Coming back here after Barbie. Greta is such an inspiration and a sharp creator. You can tell she loves and studies humanity deeply in all her films. I feel she's made many of the movies I was aching to see earlier in life. She deserves all the accolades and more

those poor women..they just want the opportunity to be like men(with all the freedom of being conscripted to dying in continental land wars, cleaning/building sewer pipes and cleaning ditches)......we all know however, 99% of men dont actually take on these menial tasks..Men are all KINGS and RICH and we have super easy lives.

The only downside for me, is that the "before" and "after" characters weren't physically different enough. Florence Pugh acting as a 12 year old but looking like a 20 year old was jarring.

It's a big experimental mess. I recommend the 94 version and the 2018 PBS mini series with Maya Hawke, both already had a strong femminist message and brought the characters to life, and also the 87 anime, Tales Of Little Women.

@@ildikoedit9110 Isn't it funny how people refuse to accept that opinions can be both positive and negative? I completely agree with you, it was awful. The 1994 version is way better, had more heart and depth and it flowed...this movie was trying so hard and felt incomplete. The acting felt so rehearsed too..even Meryl Streep acted as if she was very aware of the fact that she is acting. If all these greats actors came off that way, it means it's the director's fault. Thanks for being one of the very few likeminded individuals in the comment section.

She did not do it justice...It was awful compared to the one with Kirsten Dunst, Winona Ryder and Claire Danes.... Had such high hopes, was so excited to see it...and it was incredibly disappointing. Movies these days suck compared to the 90s. Even Meryl Streep can't save movies these days. I don't see why people like Greta's work so much...I find it very incomplete, always missing something...like it's trying too hard and doesn't have a soul or depth. My opinion, I get the right to voice it.

What aspect didn’t you like? I think this version was the most complete - it gave ALL the sisters the chance to shine with a storyline rather than just Jo. Jo’s ending might have been “girl gets book” but the other sisters get their happy endings too; and best of all, it’s realistic and timeless because women today can get each of those happy endings as well.

@@lilygarner8463 My issue isn't with the storyline to be honest, by all means the intention and passion that Greta went in with it is commendable...what I was missing is depth and warmth that I feel when I watch the 94 version. It was missing the "je ne said quoi" that the older version had. I felt like all the actors in the movie (except for Saorsie) were very aware that they were acting..including Meryl who obv I love. But it felt like a play than a story. Not that dislike plays, but this just felt like many pieces stuck together without fitting right. I like this type of film to feel like reading my favourite book and that's waht the 90s version did for me, whereas this one felt like a chore, I couldn't wait for it to be over and I sort of cringed because of the acting a few times.

This movie was not it, yo. Great attention to detail in the robe department, but man… what a disappointment. Florence Pugh was probably the only outstanding part of this (and only at times), which makes me wonder if Gerwig was the real mismatch for this group of talented actors (minus Chalamet, who can’t act one bit).
