I was one of the guys who just said ev bikes suck. I demod one of these and came back to the dealer smiling. Not too proud to admit it. The live wire is very nicely finished too. It’s a heck of a bike. One of the fastest 0-60 street bikes I’ve ridden.

Props to you for trying it out! Not many people that bash it initially go out and try it. Respect.

I still think that is a fantastic overall 1st offering. I would enjoy one. For me to seriously consider, I would require. 200 ml range...just because, a reasonable wind screen and a pair of lockable/usable bags. Keep creating H-D a/k/a Livewire.

Looks like a fun bike! I do want to try one out sometime. Your point about charge time vs refueling is a great point. You don't always have time to stop and eat a burger for 30 mins when gas takes a minute. The range could be better but a harley forty eight has a 2 gallon tank and a range of about 100 miles too!

Just passed 1400 miles. My range is up near 125 miles. Wind screen and less highway driving. Still riding for fun. Maybe not like a hooligan...

The livewire is a brilliant motorcycle just when it was launched it was $29000 (UK£29000) which was too much and more or less killed it’s sales before it got into the showrooms. I gather the new livewire will be $22000 when it is relaunched still a lot but more palatable but while a MT 07 is less than $/£8k it will still be a hard sell. Everything about the bike makes sense for my commute to work and local running about just not the price .

The "nebula red" option is back on the website now. They just took it down while they were out of inventory.

I drive mine to work. 50 miles round trip uses 38% of the battery if going 40 to 50mph. I plug it in at 10am when the solar panels can generate the 1350 watts it uses.

Hey mate quick question, I heard that apparently Ruroc has changed their CEO and there has been some internal restructuring, I've seen you express some concern about the longevity of the company even in the very near future, I'm just curious if you don't mind me asking, what is it about the companies current situation that makes you wary of it's future? Perhaps financial struggles? Just curious as especially with the latest DC collaboration they're doing, it would seem they would be quite alright. Then again you wouldn't project any image to the contrary out in public either haha

Great review. To be fair you're on a steep learning curve but hey that's ok. As you've already worked out you could have been charging at office if you had the bikes own charging lead stowed under seat as you say this is the (slow) lifesaver charging option and there are many more plug sockets than pumps in this world! Smart to have your dedicated ev charger in garage, sound investment. If journeying beyond the range of the bike the fuelling is vital as with any machine ;) There are an increasing number of Charging providers and consultation of some of the charging apps/ destinations and google maps can help with locating, just a wee bit of pre/planning is required, remember you are looking for a Rapid charger with the CCS Plug and preferably contactless payment and more than 1 charger is also a good option for redundancy issues. I've done a few 200 mile plus journeys. I start with a full charge ride the bike down to between 10-20% plug in, go for a walk/shop/coffee/eat or just chill whatever is your thing, the bike will charge faster at lower state of charge so that last 80-100% will get slower, generally I unplug about 85-90%. Ride faster charge faster strategy, but it is up to you to find what suits you. I understand Tesla is going to open up it's Charging Infrastructure to othe EV's which will be an added boost.

Service would need to be done by LiveWire, there are a few HD dealers that have signed on to be LiveWire shops.

There is no Livewire dealership (as far as I know). You just go at an enabled Harley dealer, they own the brand (and it's one of the reasons I think the splitting is stupid).

How tall are you?

I think the purchase price of a bike like this will always keep people away. And we aren't even talking about the range.

I live in AZ, im pretty sure filtering isn't legal yet. It passed but it doesn't go into effect for a few months

Anything I saw reported was that it passed. I didn’t see anything saying a date it took effect. You may be right but regardless I’m sure you’d be pressed to find an officer who would write it and if you did, a judge who would enforce it if its just administratively waiting on a date to take effect. I say that under the assumption you aren’t a complete disrespectful jerk, if you are a prick to authority or have a long history in court, you might want to wait for that date to take effect.

46 miles but you drive 39 miles, right? Then 2x46 = 92 miles, real 2x39 = 78 miles. Real? Would it be a good test.

I understand all this electric scooters, electric motorcycle it’s all about saving gas I get it you guys solved that. Here’s my another concern. Since it’s electric cars don’t hear you but, you’re there. For safety can they put speakers with module with different sounds of motorcycles so that cars they know you’re there. I hope they thought about that.

you may get more range by turning regen up and the others down. Regen would use the motor to gain power back while stopping.

Yeah I just never noticed regen adding anything back, not once did I see any percent added back even letting regen run down hill. Just didn’t seem like it was doing enough but did have a little too much engine breaking to the point I felt someone might rear-end me not knowing I was slowing down.

@@GearsGadgets I believe they use accelerometer to light up brake light. The point of regen is to not use mechanical brakes, not super efficient for recharging but great for stopping.

@@MichaelMeyer No need for accelerometer, the bike knows when it's slowing down because of regen. Accelerometers is something that only those stupid helmet break lights use, as they are not connected to the bike.

@@GearsGadgets Think how much you need to lose 1% of battery... now increase that by 50% (my guess, because of inefficiency of charging, and you should add more depending on the slope). That's how much continuous regen downhill you need to see the power increase. As you don't see the number goes down unless if you stare at it, you won't see it go up unless you stare at it.

Wow your audio is fantastic especially when you are going 80+. What is your set up and where do you mount your mic? Or did you reduce the wind noise in post? I've owned my Zero DSR with the Charge Tank for over a year. I have had quite a bit of experience charging away from home. There are issues with public chargers, specifically ChargePoint units which are the most prevelant here in the Bay Area. I like to ride from my home near SFO down the the coast and then to Santa Cruz. It's around 78 miles from my home to my first charge station in town. And most of it means I'm traveling between 65-80. Wind is what really sucks down battery life, specifically our non aerodynamic human forms. The coast highway has NO charging stations between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. So what you mentioned about fanboyz not mentioning being away from chargers is valid in my actual experience. I've also run into CP chargers out of service or using shared power meaning splitting 6.3kW between two chargers. I own and use a Tesla Tap and have NEVER had a Tesla destination charger out of service or using shared power. I don't use my bike for commuting but if that's something I needed to do I could do it easily. Nope mine is strictly for pleasure riding and owning a dual sport; something I can ride TO off road trails rather than using a truck or trailer is something I'd always wanted. But all of my smoker bikes were purpose built, either for motocross, desert or road racing. First used motorcycle I've ever owned too. My personal rule was cars used, bikes new. But there are not the same things that are worn down like on smoker bikes and cars. Rings, valves, springs, etc. Paid 10.5k for my 2017 DSR with Chage Tank, tourinng windshield and 9.2k miles on him when I bought it in March 2021. The bike was on the lot for 132 days too. Guy who owned it bought another Zero a SR/S. The advantage I had is most look at a bike with mileage over 1k and feel 'as if' it has too many miles. When I sold my RC51 race bike it had 28k track miles. So to have this new bike has advantages that are not only hard to describe, but I no longer talk about it because it's ALWAYS the same three quetions: 1. How Far? 2. How Long? 3. How Much? I just ride.

Electric. Just one gear no shifting necessary. Very weird in a very good way.

There is a learning curve going EV for sure, I’m hoping Tesla opens up CCS soon as they have charging sorted.

I could have just used the level 1 that comes with the bike. It puts 13 miles of range per hour back in so between lunch and going home I would have had around 40 miles added to the 13 remaining and had plenty to get home. Unfortunately I didn’t have the charger on the bike so it wasn’t an option.

@@browngreen933 I understand and the key take away is that as a consumer of KZread content you and everyone else who watches the video knows I said it was a press bike and can apply their own opinion of how biased or accurate the content is. I guess I do take it a bit personal when someone questions my authenticity even when I made it clear it was a press bike so that people could apply their own filter to the content. I’ve built a pretty solid reputation for “keeping it real” on this platform and I’m not about to just throw 6 years of work away over access to a motorcycle (that I had to travel 900 miles round trip to pick up).

I would say maybe 1.5x. 2-3X is a pretty unnecessary ask for an electric motorcycle. Most people (who are being honest about how they ride) don’t log frequent trips over 100 miles in a day. The only people who are doing that frequently are touring types (not just people who own baggers, but people who actually log distance tour with their baggers). It’s more of a consideration about people being honest with themselves about what kind of rider they really are.

Lane splitting

I wouldn't really call a $24,000+ motorcycle the best electric daily commuter. There are a lot more cheaper options for an electric daily commuter. It's kind of like calling a turbo Hayabusa the best daily commuter simply because it is one of the fastest motorcycles on the market despite costing over $18,000 new.

Best doesn’t mean cheapest. If you want the cheapest there are many options. Speed also doesn’t mean best. Best means best fit and finish then everything else is subjective in terms of importance with cost, speed, etc.

I got mine for $19k. The dealership bought 10 and had 2 left 2 years later and they wanted to get rid of them.

Really unsure why people buy harleys any more. Most of there new bikes are dead on arrival and the company is so disconnected from what consumers want..

I think the reason why people still buy Harleys is because they have different opinions about the brand lol. Its not for everyone but Harley still makes a super solid product. I just find it funny how when they try new things, people crap all over the brand, then when they dont try anything new, people crap all over the brand for not innovating. Harley is really stuck in a cant win for trying scenario and I am proud they are finally starting not to care and just putting the best products out possible. Livewire and Pan America are two motorcycles that were introduced into the market at the very TOP of the segment and I think the average Harley hater has no idea how incredibly engineered and refined these motorcycles truly are.

Not to mention the touring line are all solid bikes too. This whole “dead on arrival” theme is mostly just somebody repeating what they heard from somebody else. Without ever actually owning and riding one. I’ve owned HD and metric and like aspects of both but my preference is HD. Even tho I currently ride a Honda. 😂

Harley hasn't made a good motorcycle since the evolution powered motorcycle of the 90s the twin cam has been a disaster and the ma is even worse. The Pan America has so many problems that you would need a shopping list to keep track of them. Harley's used to be a real motorcycle and now they are Chrome penis extension for old fucks who are richer than God. Most Harley Riders cannot figure out how to even put gas in their bike. And all the electric vehicles have a nasty habit of burning down the home that they live in whether they are a little electric scooter or a motorcycle or a car. You guys are trying to put a positive spin on days it's like saying that the Titanic is only halfway in the water.

Fantastic bike but there's always a butt not practical at all and above all in today's day and age so bad for the environment. To make one battery you have to move ground size of empire state building. And use energy from that ground to make that one battery and after it's life is over better not throw it like as used tire........

The seat sucks. I loved the performance but $22K for an uncomfortable bike??

I've found that the seat comfort is dependent on when it was made. I have two LiveWires, which were made about 7 months apart - the more recent one has a really comfy seat - so it seems there were some minor tweaks to the manufacturing. Newer model = better seat

This is what really pisses me off about EV charging. There should be a standard, this Wild West crap about chargers is stupid and irritating. Ive seen places that charge by the minute for charging!?! like what the heck, why would you charge by time. That'd be like getting charged by the minute when filling your gas tank, stupid. Some gas stations are fast and others slow. For the same amount of gas. Same issue with TVs, they should be charging by the kilowatt hour. Also there should be a standard of charging speeds and plug in types on EVs. All Eva should be able to charge at the same speed, at any charger, and be charged by the KWh. No service fees or anything, just a simple price per kWh.

It’s a playground directly across the street, my walk around is no more dangerous than anyone else walking down the side of the road going to and from that park. A $30,000 roughly commuter bike who are you kidding? Just because the bike is limited because of it short range doesn't mean that it's suitable for commuting when it costs five times as much as say a Royal Enfield 350. You can count all your BS advantages that you want but it all boils down to a boondoggle. The environmental damage to provide the minerals to provide for all the batteries that you people will need will be ridiculous. The only electric vehicles that are viable are electric street cars with third rail or pantograph overhead wiring. All the electric vehicles motorcycles included are a bunch of crap. They are expensive as hell ugly as shit and not worth $0.10 on the dollar for their prices. If it wasn't for governments throwing billions of dollars of taxpayers money at companies electric vehicles would not exist except for maybe golf carts.
