LITHUANIA EUROVISION 2022 - REACTING TO MONIKA LIU ‘SENTIMENTAI’ (FIRST LISTEN)

Ойын-сауық

Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you're new here, my name's Rachel and I'm a huge Eurovision fan, as well as a musician. In today's video, I reacted to for the first time, 'Sentimentai' by Monika Lui, who will be representing Lithuania at this year's upcoming contest. I felt that Lithuania had some big shoes to fill after last year's contest, where The Roop placed in the top ten with their infectious song 'Discoteque'.
'Sentimentai' is a warm and sultry number that is performed well on stage by Monika. She has good stage presence and a lot of confidence, especially with her vocals which are really strong live. The song is a change from the normal entries that Lithuania tends to send, this being much more laid back and more of a showcase of the artists talent rather than anything too kitsch, There are some elements I really enjoy, such as her vocal range and delivery of the melody lines, as well as the use of the Lithuanian language. However, the cycling of the same chord progressions end up with the song losing power and becoming slightly repetitive. There's also little inflexions of a bass synth that transported me back to twenty years ago, where that particular sound may have been popular, but nowadays to a modern ear, crass. There was also a noticeable lack of a catchy hook - by the end of the song, I struggled to recall any of the last three minutes.
All of these factors together, taking the positives and the negatives, results in a score which I believe is fair.
Initial Score: 6.5/10
Intro 00:00
Reaction 01:06
Thoughts and Comments 06:18
Outro 08:05

I must say you are very objective, and, what is rear in this genre, not trying to please related audiences (I am Lithuanian :) Your analysis seems straight to the point and very professional. Thank you. I’ve just subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing your reactions on other ESC entries.

it's somewhere in-between James Bond OST, Taken By A Stranger and a sterotypical Portishead single

I'm Lithuanian. This verry classy song. You have to interpret the lyrics to understand the song. Knock knock knock - she can't sleep, thinking about him. Her heart rate is crazy. She sees a loved one in horror sleep. He is like a clown laughing at her crying yes. Moments are spinning in her head, She remebers a gift of million roses - everything vanishes in a sea of clouds. He drowned. The only thing that remains of him is BLACK FOAM from the COLD sea and MEMORIES standing in the middle of dunes of Nida and waiving to a seagull so far, far away...

If you're interested in what the words mean - there's an english version of it in the official music video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k5etw5iOk622Yc4.html Just a note - the performance you were watching was the one right after she won the competition to go to Turin, that's why it was quite a bit more expressive than usual! 😄

A Lithuanian Liza Minnelli for the new millennium! A solid, expert, confident performer (who is apparently a super-star in Lithuania). A classy entry, but it still hasn't managed to win me over as much as my beloved The Roop!

this gave me roaring twenties vibes, something that I could listen to in piano bar club those years, but with a modern take. The look of the artist, the dress and stage are also perfect. Not a banger, but a song that is a pleasure to listen to, at least for me. 7/10

London colling sparato a 10.000 watt. Dai fateci sognare come solo voi sapete fare con la musica vera e non costruita da un PC.

I really don't know what it is, but I like this one a lot. It has something that just draws me in. Maybe it's cause it reminds me a bit of older chanson-like songs from France or even the Eastern bloc in the 70s and 80s. To add to the mix of what this song reminds people here of - lol - the song "Milion Alyh Roz" by Russian diva Alla Pugacheva somehow springs to mind when I listen, and not just cause of the lyric "million roses like sentiments. Final plus - it's in Lithuanian, hooray for linguistic diversity!

If we wanted an immediate hook we would have sent something like this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIuIw8x-mteypZs.html. It is a parody of 90s music of very high quality (Saulius Prūsaitis is a famous composer and singer and has a good sense of humor). But Lithuania still hopes that Eurovision is not so primitive.

There is a high probability that Diana Ankudinova will represent Russia at Eurovision 2022. She is called the queen of goosebumps, a unique voice - contralto with polyphonic overtones. "Together with her tessitura, it identifies her potential voice type as dramatic contralto, the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto voice." (Wikipedia about Diana) Full vocal range - 4 octaves. The most famous hit of the king of rock 'n' roll in an unrivaled gorgeous, phenomenal performance by Diana Ankudinova ( 18 y.o.) Can’t Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley / DARK VERSION cover) Please react to Diana Ankudinova ! Last year, the number of reactions to Diana exceeded the number of 10 thousand reactions (in my playlist section there are two playlists of 5 thousand reactions each).

@@heppolo Kirkorov was amazed by Diana's voice in the ShowMaskGOon show, in which Diana won. Now the Mask show has begun on the NTV channel, Diana, for some reason, also appeared among the audience there, also in the photo Kirkorov hugged Diana. And that's not all either, in her TT, Diana posted hearts in the colors of the Italian flag, maybe all these are coincidences, or specific hints, we'll find out soon.
