Lister produces 2750W electrical power running on gasified woodchips!

Following a successful spark ignition conversion the 6hp Lister CS type engine now runs happily on wood gas. Electrical power output so far is 2750W at 600rpm.
We kept the compression ratio stock at approximately 17:1 - and it runs smoothly without pre-detonation.
This is the culmination of over 2 years of part time work on this project - and we now have a benchmark and a fully instrumented engine to work from.
We are doing this so that others copy our work - and so potentially millions of small diesel engines running pumps and gensets across the developing world break their ties with petroleum fuel and can be run on gasified biomass.

The much higher compression ratio of the diesel CS, helps it overcome some of the power losses experienced when running a spark-igniton engine on woodgas. Whilst the Lister L series is already spark ignition - I believe it was only rated 5hp at 600rpm - and there may be up to 30% derating when run on woodgas. The CS is easy to convert, by fitting a spark plug into the plug where the compression change over valve fits. These threaded plugs are available from Indiian Listeroid spares outlets
