Popeye hasn't had any major feature made for film or television in nearly two decades. That's long enough for an entire generation to be born and grow to adulthood without ever being exposed to the character. Maybe he's not forgotten entirely, but he's certainly waning in relevance.

For Super Mario Bros. 2, you could have mentioned the even lesser known fact that Doki Doki Panic started life as a platformer similar to Mario, according to Miyamoto, before switching life to Doki Doki Panic, back over to a direct Mario game.

I always said Wart was a dream demon. He doesn't exist. He is basically the Freddy Krueger of video games as he is also in Link's Awakening which is a dream. I actually have an archived post still on gamefaqs about this from years ago

Further adding to the shared dreamscape theory is the fact that Wart appears in Zelda: Link’s Awakening, another game which takes place in a dream world. So maybe SMB2 takes place within the Wind Fish’s dreams also? Or are the Wind Fish and the dreamer of the SMB2 dream world from the same universe where the “Wart” creature is a real thing?

the Plasmatics forever! I did catch that reference, not when the game came out (I was too young), but as a teen in the early 90s and getting way into punk. Oddly, I was a King Missile fan first, and the song "I'm Sorry" has the line "I never sawed a television in half, although I once saw Wendy O Williams saw a guitar". I made the connection with Mario 3, and then had to find out who she was, and was instantly a fan!

I like Lost Levels! It's fun, it's Mario, it's hard but doable. Though still not a fan of the mazes haha

While I'm sure it still has its fans, Lost Levels is probably stuck in an awkward niche, too hard for casual gamers, whereas hardcore gamers are likely to be drawn to the even more challenging Kaizo hacks.

Bowsette is one of my favourite fan-made mario characters after yoshi and i honestly never expected her to actually be in this video. (some people were getting mad at the comment bruh even thought i clearly did NOT say shes an official character..)

i me sure that the names of the koopas were revealed in SMB 3 on the NES. They should have been mentioned there...

I have an idea of why people thought of what happens if Bowser gets the super crown, I bet it's because of the final boss in 3d world where Bowser uses the cat bell confirming he can use powers too, and ignore the realization of only toadette can use it they then created this fantasy idea that Nintendo thought of as well. Also you now gave me a new question what would happen if peach used the super crown?

The koopalings made their first appearance in SMB3, not Super Mario World.

Doki Doki Panic as built off of an engine designed for a failed attempt at a new Mario game, because Shigeru Miyamoto didn't want to just make more levels for the first. It was shelved when the deadline started looming, and Tekashi Tezuka took over. Tezuka is also the one who wanted eyes on literally every object in the game and not just certain ones. The game engine's code was reused when Nintendo made a licensing deal with Yume Kojo, before eventually being asset flipped back into a Mario game again.

Mario Sunshine isn't the inspiration for Splatoon, and the team that created Splatoon only realized the parallels way afterwards. They originally wanted the game to be about Tofu blocks shooting spy sauce before changing it to rabbits shooting paint. When they couldn't figure out a good reason rabbits would do that, they changed it to squids shooting colored ink. It was after the game was in its final pre release build someone finally mentioned Mario Sunshine.

Where I grew up, "mario 1" was the game with the enemies coming out of the pipes and Mario and Luigi killing them by hitting the floor under them. Mario 2 was "super mario bros", and then "mario 3" was SMB3. I never heard of either version of SMB2 until the internet.

Plus, it wasen't used in the final game. The spefic idea of Bowser wearing the Super Crown is FULLY *FAN-MADE*
