. I mean the only good job is in real estate but there are 1000's of realtors and they are not professional. It is overpriced and doesnt match the quality of life.

    Thanks Jon. Interesting perspective from a young person. My wife and I will be relocating to Florida from Denver, but will be doing the remote work option. Still not sold on the Miami, Ft. Lauderdale area. Considering Fort Myers area as well. Mostly the draw is being close to the water to do some sailing.

  • @jonferris

    @jonferris

    Hi Doug, Miami and Fort Lauderdale are very busy areas compared to southwest Florida. Some prefer the slower pace of southwest Florida and others enjoy the hustle and bustle of Miami. Miami is expensive and the cost of living there went up after COVID hit. You'll definitely find cheaper options in Fort Myers! Regardless of which coast of Florida you live on, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to do some sailing and you'll still be able to enjoy the Florida sunshine. Let me know if you have any questions!

    The lack of regulation there is a shame. Until you live in Miami, you will not understand the need for rules and regulation. My friend (Yamamato) who had her whole life ahead of her moved down here to practice medicine. Some guy slammed into her on 95. Gave her a permanent back injury that effected her life majorly. Here's the actual kicker though: during the accident and waiting for medical help, the guy who hit her just stared at her blankly and couldn't answer any of her questions. Turns out, her didn't speak any English at all, was driving with out a license, and some how got found out that he wasn't over here in any legal way even short term. Authorities had the hardest time with this accident because they had no clue who this guy was, why he was here, and why he was driving considering the circumstances. It was ridiculous and it injured this young women who simply wanted to practice her craft and did everything by the books. People might act like that's hate on immigration. It really isn't. It's hate on doing whatever the fuck you want without considering other people or at least breaking the rules in a cautious way. but....that honestly...is just another day in the 305. Anyone that lives there, knows that that is just another day in Miami.

    The problem is there are barely any highway enforcement in FL. I've rarely been pulled over, and funny thing if u have a nice car you NEVER get pulled over. There are no speed ticket quotas like other states so that's why there are so many horrible drivers. Also why car insurance is crazy high. It's also a no fault state meaning insurance can say one driver is 70% at fault but the other is 30% at fault. Many drivers don't carry insurance since it's so high so very important to have full coverage insurance. And most importantly try to be a defensive driver. Everyone here rides ur bumper so u have to be extra extra careful and keep ur distance and brake early to give the car behind you time. Sorry to hear about your friend.

    @@Always1Ambitious Very true. My dad and I just road tripped last week from Pittsburgh to Miami because he won the bid on a classic car on ebay and as soon as we hit Daytona, I was like, "Dad, you can literally drive as fat as you want down to Miami. From here on south, no one give a crap." I was joking of course, but we were in fear for our rental car as we had multiple drivers almost rear end us. Although we were speeding at times to get around others, we still weren't going 90 in a 75 and that made people so upset. Crazy...

    Warning: long post lol. I loved this-it hit home. I had a similarish experience. I left the freezing midwest and went to grad school down there. I fell in love with everything and everyone. Back in 2011 it wasnt as crazy expensive as it is now. I had to leave because I could not find a job and Im in healthcare. I remember I couldnt even get a retail job while I was in school which I thought was strange. Now looking back and being in my 30s, I understand. I speak little Spanish so thats def a barrier. Also, I didnt realize the competition is insane. It just didnt seem like it at the time because Miami is small compared to Chicago. Anyway, I was soooooo sad that I had to move away. Ive been to 15 US states and many cities and nothing compares to the MIA. I miss is soooo much but like you pointed out-u can have it all but without family, without a true sense of community and being as overpriced as it is its not all that its cracked up 2 be. Thank you for such a beautiful video that brought back sooo many great memories for me. & thank you for being so transparent, honest, & raw in your video. Truly enjoyed watching this. Subscribed ✅

    Bro, so true. Miami is beautiful, but the people ruin it. It is the biggest culture clash I have ever seen. It's is not a chill place at all. The culture is very very hot headed (coked up?), very angry, and very very egotistical. People will total their car that they have their life savings invested into just to prove a point and not let you in the lane.

    Hope your move back to the Northeast was for good reasons like family ? You helping your family perhaps? I know how cold and blustery it can be there in the Northeast. I'm a native New Yorker born in the Bronx. But back in the early 80s? I also lived up in the Boston area. So I know how that damp cold weather can be. So since you said Miami is looking to build a lot of businesses ? What would you say about and older guy wanting to make like a cool jazz speakeasy place with cool pictures of like Lucky Lucciano or Capone as well as some celebrity pix like Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro etc and some kind of cigar and alcohol bar. And of course some really great jazz music including the greats like Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra as well as some really great Italian jazz based jazz like Bossa Nova and acid jazz? Just a thought. Thanks for sharing your experience and best of luck to yous back home in New England. Ciao.

    Ciao Vince. Thanks for your comment and for tuning in! That is cool that you're a native New Yorker. I moved back to New England to be closer to my family as family is very important to me. So I can't speak on behalf of a speakeasy however, your idea of a jazz lounge sounds very interesting. Miami is an expensive place but it does attract a lot of people who enjoy various dance clubs, bars, lounges, etc. If someone had an idea to open an establishment that stands out from the rest, I would say go for it (especially if you had a good business plan, startup capital, correct licenses, etc.). Good luck to you too and have a great day!

  • @jonferris

    @jonferris

    Thanks for tuning in Allan! If you are living in either downtown or miami beach and you live relatively close to work (i.e. 15 min. walk or less) you should be fine walking or riding a bike, etc.. You can always take an uber/lyft to work or the airport however, IMO, it is safer and easier to get around in a car in miami than walking or riding a bike. If you live outside of the city and are living more south or west in miami-dade county and have to make long commutes daily, then your best bet would be to get a car. You'll be spending quite a lot on uber/lyft and if you are daring enough to commute on bike then you will be dealing with the weather (very humid from may to november and rains a lot in the summer), little to no bike lanes, and of course..crazy drivers. I hope this helps!

    Dandre Jones Hi, it will definitely help to have a decent job setup prior to moving to Miami as it may take several weeks to find work there and rent can be very expensive for one person. If you know someone there, it could help if you stay with them until you get settled in with work/school/apartment/etc. Be prepared for a lot of traffic and try not to live somewhere so far west as it can take a long time to commute across the county to enjoy the beaches, downtown, etc. It will also help if you learn Spanish (not sure if you already speak Spanish). It’s a very lively place and there’s a lot to do there. Good luck Dandre!

    If ur young and don't have a good job lined up move to Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood first. You can drive to Miami in 30-45 min and save a ton of money. If you live in Miami the best areas are Brickell or Miami Beach but ull prob have to live in more adorable areas which aren't as nice. Get a roommate to split costs. Have a savings built up first. Don't go out every night so u don't blow all ur money in the first few months. Pace yourself. If u need extra money be humble and do Uber, etc. Great side job to make extra income. The experience you have of Miami deff is reliant on your income unfortunately.

    Hi Darlene. You can but I would not recommend it. It would be easier to live, for example, in Brickell without a car than a larger suburban area like Kendall where supermarkets, shopping, and restaurants may be farther from your dwelling. Also, if you live more south in Miami-Dade County, you will have to travel further to get to downtown and Miami Beach.. Uber/Lyft costs do add up so its definitely something to think about.. Thanks for tuning in!

    Darlene De Leon- Yes you can live temporarily in Miami without a car, but not for long, unless you want to use Uber and public transportation for the rest of your life otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it for the long haul. Just like you can live without food and water short term, eventually your body is going to collapse. Same thing applies with transportation in Miami. In the winter its not so bad, any other time of the year its going to be brutal. Do you know what its like to wait for a Bus in the middle of summer in a hot and humid climate, with temperatures above 90+ degree ? Believe me its not something I want to wish on anybody.
