Seeing this video it reminded me how welcoming the people in New Zealand's preservation scene are. Got many shed visits and footplate rides during my 2 holidays I had to New Zealand, this even when the railway was not open to the public but staff was around. One of the footplate trips was on the Shanty Town engine shown at the end, the loco crew noticed an interest in the engine beyond what the normal visitor would show and after asking them to give some info they invited me to ride on the footplate.

7:25-9:15 Wow, was not expecting the intro to Telegraph Road in there. Fits the clip pretty well, and just makes this lovely film all the more worth watching for me 👌🏻

Great footage thanks for sharing. It is really interesting to see all those (mostly British designed) locos working and to compare them with obvious British and Irish counterparts. Here in the UK, our preserved railways are now up to the task of building brand new replica steam locos. Within that group, the new Falcon loco for the Corris Railway has just had its first steam tests at Alan Keef's works near Ross on Wye while one of their previous efforts, a replica Baldwin 2-4-2T, is now in service on the Lynton & Barnstaple railway.

Great video! Do you know of any footage of the Christchurch rail yard display for the centenary in 1963? I believe there was one of every type of engine in service with NZGR.
