Congolese in Guangzhou | Little Africa in China

"Ethnic neighborhoods around the world" introduces food & culture in ethnic enclaves around the world.
This is our newest series in Guangzhou (China), which is known for the largest African community in Asia. In this episode, we encountered people from different parts of Africa, and tried the Congolese cuisines.

    @@halimaissack4719 It's likely true because they try that mess here in America, particularly in nail salons, but they will go to jail. What's worse is that other black women getting their nails done will sit and do nothing and they continue to patronize them. Years ago in Los Angeles, a Korean store owner accused a 15 yr. Old black girl of stealing. The little girl argued with her and left the juice she was going to purchase on the counter. When the girl walked away to leave the store, the woman shot her in the back of the head. She got no jail time, only probation and she had to leave the country. People took to the streets to riot. Her name was LaTasha Harlings; look it up.

    As an African in the diaspora and citizen there (not China by the way), I think we (Africans or black people) need to strive strenuously to become more independent in trade, technology and in other sectors needed to forge an independent society. We also need to think or worry less about how we are perceived by others. God help us all.

    @Sukan Your point is irrelevent. Chinese people are trying to push the blame on Africans for starting this virus by throwing them out of the places where they stay! This and many other viruses such as SARS have come from China.

  • @haatpraat2993

    @haatpraat2993

    @Sukan I'm talking about Africans being thrown out of their rental accomodations in China because their landlords think coronavirus is from Africa. In fact coronavirus is from China. It is from a 'wet market' where snakes, bats, dogs etc are keep in casges for food or it came out of a Chinese lab. Either way Wuhan was the place that was first locked down in the world and it is China where people were first dying in big numbers because of coronavirus.

  • @haatpraat2993

    @haatpraat2993

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Sukan If the virus did not originate in China, why were Chinese people the first to die in their thousands? And please don't say the USA put the virus there, that is delusional. And yes, 'wet markets' were all kinds of animals including, bats, snakes, dogs are kept in cages for food DO exist in China.

  • @haatpraat2993

    @haatpraat2993

    @Sukan OK, my comment with caged dogs etc was a little too much, but the virus DID come from China and the Chinese ARE throwing innocent Africans from their homes in an attempt to blame Africans for the virus. Perhaps you should hold your hand and admit you are wrong. This Coronavirus is from China. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oI6tqJNmmZOcdtY.html

    Piece of advice for Africans in Guangzhou (in response to all the comments here pointing at racism): - Learn Chinese - make an effort to integrate (how many of you would travel to the U.S. and not understand a word in English??) - Form an organization or group for Africans in Guangzhou and work together! - As a group, have a representative speak for you when you have issues. Be organized. - As a group, stay informed on announcements and protocols in your host country (China). - Make sure you always keep members of the community informed and on the same page. - As a group, always work together to flush out illegal migrants! Protect your dignity and pride as Africans and flush out anyone that spoils your name. - Earn your respect and protect it. If you cannot make the effort then stay in your home country.

    Not all Chinese here but lots don’t bother to learn English. I’m Chinese myself so there are exceptions. There’s a city called Richmond and it’s bought up by Chinese people, probably because of the name. All the business signs are in Chinese characters and if you don’t speak Mandarin or at least Cantonese you don’t get service. It’s an injustice to non Chinese Canadians.

    danny Q I see what you mean. There is a place like that here in Nigeria too (like a China town of sorts). I guess my other points still apply (the need for Africans to work together). It is harder for a crises like the one in Guangzhou to happen if the community works together.

    Wow, so many hateful comments here.... There's no denying that racism exist in Guangzhou, but try to understand it's not specifically against Africans. Local Guangzhou people are racist against their own kind from other provinces because they're habits & lifestyle are different, harder working and often overtaking them in their own jobs, competition and the list goes on (First hand info from a Guangzhou resident I've known). People are proud of their culture and lifestyle where ever they are from, try fitting into the local lifestyle and their ways could avoid these confrontations? It's inevitable that cultures clash in some small ways but is revenge and hatred going to solve anything? Some respect and understand from both sides will be a good start.

    @@chengchiu957 There are many unknown factors here like what kind of VISA they're on. If visit / holiday visas then it's justified that they cannot work or have an bank account (usually a prerequisite for business and registration) Are you trying to say there's a section of Written Chinese Law explicitly mentioning Africans are NOT allowed to do certian things in China? Or they cannot drive because they don't have a local drivers license? I'm not allowed to drive in China because I don't have their local licence, it's too much hassle to apply because of the time it'll take and tests, is that not reasonable?
