I am a newby 2 colored pencils. I wasn't so sure about it. Seemed like a lot of work. Now, I'm trying 2 get the hang of gamsol, and have ordered a new set of 160 pencils. Arrives tomorrow. Can't wait! Thx Jennifer.

I love using gamsol with my colored pencils but I found another use for gamsol. When you color with crayons you can use gamsol to blend the colors. Coloring with crayons can get a little smudged and not well blended but gamsol makes the colors come together very easily. You can use a blending stub or a q tip.

I have been enjoying your videos and I appreciate these blending tips. Blending stubs are my favorite as well. I gotta share: I was coloring with my grandchildren and was teaching them about blending. I told them not to press to hard or they will squash the paper’s teeth. This created quite a ruckus. Hahaha.

I really like using Gamsol for blending. It leaves such a smooth creamy finish. I agree on some of those Blending stumps. They can be a pain to use. I have actually been using a Q-tip for blending. I love it! I use very little on the tip and it goes so much further. The stump soaks up so much Gamsol I think. I have tried different types of Q-tips. The more compressed flat kind etc, but always end using the regular Q-tip brand.

+Diane Bartosiewicz, thanks for your insights. I have used cotton swabs before...the cheap dollar store variety, and I've used the flattened kind, but I should try the qtip brand...the more rigid stick part may make it work better for me.

Hi , you are a blessing to the coloring industry, I can honestly say we appreciate your teaching. I have been coloring for less then a year, so I am still new to coloring in coloring books only . I have bought so many brands along with so many coloring books because it’s so fun. I have a question regarding gamsol. Can this mineral spirit be used in coloring books? I think this is what you are saying. ( you are always using the good paper so I’m just trying to make sure I ‘m hearing you right) .I know everything depends on the tooth of the paper. The basic problem with coloring books is that they do not tell you if they have tooth. (Of course I have learned so much from you, you have been my go-to- video) I also notice that various coloring pencils work better in certain books. So I save my better pencils for my better quality books, and use my “ school grade pencils” in my less expensive coloring books. I’ve seen videos on using markers in coloring books but I am afraid to use just any kind of brand for fear of damaging the paper. What do you suggest? I want to know how do you use comic markers verses posca markers. They look great on Utube but I need to know your thoughts on it ( because they are expensive to just try). The videos out there only talk about copic markers not with mix media like pencils , yet I see some artist using both. But no one is explaining the effects in coloring in coloring books only as an artist they are using it when drawing. I bought three foreign coloring book “ Mysteria” by Anastasia ........and by Emmanuelle Colin , M.O.M.O.G.I.R. L. Books coming from S. Korea . I see other artist using copic markers. The pictures are so real like but of course I am still learning how to color skin tones and hair colors. Like in everything it’s all about practicing. I keep a book on everything that you have taught and others. Sorry for the long texting it’s just I like to explain so that you would know where I am coming from. When you get a chance I would like to know your thoughts. Thanks again for all your comments I appreciate it!

I am appreciating a lot your long explaining process in your colouring , bc I am a colorist myself and I am trying to find rare pure pearls hacks to use in my colouring books first before doing some orders! Concerning you cheaper colouring books paper like Amazon one, use ModPodge in spray with layers each and let it dry between layer! You can use clear gesso too, but it is matter of taste! TKY for your input! From Canada Québec! 😊

That rolled paper blending thingy is called a "tor-tee-on." I prefer a stump. It's easier to pronounce, and it works better for me. Tortillons are usually smaller and work better for tight places. Stumps can be renewed and used for a longer time.

It would be the safest for your lungs, and I blends just as well in my experience-- just takes a little more effort. I've tried all the methods of blending... baby oil, vaseline, colorless blender, burnishing, mineral spirits, alcohol, glycerine.... and mineral spirits and colorless blender are my favs.

Be careful with those blenders. Even a light touch can press down the tooth of the paper. Using too much thinner over not enough light layers can also make the pigment look a bit grainy.

Gamsol is used by many professionals for their commissions. I am sure there must be some change in lightfastness, but it must be negligible

Just FYI, went to where you said you had Amazon links for everything and found NO links to anything. Either they went missing or they are just very hard to find. It would be easier for your viewers if those links were above these comments. Does YT allow for editing after upload?

I missed it too but already learned something, I wasn't aware of using Gamsol with Inktense pencils. I've been using a water brush and the page has to be decent quality or you have to be so very careful. Would you use the Gamsol with a brush to activate, I'm supposing that' the way. I would love to use my Mona Lisa OMS, which I don't find has any odour that I can pick up on. It's half the price of Gamsol btw, I love it.

Karen Clement I was actually thinking of putting Gamsol in one of the water brushes' reservoirs, the water brush that has the felt tip.

+Karen Clement, awesome that you found a brand with no smell! Most people prefer using a brush with their OMS, but I still like my blending stumps. Try them both and let me know what you choose.

that sounds like a great idea, I don't have a water brush with a felt tip could you tell me the brand and a link where I might get one. Thanks so much.

The water brushes are Caran D'ache Aquarelle, set of three (two brushes, one felt point). I don't know how to link...sorry. I work from an ipad and just don't know how. BUt if you search 'caran d'ache aquarelle water brushes' on Amazon, you'll see them. The felt tip is the red pen in the set. What I like about these brushes is that they have a button to push that releases the water. Water is more easily controlled. Let me know if you find them.

cindy thank you so much, I never knew there were water brushes with better control over the water flow. I will look into them at Amazon to start and let you know, I like the idea of putting the OMS right in the water brush. Thank a million.

Derwent new ink based and supposed to be permanent when dry. I have heard 50/50 GREAT when dry don't run, and other reviews say not permanent when dry.

Can you do a video with the ZestIt blender compared to the odorless thinner with pencils and different papers. I love the smell of oranges but don’t want to waste money and then it not work as well. Do the companies send you supplies to try and review? Hope so, I know they do with many folks. You just have to make sure they understand you do fair tasks no prisoners reviews.

Zest-it works exactly the same as oms, I use it for coloured pencils and oil painting, I have a bottle of Gamsol but have never needed to use it.

Instead of aquaphor you can just use vaseline. It's basically the same thing. If I do this technique ill probably just use vaseline it's much cheaper than aquaphor. I actually like the aquaphor blending spot better than gamsol. Just my opinion. Love your videos

Instead of baby oil you can use mineral oil you get at the drugstore and it has no smell and works the same.

According to WIKIPEDIA. A stump and tortillion are the same thing, the stump is wound tighter it said and are made of softer paper. I thought they were the same thing. :-)

Wow, baby oil doesn’t bother me at all, but mineral spirits is an instant migraine. I’m still in search of the perfect blender that won’t cause a migraine. I currently just use a blending pencil but it’s not the result I prefer. I have two sets of pencils, prismacolor premier for everyday practice and play and Holbein for art sale work.

Kristina it is so interesting to me what triggers headaches in one person and doesn’t in someone else. Such a strange thing. There are other solvents to try...like rubbing alcohol.

Polys are oil based and Prismas are wax based so they don't blend well together.
