Great interview. Thanks for talking about being called crazy for moving abroad. I’m three weeks away from being a long term multiple year slow traveler after two extended exploratory slow travel trips to SE Asia and all I hear is I’m “crazy, stupid, out of my mind†meanwhile there are armed car jackings every day, extreme violence and crime at all time levels here in the Bay Area. The wife and I will have a base location as we travel the country for 2 years before we pick a place to settle..This is exactly what we would do,perfect.
The other thing I noticed watching this video is it was very quiet in his neighborhood or inside of his apartment. He didn’t hear a lot of roosters are barking dogs. I could live in that place for sure!!! I’m going to have to be very selective once I get there because I cannot stand barking dogs or roosters.

Smart move at 41. Definitely travel all around the Philipinnes and Southeast Asia. Sounds like he has a little Norm in him from Cheers.
It would be nice if you could also have solo women expats in your interviews. I would love to hear about their experience in Asia, which is probably much different than a solo man.

I like this apartment and it's at a great price for those who want to have a "base" location and travel to other places. I also agree with doing the hotel stay for 2 months when one first arrives to check things out and find a more permanent location for a place to live so one doesn't get stuck with living a year in a place they end up not liking.

Best interview I've seen on this subject! Thank you. Nice little pad.
Love this interview, he has had a lot of experience traveling and was able to convey so much info to give to us watching trying to glean what our own personal experience will become.â¤ðŸ˜Š
28:15 I was thinking about this the other day. I’ve been looking at locations with a pool & gym etc. say $40-50 a night. You’re talking about $20 a night hotels. So say $25 for a pool & gym. I wouldn’t pay $25 to go swimming at home! I’d probably pay that at home for swimming and a gym - but I don’t recall ever doing both in one day. Anyway, yet another great interview guys. Your content is top notch!

Great interview, Id love to connect with him and ask some more questions related to moving the PH. I am a few years out but have been there many times and cannot wait to hang my hat there.
Dan, the apartment in this video would not rank up there as a place most expats would live in for any length of time. It might be cheap, but it is a 2 room place (living/kitchen and bedroom) that most people would find depressing. Th reality in Dumaguete is that 22,000 to 25,000 pesos is probably the base rent for a decent furnished place, and even higher in Valencia. Cheers
Joe, retired Navy here (FC/FFG's), looking to travel and have a home base overseas. Appreciate the info.
My husband and I own a house there so we figured our expenses will be under $1000 a month when we move there next year. And we plan to visit other SE Asian countries with the money we will save by moving there. Another interesting content. Thanks, Dan.

Om Joe From Tennessee....Go Vols..
Just look at your income and bank accounts and see how much you had and now how much you have today then subtract what you have today then divide that by however many months you have been in Ph and that will you give you the monthly cost.
Probably the electricity is cheaper in negros? I had air con too and once I paid almost 100$ a month but I had to turn it off often during the day. I was in Cebu province. Anyway as you know it's possible and very nice to live in the Philippines for not so much money at all. I also spent a total of 1200$ a month everything included and that includes for my Filipino wife and we have a kid together. I also spent 560$ all included(food and drinks too) in the past but it was not comfortable at all.
So if you keep your food at about $200 a month (which is reasonable) then with $320 for everything else, don't tell me you can't live there on about $500 a month. I didn't say travel, buzz, and everything else. I said just as a minimum, it can be done.
@KevinVenturePhilippines
11 ай бұрын
Exactly. I have lived on less than $500 a month here in America for decades so I don't know why these people have to spend so much money over there. And I want for nothing. But I also love to cook at home, and I spend.less than $100 a month on food and I need to lose weight! Over there I will spend probably $50 a month on food, and $100 a month rent (they are out there all over) when all is said and done. I will probably be around $300-$350 a month there. Some people just have too much money and try and find ways to waste it.
@kokalti

@@KevinVenturePhilippines Well in America you must have lived in your car or just didn't pay rent. Because even the most ran down shack in America will cost you more then $500 a month just in rent. I live on $2,500 in America. My rent alone is $1450 a month. Food is also very expensive.

@@jackbaldwin3649 I understand. I am just a musician that got close to making it big, but never did. I don't have a pension, etc like most of you. I have rich friends that have always lived high on the hog, but I just always traveled. I finally decided I should buy some land, so I did, just a cheap acre. And decided solar would be better than an electric bill, and it is. Most Americans don't do that. I grew up in Alaska living off the land, etc. So the transition to the Philippines won't be as hard for me. I am happy with little here in New Mexico, and will have more there. I have had many things in my life, but the only thing that ever seemed to really matter was happiness. And it took me far too long to realize, that happiness is the only thing we cannot buy. Because it's not for sale. It's a completely different thing, and level. And one that we must each find for ourselves.
i love the different videos on the Philippines , cost of living is awesome. but the question i got is money. for my entire life been use to US currency.. how does that work once to get there. open a bank account . used credit cards or just bring a lots of cash.....

I live in Cebu with my PH wife; doing great with a budget of 8K for rent, 4K for utilities, 26K for food and living. Then you need to budget for medical, furniture, vehicle, vacations, family tax. You need six months emergency too. Cheaper in providences, but then harder to get the stuff you need. And harder to get your money in a providence. Make sure you have two or three separate bank accounts already set up in the US before you leave. Best to move to the big city first, then jump to a quiet place in a province where you can plan on making trips for supplies. Need lady for communications and living.

@@IB4U2Cme why 2 or 3 separate bank accounts?
Seems like Americans are ok living simple like this renter here, so America should build houses like the Philippine country, thus this will be more affordable for everyone in the states

The place we are staying had a rent increase of 1000 pesos in 3 years. That is a $20 USD increase in 3 years.
