I was a huge Living Colour when they first came out. I bought Vivid on cassette when it came out. That was about the end of my 9th grade year. Loved it! As a drummer, I thought Will Calhoun was phenomenal!! I had never heard anything like him or the rest of the band. Then Time's Up came out right before I started the 12th grade. Loved it!! It was a good second album! The summer after high school graduation Biscuits came out which blew my mind! I loved their covers of Talkin Loud But Sayin Nothing, The Burning of the Midnight Lamp, Love and Happiness, and a new song Money Talks. But in '93 when Stain came out, I didn't care anything about it. I think some of it had to do with Muzz Skillings not being on it. But I think that the biggest thing was the fact that I just wasn't into 'em anymore. I was in a college town and had started listening to other bands and other styles of music. I came here to hear this song because I got to see them play it last Thursday night in Nashville!! My first Living Colour concert!! They played this song third and I didn't know it. I bought their latest cd and I'm really digging it. It's a good thing I bought it when I did or I wouldn't have known about 8 songs.

@@drewper73 I had a similar journey with two exceptions, Stain came out the year I graduated HS. At the time, my tastes were all over the place (remember, it was the height of grunge in 1993). I had heard Leave It Alone on MTV and thought it was OK. I was also getting pretty heavy into more industrial bands like KMFDM & Skinny Puppy. Anyhow, bought Stain with pretty low expectations (I saved my receipt in case I needed to exchange it) but something connected with me especially with this track, Nothingness, Bi, Go Away and Auslander. However, after this album... similar to you, I kind of went a different direction musically speaking and sort of forgot about them (didn't help that I lost a majority of my CDs in 1996 but that's a story for another day). I've sadly never seen them live but hopefully will one day. Looking back on this album now, it's more relevant now than it was in 1993. Honestly, not many people understood or got this album (not a bad thing really and most were busy bowing to the grunge gods of the day). It was WAY ahead of its time. If it dropped right now in 2021, it would blow tf up for sure. I'm also a drummer btw. Will Calhoun is still a HUGE influence of mine.

To anyone who may wonder why Living Colour didn’t receive the commercial recognition that was due. A black man from Seattle named Hendrix scared the shit out of the music world with the Band of Gypsys and still sits atop the mountain. After Hendrix there was a void to be filled. Living Colour filled the void and put every rock band on notice that this is “our” music and this is how it is suppose to be played. Agree or disagree . Who’s next?

If it dropped right now in 2021, it would blow tf up for sure. I'm also a drummer btw. Will Calhoun is still a HUGE influence of mine.
That Bass *-*
Always dug Vernon's Yin/Yang Hamer. Comparatively understated visually next to his other more colorful (colourful?) axes, but just chill looking.
GREAT PERFORMANCE ,GREAT MUSICIANS
To anyone who may wonder why Living Colour didn’t receive the commercial recognition that was due. A black man from Seattle named Hendrix scared the shit out of the music world with the Band of Gypsys and still sits atop the mountain. After Hendrix there was a void to be filled. Living Colour filled the void and put every rock band on notice that this is “our” music and this is how it is suppose to be played. Agree or disagree . Who’s next?

1. You're obsessed with race and are a dummy. 2. Gypsies. 3. The end.
underated hard rock band, they should have been on the list of the glam rock/metal bands. 🤟🤘
Uniques in every way....
It makes sense absolutely perfect sense. Yes Jimi had some pedals! Nothing to what's accessible & available today! I'm not diminishing anything from Living Colour..Matter of fact when they first arrived I was right there. Matter of fact Maybe the only brotha from my whereabouts that did....Love the material...In the mid 80's when I listened to them LOUD people said the same thing! I didn't make no sense...All the best! mmj
Long time favorite song and since I've never had the chance to see you guys live, I thank you greatly for posting this :)
Also, this band needs to be in the RRHOF. The fact that they aren't is criminal.
Doug Wimbish.Thank you all.
Love these guys.
Easily in my top 5 Living Colour songs. Been trying to play this on my bass for years. Now i see that I only knew half the bass line to begin with.

Top 1 LC songs.
Needed this right now
I do not listen much to living color but this song I loved it!
u guys never disappoint.
198? whatever, when I first heard these guys and bought every tape available, and cruised the back roads listening to them for who knows how many years, I knew then and there (wherever there was) they might disappear from the radio, but they would definitely NOT go away. I knew then and there I was right. And, I was NOT wrong.
Thanks for taking the time to upload the vids. They're awesome.
Be great to see LC here in Scotland!
This is better than the recored version.

This is how the world breaks down.
Hells to the yess... I likes it baby
"El muro entre nosotros debe caer"
The universal theme. They sing and play the the truth about the masters that would divide and rule us. Few indeed have done it as well.
these guys are killer....All I can say is More.
those who about harmolodics. p.royers c.squire BOZO & r.friphe mentz. i remember osaka club quattro ,tearful ,wahhh!
@SnuserDrew1 It's on "Stain"
Did not know a bass can do that, wow!
the wall between us all must fall
I’m trying my best to reach out to Doug Wimbish. The phenom bass player of Living Colour. I’ve got a drum head that needs your signature to complete the drumhead.
Great. I could hear Kings X do this one.
I admit I had mixed feelings about _Stain_ when it first came out. I loved this one from day one, but some of it took some getting used to.
Wil’s a beast on that bass!
epic :D
Calhoun lml
It's amazing how Hendrix sounded like the bass intro without all the technology!

Don't feel small jus' cuz you hit the Wall...
I met a chick there that night who I ended up marrying three years later. Got her pregnant in the restroom with what was supposed to be a fun, random hookup, and here we are 18 years later.
less effects more actual shredding

Literally singing "This is how our world breaks down"....and the band is creating a very creative and musical way to express that..Had been since the beginning of the song...and you say that. Youre a special kind of fucking stupid.
I also love Living Coulour, but must say, that they would be nothing without having listening to Bad Brains!
