Live from Wimbledon - Day 1

Спорт

The big headline on Day One was Aryna Sabalenka’s withdrawal due to her shoulder injury. Catherine, David and Matt discuss the news and speculate about who might benefit. Could it be Emma Raducanu after her victory on Monday?
Elsewhere, there’s chat about Naomi Osaka’s topsy turvy victory over Diane Parry, an impressive showing from Diana Schnaider, and an unwanted statistic for Zhang Shuai.
On the men’s side, there’s reaction to Jannik Sinner surviving a brief scare to set up a showdown with Matteo Berretini, Mark Lajal being a fun time against Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud winning on grass and revealing he dealt with a parasite after Paris, and a big comeback victory for Frances Tiafoe.

It says a lot about Sakkari that she is the highest seed left in the "Sabalenka" quarter and she wasn't even mentioned.

Naomi Osaka had a match point against Iga at Roland Garros in the tournament that Iga won 4/5 past years and she’s most comfortable. Now that Osaka is on a surface that’s more suited to her game - I think she’s being overlooked.

This whole story with Sabalenka's health worries me because it looks like it may be something more serious. I hope I am a bad prophet for her her absence, for a longer time, would be very noticeable. Sabalenka's high-class, distinctive style of play and her colorful character, on and off the court, are irreplaceable. I wholeheartedly wish Aryna health and health once again.

@@FranciszekLewicki-dm3st Tennis injuries have ruined some promising careers like Thiem and del Potro on the men’s side. Hopefully, she will return to full strength.

@@slipperyblueclay2521 Thank you for reminding us about one of the most original talents: Dominic Thiem. I encourage all viewers to watch several videos about this player available on KZread. One of the most beautiful one-armed backhands in the history of tennis. It's more of a backhand topspin than a classical backhand. Pure poetry. Sometimes I think that this one-armed backhand caused injuries to the wrist subjected to severe stress. At that time, tennis was changing to more strength based on a long, strong ball at the end of the court, on the base line. This is what we see today.

We will only have two first time Wimbledon semifinalists in the bottom half of the women's draw because Sabalenka AND Azarenka withdrew. Vika has made the semifinals twice.

Frances Tiafoe is the real clown. Surprised you guys didn't talk about the excellent heated 2-set battle between Muchova & Badosa! Also Jordan Thompson coming back to win his match vs Kotov from 2 sets to love down.
