I know someone in this, it's a great film

Mrs Cavelli, the tenant, comes across as more superior than the landlords. She gives it to Greg Kinnear who's an actor wannabe who makes no dosh. However, the art ambitions of the tenant's boy are shown to be derivative and far below the imaginative abilities of his pal, Jake. Critics say that the 2 boys are gay but they don't know it yet! Very contestable in my opinion. Class differences are mined, as are the issues of gentrification in the city. Sentiment, attachment and kindness are casualties of the need to put up the rent. Greg Kinnear is a great actor- fantastic in Auto Focus- and he plays the husband who's a non-starter in the breadwinning stakes, admirably.Whose side are you on in this film? It will get you to take sides, inevitably!

Just saw this and was pretty disappointed. I liked the friendship between the boys, but too much of the story was about the issue between their parents which wasn't even interesting. They didn't focus enough on the things that were good.

+akirashock26 What, the friendship is established they hit it off withing their first encounter and like to stay at each others' places and he even stood up for him even tough he wasn't there and without the feud their would be no plot or conflict, of course their main focus is going to be around the feud and the tragic consequences of the mothers attitude and her failure to comply or negotiate with the family. Also they obviously didn't want to be a cliche and rather gave a more realistic scenario with their friendship drifting apart and both going their separate ways

akirashock26 It would have been more challenging and more of an accomplishment, to have a plot wherein the boys somehow maintain some sort of connection. That friendship was too much to lose (and to say in reply, 'they were just kids' is pretty cynical and patronising). There was also little subjectivity or reflection in the boys' characters. On the whole this film was shallow AF and it didn't have to be. The mum had had it easy for too long, you don't emotionally blackmail ppl to maintain such a situation, and then say that would have been a good outcome. Life changes but loyalty can remain.

I liked it, it shows how when you are young your parents opinions have a tool on you and who you hang around with at such age. Tony could have kept in contact, jake could have done that too, but they didn't, and it might all have been because of their parents. it shows the fragility of friendships. Also i think it's very delicate in the end jake believed they will attend the same school but Tony didn't got in, so, is it better for jake to make believe tony he didn't get in so he doesn't feel bad about it? was tony on the look out for jake?

Well to be honest, I am both glad this movie didn't go for two hours but you wont get the 1.5 hours back either. Nothing really happens in this film. One to miss in my opinion.

The attachment that Jake had with Tony was a little weird. I could see how people were questioning Jake’s sexuality in the movie. It seem like Tony and Jake were opposite people. I kind of knew eventually that they would go their separate ways.

Just watched the movie today. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. There was so much promise with this film, I LOVE films about friendship but most of the film revolved around the parents and their petty, boring, stupid fight that put a wedge to the boy's friendship. I'm telling you now, don't watch it if you want a good ending, ending was shit. No resolution, no conversation between the boys to rebuild their friendship, not even an acknowledgement. I really wanted to see more of Toni, he was the star of the film, both boys were but they didn't showcase them enough. They should change the trailer to 'Old Ass Adults who got kids' because that's what the film is truly about.

The movie is about the struggles of small business owners who do not own the building they have there businesses located in. Has for the two friends, once they did not see each other any more, they forgot about being friends.

Sorry but this whole film blatantly tried to normalize gentrification. I was actually incredibly put off by how shallow the ending was.
