Mean people! Be nicer! You can tell she lost a LOT from the divorce. She made a mistake with the Craigslist person at 45K and the other builder essentially charged her full price of a new tiny to finish everything and they didn't fix the water problem and they should have. Trust me, divorce and loss of lifestyle is not fun as a single parent with kids. I'm glad she is happy. She is making the best of a tough situation. Good Luck!

If choosing to live in a tiny home is a “tough choice “ for some then that’s fair enough but I’ve been homeless before and I don’t want children so I’d be happy to own a tiny home rather than a “normal” home…. It’s like saying “normal” people…

The title is misleading. A $90k loan over 15 years would be $500/mo payment and that's interest-free! It's disingenuous to exclude the loan from her monthly housing/rent payment. If there's no loan repayment plan then the $90k was a gift. I think the negative comments are more directed at the intentional misdirection than the lady who is clearly happy and doing her best.

Jenn's story is truly remarkable and serves as a profound source of inspiration. The sincerity in her voice as she shares her journey through divorce, grappling with the urgent need to establish security for herself and her family, is palpable. What she has accomplished in the face of adversity is nothing short of extraordinary, a testament to her resilience and resourcefulness. From the depths of her experience, Jenn has crafted a beautiful outcome that speaks to the human capacity for growth and transformation.

not a comment about her (tho someone clearly took advantage of her) people with no concept of negotiating, costs, researching, etc have been driving the cost of a built tiny home thru the roof with marketing words to make you swoon.... luxury, high end, etc. anything to make people mentally open their wallet. the focus really needs to be changing regulations to permit tiny homes everywhere foundation homes are permitted. housing is housing!

Awhile ago I saw a tour of your tiny online. Your home is stunning! I live on the Oregon Coast in my tiny house at Tiny Tranquility Park. We rarely get sub-freezing temperatures in the winter, but this winter we've had a handful of nights below freezing, so I swapped out my original unheated hose for a heated one from CAMCO, a 12 ft. long model (they offer other sizes) with water line freeze protection down to -40°F. The hose comes with two ~8-inch long insulating rubber sleeves to slide over each end of the hose. It works great. Wishing you much happiness in your tiny.🥰

What recommendations do you have for the best time to buy? On the one hand, I keep reading and seeing trader earnings of over $500k each week. Pretty incredible result for the money. I'm glad that she mentioned her challenges as well. The first builder she bought the home from disappearing on her, the issues with her water/plumbing which then begs the question, is this something that was not done properly by the second builder, and, before any of that, not being able to get a bank loan thereby needing to rely on a friend for the money. What if this friend did not exist, then what? That's why it's always important to check your finances first as well as check with a lender to see what you'd qualify for before beginning any kind of home purchase. Often these videos make everything seem so rosy and simple. So I'm glad she was honest. Good for her. She turned out to be very resilient but also had a little luck on her side. I wish her well.

Used RVs often have low-resell value so you can get them cheaper. They can be moved around and often have more living space. But people are more negative about RVS. But even places that allow tiny houses don't always allow RVS as they don't fit the 'look' of the community or there is zoning against it.

175k is not expensive. Think for a second before reacting! An average sized house with an equal level of detail, cabinetry, in every corner and on every wall would cost at least $300-400/sqft to build. This house includes the main expensive items: a bathroom, kitchen, and millwork; It's just packed more densely. One can easily imagine spreading all that expensive detail across a 1500sqft home, and still be luxurious.

Look I'm happy for her but a 175,000 dollars you can build a very nice home anywhere for that if you spend $175 on a single-family home in a normal run-of-the-mill neighborhood you could sell it for $300,000 easily I have friends of the family that just built a home on 20 acres in upper Michigan on the Manistee River it's so beautiful it's breathtaking and they'd spent 120 on the entire building cluding the perking the land for septic. And it's a beautiful glass front A-frame log cabin with everything and it's not small by any means. I think 175,000 is absurd. Yes I'm happy for her and if I could meet her I would gladly move in with her she's gorgeous LOL wow I can't believe I let that slip but no 170 $5,000 and then to have a $750 monthly bill on top of it too much

On the other hand.... It becomes a math calculation for many. Pumping money today into a mortgage, with current rates, years of interest payments, and in a single-family housing market mostly in decline, at 51 this lady probably did the right thing for herself. As an 'asset', you're correct, will probably never appreciate. So like a car, that type of home is a 'tool', and that's how it should be seen. There are many other categories of asset investments available that, at this stage in her life, she can indeed explore and choose from. (Words from a Gen-X person.)

Let’s be realistic , even if she owned the land, she would still have to pay property taxes. 🙄🤷🏾‍♀️ So if she is paying for renting the lot, it’s the same equivalent of paying property taxes, which by the way increases , also utilities and property upkeep. No matter what you own, there will always be some type of expense you would need to pay for owning that residence.’ It sounds like Colorado is expensive to own property, so I’m sure the property taxes are also high to pay too. I live in New York (Long Island suburbs) & property taxes can range from $6,000 (school & general taxes) to $20,000 and up depending on the community. As long as you live in this world you will be paying for some type of expenses to survive and make ends meet.

The problem with this sort of idea being viable in a lot of areas with really high housing costs is that these high housing costs are not based on the size of the home so much as the value of the *lot*. For example, the 0.13 acre lot that my house sits on is worth about $600,000 with no house on it at all. At best you could fit two of her homes on my lot with some room for parking so now you'd have two homes on $300,000 lots. That's just not tenable for cheap living. Sure, you could move these small homes out into the outer suburbs and get those values down quite a bit, but now you are just increasing urban sprawl, traffic, etc. Notice how she says she lives "near" Boulder. Don't get me wrong, its a great idea and the mobility of this platform goes a long way towards solving the problem with people buying homes they probably shouldn't because they need economic mobility, but it won't work so well in a lot of places either. At least, not yet.

Folks, I'm aware that this is not Jen's channel so she may not even read this comment especially since it's been quite a few months now but I personally think that she spent way too much money on this tiny home given what she ended up getting in the end but also spends way too much money for rent as well. This is obviously a personal opinion and I'm aware that everybody can have a different opinion so there are potentially not going to be a lot of people that will agree with me or maybe there will be. But, spending $175,000 on a 10 foot wide by 34 foot long home that sits on a trailer frame and some trailer axles like this is just a lot of money. It's a lot. Especially if you consider what you could build for the same amount of money on some land somewhere. Yes, I'm aware that if you were to build this on land somewhere that you would have to spend money on the land and that has obviously increased over the years as everything does and I'm also aware that the cost of the materials involved to build these things has gone up as well. I'm not ignorant to the fact of these things going up in price over the years. I've actually done quite a bit of research on various tiny homes or RV and camper style homes or other homes that are on essentially a flatbed or fifth wheel trailer type of platform. Also, before anybody gets the wrong idea and thinks that I'm just saying that these are on a typical camper platform, just know that I'm aware that these are not built on the same type of platform since these are typically a lot heavier in nature so they require a different type of foundation or trailer platform to begin with. I'm well aware of this so there's no need to comment saying that I don't know what I'm talking about because I have done a lot of research and I'm aware of what goes on with building these things. I have also hauled quite a few different campers and trailers the last few years of my life so I'm familiar with how they are pulled or operate as well. Again, I understand that everything has gone up in price over the years but this price of $175,000 is just astronomical in my opinion. I'm not saying that these small tiny homes should only be $50,000 or $60,000 and that approaching the $70,000 or $80,000 or even $100,000 is completely unreasonable. Again, I understand that the costs of materials has gone up and you obviously have to pay somebody for their time to put it together whether it's an individual that is doing this on their own as a sole proprietor just building these few units a year completely on their own or, if it's a company doing this and having to pay their employees to put these things together and then have a little bit of profit on their own as well. I get that. But a $175,000 price tag is just completely insane in my opinion. Again, I'm aware this is my opinion and others may disagree. The other thing that I think is ridiculous is that she is paying $650 a month for rent and this does not include a place that provides shelter for her and she actually provides that on her own with this tiny home. This is just paying for the space for her to be able to have her tiny home on and get a few utilities included. In my opinion, I think paying for renting a space to have a mobile home or camper or something like a tiny home to sit on has gone insane as well over the years. It used to be that you would spend $10 to $15 per night or maybe $20 per night and it would include utilities as well as electrical and now these various campground sites are charging anywhere from $55 to $120 per night and this DOES NOT INCLUDE the shelter to stay or live in. You are providing your own shelter with your own house so why in the heck are these places charging so much money for renting a space that's just providing space and a little bit of utility usage? I'm a business owner of a few different businesses and have had other ones over the years and I totally understand that businesses are typically in business to make a profit. That's fine. I'm totally aware of that and I'm not against business owners making a profit. But $650 per month and just including some of the utilities and only allowing a space for this home to sit on is quite astronomical in my opinion. I'm not saying it should be $50 a month or $100 a month but maybe a few hundred dollars a month is the range that it should be. Again, just my opinion. Otherwise, if you're going to spend this much money per month then you just as well try and find an apartment to rent and have them provide the shelter for you. Or, get a loan for a home. I'm sure I'm going to get some people that will come and say there's no way that you can get a "decent" home or apartment in Colorado for under $1,000 per month for rent unless it's a complete pile of crap but I guarantee you that there are probably a few apartments or homes around Colorado where she's at that would be less than $1,000 a month or really close to this and they wouldn't be total piles of crap. I understand that you can make the argument that if she was paying rent for an apartment then she wouldn't have anything as far as equity since she has this tiny home and that would be something that she would own eventually so she has value in that. I get that. But, the amount of money is just extremely high in my opinion. If Jen happens to see this comment, she can obviously decide if she wants to respond. I'm aware that she has already spent her money and she got the loan from her friend so my comments probably really don't matter because it's not like she's going to take the home back or try to sell it because she is probably content with the situation that she has. And that's fine. If she is totally happy with whatever the situation is that she is in, then good for her. Obviously it doesn't affect me so my opinion doesn't really matter in that regard. I'm just simply speaking out loud to try to make people think about things as a whole. I understand that if you're an adult then you typically have to live somewhere and paying for a place to live isn't free whether you're paying rent or paying a loan for a mortgage to a bank or whatever. So, I'm aware that you eventually have to pay money to somebody somewhere in order to have a place to live. That's fine. But for what she got, I think $175,000 is just insane. Again, I'm not against these various tiny home manufacturers or builders making a profit and I'm not saying it has to be only $40,000 or $50,000 to build a home like this but $175,000 is a lot. I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of $80,000 to $100,000 is fair. I am also aware that some of the additional or increased costs are because she may have decided that she wanted to have the finishing or fixtures or trim a certain way and this could have added to the cost. I am also aware that she has a 10ft wide home compared to an 8 1/2 foot wide home so this increases the costs as well. This also increases the costs if she needs to have the home moved because it would require oversized permits to be able to move from state to state and you have to plan your route accordingly versus just pulling this down almost any highway, interstate, or other roadway. It's not as simple as it's over eight and a half foot wide which is the typical minimum requirements that doesn't require additional permits. Also, since this home is larger, she would likely have to pay even more money to have somebody transport it if she doesn't have her own vehicle to move it because this would typically require something like a one and a half ton pickup like an F-450 or 4500 or larger or potentially a semi truck to move it or transport it safely. You're not going to want to do this with a 3/4 ton truck and I think even a 1 ton dually truck is potentially not going to be safe enough for this to move without issues.
