Spicedforlife ....especially as an American. Whereas Brits can do American roles with ease the same can not be said of Americans playing Brits. Only a few actors such as Gweneth Paltrow, Renee Zellweger to name a few can do it. John can now be added to that list.

I haven't started watching it yet, but will very soon. Churchill's mother was American; to me that makes Lithgow an even more interesting casting choice. JMO.

You have obviously never watched him in anything then Stiras. He has been in plenty of things over the years from the very famous Santa Claus movie to 3rd Rock from the Sun and he is very American in those.

Churchill was half American on his mother's side. Go and read a history book. And he was responsible for for mass starvation in Amritsar India when he diverted rice crops to support the war effort.

Lithgow should get an Emmy for his performance. He was magnificent as Churchill !

Foy is a very good actress. But what's most impressive about her role as QEII is her speech. She speaks the Queen's English FLAWLESSLY on the series.

the depiction of Churchill is so fucking on point, what an amazing actor john is... I was so drawn to the character in this show, a different point of view on one of the strongest and highest prime ministers in history.. it was just chilling the scene where the queen and him meet for the first time...amazing

The line God save the queen gave me goosbumps and is my favourite line ever

they both KILLED their parts! absolutely phenomenal performances.

Claire Foy is sooo sweet; fantastic actress too. Watched the first 3 episodes of the show. Magnificent performances by Matt, Claire, and John. We finally get a human perspective of the most famous royal family in the world.

Claire Foy is so pretty.

I felt sad when Winston burned his portrait.

Lithgow paces himself incredibly. Every so often just as we begin to forget he always manages to remind us how fantastic an actor he is.

Just binge watched it and God, it killed me. Can't wait to see more. Beautifully done.

Saw the first episode of _Victoria_ and I could not bring myself to see the second. _The Crown_ on the other hand was more engaging and has higher production values. The film score really makes a difference.

He's so much younger than I thought... And an American!! Fantastic job John

His scene in 1:6 I believe, when he is *spoilers* Sick and having to keep the secret from Elizabeth and then caught later in the episode is heart wrenching. His emotional moment with her had me in tears and I knew I had to watch a funny episode of 3rd rock from the sun or Harry and the Henderson’s because I had to know Lithgow was just acting!! It was so real how he portrayed Churchill.

This video was from a time before most of us realized how incredible this show is.

john used to take ballet class with us about 15 years ago( was it that long ago?) and he was so unassuming and quiet. we loved having him there - it was a gift to have him join us. I don't know if he was preparing for a role,or just interested in ballet. good times!

A Brit played "Abraham Lincoln" so I don't think it's insulting that an American played a Brit.

These 2 were absolutely exceptional!!! MAGNIFICENT!!!! BOTH deserve awards. The crown is 1 of my favorite shows. All the actors, of course some more than others, but they all served their roles well! VERY WELL!!!

This series is astonishing. The acting, the writing, the sets, the cinematography and even the title music is by Hans Zimmer

Throughout my life I've seen countless performances of actors portraying Churchill, being a history buff and all. But Lithgow TOPS them all. Every book I read about churchill and every movie I've seen- I pictured the man just how Lithgow portrays him.

The crown was amazing.. both seasons

She's got Bette Davis eyes! She looks like a really pretty version of BD when she was young. She's fabulous in the role on The Crown, they all are

She wasn’t Jewish at all. She was half Huguenot/Scottish and half WASPish, with a claim of some Iroquois ancestry. No Jewish. Also, don’t make a claim and then tell others to look it up when they ask for evidence if you can’t back it up yourself...

John Lightgow made the best impersonation of Churchill that I've ever seen.

I've seen many actors take on Churchill, but John is by far superior. All the mannerisms, all the vocal inflections. He nails it perfectly

I'm addicted to this show lol I finished in 2 days.

Just started viewing The Crown. The first thought in my mind was how could they choose such a tall man to play Churchill? I mean Lithgow is a full 10 inches taller than Churchill was. But when Lithgow started to act on screen I quickly forgot about that detail. He was rhe perfect Churchill. I have seen Lithgow play comedy, murderous villain and now aging statesman, all with the same skill and bravado. He is one of the greatest actors of our time.

Enjoyed this interview, I am a Brit who was brought up by a Scottish mother who imbued me with a high regard for Churchill and of course his oratory, then I read history for 4 year, and since then have researched Churchill for many further years, and I was bowled over by Lithgoe’s performance. Absolutely wonderful , well done sir you are a credit to American acting. Every detail absolutely on target, especially the soul of the man. Bravo

in the tv-show DEXTER season 54 or 5 i guess, he had such a powerfull character "the trinity killer" ...such a big actor !

Such a talented actor - he did a fantastic job. Watch Episode 9 of Season 1 and you'll know why... I thought that was a fantastic display of his abilities as an actor.

John Lithgow was absolutely amazing in the role.....Surely no one could have captured the young Queen better than Claire Foy.

LOVE Claire Foy and John Lithgow! Lithgow pulled off Churchill quite well (although the British may disagree) and really captured the strengths and weaknesses of Sir Winston Churchill. He truly was an incredible statesman. God save the Queen!

Brit here. John Lithgow did a great portrayal of Churchill. From this and other `Crown` interviews you can see that he is held in the highest regard by all the other cast members.

What a great actor Pure class , you could put him in any film or soap and it would be a hit

a magnificent performance, unmatched on television. just watched and had to find somewhere to express my opinion. :)

The British Royal Family (and all of them, in fact, have tremendous drama attached to them. And the British Royal Family has more than its share of drama suitable for Television.

lithgow is a terrific actor loved him all those years ago in 3rd rock from the sun and he was brilliant in that season of Dexter also great as Churchill and yes also Terms of Endearment

They are both brilliant on the show.

This is wonderful show. I enjoyed it very much. I love it that it shows that their lives weren't so glamorous.

Saw John Lithgow at a young age on 30 seconds to Mars which was a hit sitcom. I then saw him on the serial killer thriller show on Showtime, Lexter. Wonderful actor! Seems like Claire Foy is swooning, has utter respect for Mr. Lithgow.

The real life Churchill was a mass murderer who caused the death of millions of Indians in the Bengal famines. But kudos to John Lithgow, exceptional work by this great actor. His portrayal is the best I have ever seen on screen.

Love season 1 and 2 so much esp the casts.

Lithgow put on an outstanding performance; his role and his dedication to serve Queens palace and his strong political views just made it so splendid to watch. And Ms Claire is such a wonderful actress made the Queens role look like a piece of cake! But I’m 100% sure it was not. Great Job!

If anyone is interested you really should check out her portrayal of Anne Boleyn in the BBC adaptation of wolf hall, absolutely stunning performance.
