What’s the movie Little Women about?
In nineteenth-century Massachusetts, with their father away serving in the Civil War, the women of the March family - the loving matriarch, Marmee (Laura Dern from Mask and Wild), and her four daughters, Jo (Saoirse Ronan from Lady Bird and Brooklyn), Meg (Emma Watson from Harry Potter and Secret Circle), Amy (Florence Pugh from The Falling), and Beth (Eliza Scanlen) - are left all alone to fend for themselves. Faced with genteel poverty, the fledgeling author, Jo March, is struggling to make a name for herself in male-dominated New York City; considerate Meg is now married, and the artistically inclined, Amy, is in Paris with their affluent Aunt March (Meryl Streep from Out of Africa and The Iron Lady). However, the news of talented Beth's illness will reunite the sisters under the same roof. But, more than anything in the world - much to the disappointment of the handsome next-door neighbour, Theodore "Laurie" Laurence (Timothee Chalamet from Call me by your name and Beautiful Boy) - the fiercely independent Jo yearns for freedom.

The fact that he felt from the very beginning he had to change himself and hide certain things about himself in order for her to maybe love him, is a huge sign she wasn’t right for him but he was too young to notice and value himself enough. He truly didn’t think he was good enough as a person. He was always the one seeking her approval. That’s never healthy. It was inevitable she would reject him. But it still breaks my heart. They are classic case of a perfect almost. But it just doesn’t fit romantically.

Everyone learns to love someone when they receive love. Coming from someone who couldn't love a guy back despite being loved a lot but I only knew him for a few months and we never clicked. But Jo and Laurie clicked, they made each other laugh, they shared views even argued about them but they never ran out of things to talk about. The thing is Jo only thought about her passion and her future and the fact that being a woman should not cage her to love and marriage but that's not practical and she does regret that and I feel that loneliness and regret makes her fall for that German dude. Because in the book both Amy and Laurie and Jo and Freidrich happened very fast

The key to a successful relationship is to find someone you like. As my grandmother told me- you can love someone and not like who they are- so make sure you like them, too. I didn’t marry until I was 35. I loved my single life and all the liberty I had and I am so glad I had that. When you are ready to share your life with someone, the challenge becomes finding the right someone. The advantage you have in that quest is not being afraid to be alone; you will be more selective. 😉 I have been happily married for 16 years and I love my married life, my husband, and being a mom. But, I am glad I gave myself time for me before making a such a life commitment.

When I was a little girl I watched the version where Christian Bale is Teddy and Winona Ryder is Joe. And I hated Kirsten Dunst for ever for Mary and Teddy and I hated Amy and I always did. Now I’m in my 30s and I finally understand and this doesn’t break my heart at all. I understand the history, I understand the context of her freedom & his expectations not being rooted in reality, and I understand why she didn’t love him and how she was right that it would’ve been terrible. It’s funny, because little women is marketed to, well, little women. Girls. But I understand it as an adult in a much more sophisticated way. There’s this necessary context of the time That is so vital to understand when understanding Jo

If only he had said, "I will support you with your writing dreams and ambitions Jo and I want to help you become a published author." The most important dream for Jo was to become a published author, and in that period after you get married, you must give up your dreams as a young woman to take care of your family. The way into Jo's heart was through her dreams. Instead of feeling so sad and angry, Laurie could have used his time to help Jo and support her, giving her time to develop that love for him like she wrote about in her stories. But that would have taken years of wisdom that Laurie as a young man at that age could not have understood.

One moment you thought you'll never settle with someone, the next moment you can never live without them... but since life dissapoints, you need to move on even if you absolutely feel you cant. The little head shake in the beginning before he proposes. The unspoken immediate understanding. Apparently gerwig was really particular about about not overwriting that and trusting that the audience could follow. Little details like that makes me a forever fan of hers and it made me team Chalamet again too. Admittedly I was tired of chalamet craze but watching this made me remember how warranted the craze is. Everything aside, kudos to Timothee Chalamet for the amazing performance in this scene. The emotions, desperation were evident in his eyes, body language & whole energy. Loved how he delivers the lines, repeated "I love you Jo", when he turns to hear what else she has to say with a glimpse of hope. And that last "I'll watch". It seems like a simple acting part but it was so much more. He earned a fan.

I think this is because women are more emotional and they end up to beleive that a man who insists on having one of them really deserves her and she easily can fell in love with him for his caring. Love and care is what she needs. While the case is different if a man rejects her, her dignity cannot bear that she runs after him and it cannot be expected that he will love her in return, which will be more painful. This is why she withdraws in silence as she will never enter his heart even after marriage.

There is a heavy universe in front of you that you weigh with what you feel. Jo may admit she has feelings, but there is a lot of ground when you compare it to aspirations and possibilities. And it is good that she is honest with all the reality that they face. Laurie is blinded by love, but Jo is one step ahead, and she breaks down what she feels but what is viable.

I will never not sob any time this scene is played. it’s so beautiful and heartbreaking all at once and all too relatable when you feel like you’ve been both Jo and Laurie.

This is such a sad season but necessary you can't change how you feel you always have to be honest with yourself and others.

This scene reminds me when my best friend confessed me that he loved me and I turned him down... I broke his heart... it was so painful... I didn't mean to... but I couldn't help it... I couldn't love him the way he wanted 😞 afterwards everthing changed between us... and the worst of all was that he passed away some weeks after... that's why I can't help crying so much when I see this scene 😭💔

Sending 💗 and respect for the memories you made together and love you had for each other, even if it was romantically unrequited. I hope that love helps heal your heart from your friend’s passing.

I'm reading the book for the first time and I love it so much! I understand why it's been loved for years! I just got up to this part of the book and it broke my heart. Both actors did an amazing job 👏🏼
