I agree about thinking of the melody before the rhythm and the notes. I myself focus on forming the melody first and practicing the same section until I find it sounding as I intend for it to. I learned this only recently and it really helped me keep my interest in the piece and gave me a good overview on it.

I just finished initially learning this piece and am working on consistency and hitting every note. I completely agree with the focus on shaping the melody in the beginning, end and B major section bc that was a challenge.

It's the cadenzas that really make the piece difficult. There could be an entire video dedicated to just those imo. But with that said, the piece is certainly manageable for anyone who can play intermediate classical repertoire(level 6-7works). Playing it well, however, is another story! The voicing in the latter half takes a lot of practice to get right, but it's very rewarding! Good luck if you decide to learn it :)

Steven Anker it is yeah. I just finished learning it a couple weeks back. Still got a bit of work to do on the first cadenza. My left hand, despite me being left handed, is generally not as great as my right as well, so working a bit on the middle section of the piece

Josh, how about the rhythm of the piece as its in 6/4 and how is it counted or felt as in duple eights or triplet eights. I actually took this piece apart harmonically and us the chords to improvise upon and to play the tune in use that harmony in several different keys by ear. Transposition always works for me. Thanks for your video .

hmmmm ... too much Pedal Sustain... You should really play it without pedal and Hold each note of the melody untill their really end as much as possible First, and then add a bit of pedal WHEN THE SONG IS WELL PLAYED without pedal and still Beautiful. Bass notes at the first page are short on the score, they should not resonate during a full bar. That's why they said, Liszt had Surnatural Technic and ENORMOUS HANDS, because justly he played it as it is on the score and didn't need to hold Sustain all time Try it, and i promise you, you will improve on this song in a really good way and really understand the all things. Also, i see a lot of pianist play this FULL OF TOO MUCH RUBATO ... AND REALLY SLOW .... I see it a little more fast ... Even a little bit more more more fast .. We should not forget that the tempo is Allegro... Have a good day. And do not have any hesitation to talk with me. “….abusing the pedal is only a means of covering up a lack of technique, and that making a lot of noise is a way to drown the music you’re slaughtering!” Claude Debussy

Well the pedal markings were made by liszt. I don't think he has any bad technique to hide. It's also impossible to play many sections without pedal so that doesn't work anyway
