Hope your daughter feels better and gets to her graduation... Wishing you and your family a good weekend
You’re being a good dad…family first. Hope she gets feeling better and doesn’t miss her graduation.
I am a pharmacist working in Windsor, Ontario Canada for 37 years having moved from Greece at 5 years old. I love the pharmacy system in Greece because the pharmacist can provide more service as opposed to spending most of the time inputting Rx's in the computer and counting the meds before giving them to the patient. In Greece everything is prepackaged (probabaly the same in Venezuela) which removes unecessary time spent in the north american "dispensing" process. It would be nice if Greek pharmacies computer labeled each Rx with patient's name, drug name, directions, doctor, filled date because most of the time, I believe Greek pharmacists just write directions by hand. Having said that, the reason you can only find over the counter drugs like the Ibuprofen you bought in pharmacies and not in grocery stores, periptera or other stores, is because the value of the pharmacy profession is guarded and protected as opposed to letting in corporate entities that will take over and shut down every single independent pharmacy and hence pharmacist. The pharmacists profession is thus protected and pharmacy in Greece remains a profession as opposed to pharmacy in North American (Canada and the US) and I guess UK as well, where the pharmacy is simply a department in a large grocery store or department store and the pharmacist is forced to work 12 to 18 to 24 hours a day (fortunately not the same person). As well, although it may not be a regulated function of pharmacists, in Greece ( probably in Italy, and Spain as well as in Venezuela and other Latin American countries), it makes it very convenient that a patient can go into a pharmacy and purchase a prescription item (not narcotic or controlled drug) that they need to treat their acute condition such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and even get a refill of their chronic meds for heart, diabetes etc. without being forced to see a doctor first. This makes it especially convenient for the millions of tourists who suddenly find themself needing an antibotic for example. Can you imagine the wait at a doctor's office , if thousands and hundreds of thousands of tourists needed to see a Greek doctor before getting treatment for their bronchitis or if they lost their blood pressure meds. If that happened, it would be called Xaous - Chaos! Great video Daniel, perastika to your daughter Melina and congratulations on her graduation. Kai sta anotera.
Amita Rodakino... the first juice i had in Athens in 1992 when i first travelled there as a 17yo from a periptero :-) hoping your daughter can attend her graduation... Καλή δύναμη
I'm from Asheville NC USA 🇺🇸 I went to a pharmacy on the trip to Thessaloniki, the man there was very helpful but didn't speak much English (rightly so since he's Greek!), it was a bit of a challenge but we did OK! I was getting some motion sickness medicine which like you mentioned in the US you could buy that at the convenience store or grocery store. Great video!
Καλή ανάρρωση Μελίνα και καλή αποφοίτηση από το νηπιαγωγείο!
My Birth country is paradise to my soul! I am only gone 2 days and I miss it soo very much!

Hello from Montréal Quebec Canada wishing a smooth περάστηκα to your daughter Daniel ❤️🩹
I really like that you captured your interaction with a random (I guess) lady exchanging "Good morning" to each other. It's so traditional and related to your other video about the social aspect of living here.

🙏🏴 hope your daughter makes it safe and well
very good point, pharmacy hours are another thing to get acclimated to
I recently found out that pharmacies in the old town are always open on Saturdays. Komninos right behind the KTEL bus terminal definitely is, at least. That's where I buy my elderly mother's monthly prescriptions. Great videos, keep up the good job!
Motion is the best!!! So funny how your daughter corrects your Greek. They always humble us adults with their honesty.
All kids love that juice! Περαστικά to your daughter!

In the UK the pharmacist are trained to high standards and the likes of paracetamols can only be bought in certain quantities in supermarketss, also what you can buy in supermarkets is very limited

Pharmacists in Greece also go to uni for 5 years and it's really difficult to get into this major and also graduate. I guess it would help if we could also buy paracetamol in supermarkets, but then again pharmacies and supermarkets are open for the same hours so it doesn't make much of a difference.
Περαστικά να είναι εύχομαι

Every time I go to Greece, I crave 'LOUX' sodas, but their sugar content is atrocious! I'm hoping they start using natural sweeteners like Stevia in some of their lemonades, etc. Love your videos, by the way, and congrats for your daughter's special day! Mine just graduated High School, so we're excited for her!
I hope your daughter feels better and enjoys her graduation 🙂
It's just not right to sell drugs without supervision of a physician or worst case a pharmacist. Even the seemingly least dangerous medicines like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol could cause serious damage if not used properly, not to talk about antibiotics overuse. The system in UK or USA is simply negligent, in Greece at least only pharmacies can do it, but in most European countries you need a doctor. Nice video anyways, kali sinehia.

Glad to see that supermarkets sell food etc but NOT medicines, leave that to the professionals that's why they go to university for 5 years. I hope your daughter feels much better Daniel.
All will be fine and little Melina will go to her first graduation... Besos desde Pireo...
WISH YOU LUCK
nah my husband is an expert when it comes to meds of any type. and if he doesn't know i usually send him the info over on viber lmao. one thing i don't miss from when mine were melina's age is the constant colds they got. even now my younger is almost finished the elementary she got more colds in the last two years than ever before (probably due to the locked downs). i hope she's ok now because it would suck to miss the graduation...
God bless❤

I went into the farmakio here in Syros the other day, and they wanted to know 1) what my paracetamol cost in Australia (about A$0.80 versus 2.40 euros. But yes that is at the super market!). and 2) what a worker earns in Australia (a lot more). We worked out that they earn about A6k per month, versus 772 euro per month for her. So of course she was coming to Afstralia! She has four friends there already. I was surprised how little she was earning. I wonder if Greece should have stayed on the Drachma - that ship has sailed I guess. On another note, I told my brother that ibuprofen can erode your stomach, so I avoid it mostly. He did not know that as his own daughter takes it a lot.

I am a New Zealand guy who moved to Finland, I have a daughter and another one the way, and boy, we had so much struggles with the social aspects of the culture in this country. I have to ask you, what struggles have you had, if any, with raising kids in Greece? Do you experience any issues with bullying, socialisation, warmth and openness, and a culture that is not very child centric. I only want the best for my kids, and feel that I am doing them a disservice towards their development and happiness to be in this country. I wish health and happiness to you and your family.

I hope your daughter is feeling well and attended her graduation. We are living in Germany right now.. we just moved here for my husband's job, and we will be here for 3 to 5 years. We are Americans. Germany is like Greece. You cannot buy 'over the counter' medicine like you can get in America. I saw you got the medicine, but you didn't show if you had to ask for it and how you asked for it if, or if you just grabbed it off the counter? I assume it was just an ibuprofen or acetaminophen?
@alx_gr1
28 күн бұрын
You can't just grab it, you have to ask for it and usually the pharmacist will ask why you need it (and if you actually asked for the right thing) and give you instructions (like how much you should take, when etc).
Daniel, why in Greece there is a pharmacy every 50m? I find it very curious 😊

Hello 👋
Δέκατα is not a thing. Overprotective Greek moms invented that, and nobody can say anything about it. :D
Στο 4:09 έχουν σε προσφορά τους amita motion, σε πακέτο των δυο. Συμφέρει, γιατί είναι και ακριβός χυμός. Ελπίζω να μη σε μάλωσε η σύζυγος.
the good thing in greece is that it is too small to atract the giant multinational companies.
@MyGreekLifestyle Μαρέσει πως σε διορθώνει η μικρή. 😊
