Living in a Subaru: Solo in the Mountains of BC and a Cookout | A typical day living out of my car

I hope this video brings you a sense of calmness. Spend the day with my dog and I as we wake up on a forest service road in British Columbia. A typical morning routine living out of my subaru outback, hiking for majority of the day, then cooking a yummy dinner.

I believe I saw in a previous video that she has a small emergency battery for jumping, which is a great insurance while being out in the middle of nowhere. I personally had dead batteries due to the lights not turning off as they should. In addition, if I go more than a week especially in winter without driving, which is frequent, I unplug the battery. I have no emergency stuff though but live in town.

Were you on your original factory battery? From the research I've done, the factory oem batteries are not great, even mine started leaking early. Look into Optima batteries, they can take a beating, more reliable in extreme conditions

Great video! I've had my Outback for several years now and really love it for soft-roading and camping. The off-road capability has gotten me through some surprisingly difficult situations. I'm a life-long Jeeper, but I needed a vehicle that was good daily driver and could still handle mild to moderate off-roading. Plus, Subaru has been a lot more reliable! I'd recommend a good set of all-terrain tires, which will have improved traction, durability and wet/snow performance. You can get them in the same size as your stock tires, so you don't need to get new wheels. A skid plate which protects the engine and transmission is also a good idea as the stock plate is only plastic. There's a Canadian company called LP Aventure which makes aluminum skid plates for your Subaru, as well as a lot of other cool stuff. Most auto shops could do the installation for you, if you're not so inclined. Also, you should be able to disable the pre-collision avoidance feature of your Outback. Mine is a 2018, but yours should be similar. If you check your Subaru Eyesight manual it shows how to disable this. Left of the steering wheel near the bottom of the dash is a cluster of 6-8 buttons. One button is marked "off" and shows a car about to hit another car. Press and hold this button for 2 secs, you'll hear a beep and and an indicator will show in your instrument console. This feature will remain off until you stop/restart the engine, or press the button again for 2 sec. Oh, and Foresty sent me!

Excellent on gas and quite honestly, very, very capable off road. Give one a look for your next Subu.
