Those who say that this performance is not good, they even know what is the meaning of this piece? If you want acrobats go to the circus... Tou need to know about the piece first to know if performance is good or not. This is a very good performance of a Liszt Master.

Exactement.

I don't know, why the algorithm shows this interpretation first when searching for Vallee d'Obermann. It is really a very clear performance. But also very boring: tempi really slow, not much dynamic and completely un-romantic. Compared to the only Horowitz-recording available, definitely not an alternative, althought Horowitz has changed some small parts of the score (which Liszt also did quite often in his performances). This is such a colorful work. Arrau often does take-apart the music instead of letting it flow. For me, Horowitz' interpretation is the most interesting one. He works out colors and harmonics, which Arrau just point at. Arrau is playing quite "angular", Horowitz "round" and smoothly. It is common sence, that in romantic music one can vary tempi, dynamics etc. to underline the emotional aspect of music. Horowitz does it perfectly, Arrau plays it like an accountant who counts notes. For me it does not fit to this piece.
