Hey Ayesha, If you enjoy Haruki Murakami's surreal and introspective storytelling, you might also appreciate the works of Kazuo Ishiguro, particularly "Never Let Me Go" and "The Remains of the Day." Ishiguro explores profound themes with a similar atmospheric and thought-provoking style. And I really enjoy your videos love from kanpur ❤

Thank you for these recommendations, The Blind Owl immediately stands out as something I would like and would surely be adding it to my 'want to read' list. I've never read any Murakami so far and plan to read Kafka on the Shore soon, which I also found through one of your videos and your review sold me on it😊. The only book I've read from the ones you mentioned here is The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas and absolutely loved it, even making it to my favorites. It still baffles me that the book was published in 1881, feels like something way ahead of it's time. And as for a book recommendation for you, I'd like to suggest Dancing on Broken Glass by Ka Hancock, a beautifully nuanced and moving love story at it's core, echoing the drama of human life and the tenderness of romantic and familial relationships in the face of what life brings.

I always have some new insights after reading a Murakami novel and also find them to be incredibly easy to read. It's a rare combo that I have yet to find elsewhere, so I'll definitely take a look at these recommendations. Thanks :)

BOOK READ/REVIEW REQUEST Hey Ayesha & Amreen, honestly I love your passion for reading and inspiring people to read and grow their perspective. I have a book read/review request-there's this Egyptian author, Dr. Mustafa Khatab, whose book "The Clear Quran Series - A Thematic English translation of the Quran," has gone viral on TikTok. The word "Quran" means "Read with understanding and learning" I request you both to read this book as any other book and give your honest, unbiased review and recommendations. Also, please don't approach it as a religious book. Approach it like any other book, steering clear of preconceived notions, and share your insightful review. Looking forward to your perspective!

Great video as always. I'm going to be re reading all of Murakami's novels next year. I read all his novels over a period of a few years but its been a while and I'm ready to get back into his mind. I don't really get on with his short stories but I adore his novels and his non fiction. Thank you for the recommendations. I'll be sure to add some of these in with my Murakami books next year. Blind Owl was the first book I read this year and it is definitely in my top 10 of the year. Snow Country is another favorite of mine. I read it a couple of years ago.

Re-visiting Murakami's works is as enchanting an experience as reading him for the very first time. When I re-read Norwegian Wood, which was the first book of his that I decided to re-read, I read between the lines so much better than the first time. So yeah, I'm sure you'll love the experience too.

Bought my copy of Norwegian Wood 5 yrs ago. Am yet to finish 😢 Kafka on the Shore was a smooth read though. Murakami is the Tolkien equivalent from the East. Also so happy to hear a mention of Umberto Eco. Would recommend you review works by Eco and Günther Graß. Speaking of Indian authors I'm sure you'd love books by Vikram Seth especially An Equal Music. It only gets better with every video, Ayesha. Loved it!

I have read the god of small things! Amazing book. If you enjoyed the shadow lines you should also read Amitav Ghosh's The Shadow Lines. It has a non linear narrative and it felt like someone was retelling the story of their life through memory. Good video.

This is an interesting list of books. The book that felt like a Murakami the most for me was The Architects Apprentice by Elif Shafak. My review/note from reading the book - The writing flows beautifully, weaving a story that spans almost a hundred years, and although the story is a little disjointed the overall experience is lush with emotion, wisdom and insight. I felt like I was reading a book by Haruki Murakami and although it's unfair to make comparisons given both authors have their own style and feel, there is also a similarity, that of exposing thought-provoking ideas and observations in the mundane and routine.

Thank you, Rohit. :) Wow, that's quite a gripping review/description of the book. I had one of her books but I gave it away and didn't even read it. And now, for the life of me, I can't remember which one it was. But I'm surely going to get The Architects Apprentice - sounds like I'd enjoy it!

You can start with Kafka on the shore or Norwegian wood if you like it then go for wind up Bird Chronicle or after dark then dance dance dance then 1Q84 . You can start start with birthday girl its a short story , If you like the test you can start long novels . don't listen to someone just start with Kafka on the shore and if you like it eventually you will like every Murakami's work just go for it .

@diyathebooklover9211 Yes indeed, it's true that his books are uncomfortable to read. That's why I recommend starting with Murakami's more accessible works like 'Norwegian Wood' or 'Kafka on the Shore.' They offer a great entry point into his unique style without diving too deep into the surreal or uncomfortable aspects of his writing. You can also pick 'After Dark' if you want something more easygoing and shorter to read. Also, Murakami's narratives often unfold gradually. So as you delve deeper, the themes will become clearer, offering a richer, more rewarding reading experience. Keep exploring, and you'll find a unique world of insight and perspective!
