@sara almahri ofcourse its a religion. But a trully loving father will love their children no matter what otherwise it is not real love because their children arent happy and live a fake life like Nadia or make bad decisions(drugs) like Omar. This is sad and true life. You can teach your kids your religion, but as a father, if your kids are old enough to not keep following the religion and teachings, he or she should accept it.

Wtf. Have some knowledge before speaking anything about Islam. In Islam it's not written "don't be gay", it's written don't have anal sex. Whether it's gay or straight- don't have anal sex. Nobody said having feelings is wrong. It's natural temptation just like tempting to drink alcohol, etc. But we can't. That's what's written. Even straight Muslims can't have sex before marriage. Besides even if one does sodomize doesn't automatically make him a non Muslim because he/she commited a sin and everyone commits sins whether big or small and only God can judge.

While we all want Omar and Ander to have happy ending, Omar's father isn't a 'narrow minded tyrant'. He's a product of his culture, and is being the best father he knows to be. Not many of us kbow what it's like to leave your home and live among strangers, all in the name of opportunity for your family. Not many of us know what it's like to face misunderstanding and sometimes prejudice and to feel barely tolerated (or worse, unwanted) in the country that has become your new home and the only home your children know. And I'm not trying to make villain of white people either-y'all have built great nations, engines of world growth, exemplars in social change. It's not a question of right or wrong. Just try to look deeper and understand your fellow man.

He is trying to do what is best for his children from HIS PERSPECTIVE. You say to us to put ourselves in his shoes, but that is exactly what he DOESNT do. He doesnt accept his children from who they are and they live a life of lies and bad choices. At one point one as a parent have to accept that his children have a mind of their own. Is he an evil tyrant? No he isnt. Is he a narrowminded tyrant? Ofcourse no doubt. But maybe he can change.
