Who would have thought that the reigning T20 World Champions would be lagging behind in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe? Well, the Sikandar Raza-led side has scripted a historic win against India in the series opener on Saturday (July 6) at Harare Sports Club in a low-scoring affair. They are the confident side heading into the second T20I of the series at the same venue in Harare on Sunday (July 7).
Shubman Gill, leading the Indian senior team for the first time, didn't have any hesitation in bowling first on a surface that surprisingly had something in it for the bowlers. Indian spinners Ravi Bishnoi (4 wickets) and Washington Sundar (2 wickets) made life difficult for the home team, but a late surge from Clive Madande (29* runs) avoided the all-out as well as took the team to a total of 115/9, giving his unit something to bowl at. There were a couple more 20+ contributions from the top and middle-order batters, but it was never going to trouble the visitors. It was because of Madande that Zimbabwe pushed the score close to 120 after being at 90/9 at one stage.
