Jim Newstead and Doom Metal! Two of my favorite things in one video!

My favorite part about this genre is how it can be huge, loud and bombastic and also small, innocent and pretty. It has so much different dynamics, and plays so much with it's own form, while in essence staying true to the core traditions of metal. Doom is a offspring from Black Sabbath, and gladly not only the big, slow, evil and heavy parts stayed with the genre, but also the 70's production has stayed with this genre, and is in a way one of the last genres staying true to the absolutely great 70's production sound. Every instrument is possible to tell apart! Love it!

I love Sanctuary with a passion. It's by far the Elder song I listen to the most, I just can't get enough of it. That ending, good God, is so powerful!!!! It leaves me wishing it went on for a couple minutes longer!!!!

"Some of you will dislike this intensely. But, give it a go..." :draws a deep breath in trepidation: :edit: . . . . That was great! I agree, while heavy, I think the slower pace and pristine vocals is what draws me to it.

I'd been streaming this recently and have now bought a copy of the cd. Really liking this album and probably the thing i've been playing most over the past few weeks. I can hear the Motorpsycho comparisons in some of it which is probably why i like it. Monolord are a similar sounding band though a bit slower, heavier and just a bit more 'doom'. Their 'Rust' album was also released in 2017 (give opening track Where Death Meets The Sea a try - though i think i prefer Elder over Monolord at the moment). Great to see a variety in your playlist/videos. There's been a lot of Yes recently (who i've never clicked with) so good to have something new on the channel. Cheers jim 👍

This album has grown on me alot in recent times and this opener is fab....very Sabbath. A record that has definitely encouraged me to check out more from Elder. Have Lore and G&S Sessions lined up next....oh and Jim have you tried any crazy Norse metal yet? My fave is Amon Amarth....check out Verses The World....and Surter Rising. Both will ensure you grow beard, belly, battle axe and drink large kegs of ale....

@@JimNewstead ya. Me like metal too. Beer. Me drink beer. Listen metal. Eat like Viking. Shark good. Ah Amarth are just full on thrash but entertaining. Their riffage is astonishing....as long as you don't mind the lack of thematic change for songs. To me pure entertainment though. And when the singer says Awaaaaaaaay.....it just makes me giggle.🍻😂

I like this sound - and I'm not even too much into any metal genres. Maybe, because -as Jim pointed out - this sometimes is akin to Motorpsycho, and they are one of my absolute favourite bands.

More than halfway through, and I'm enjoying it immensely so far, rather than despising it intensely. While I continue to listen, I have to ask as I can't remember if we've discussed them before. How familiar are you with the Moody Blues, Jim? I would really love full vinyl listens to their Magnificent Seven albums, from Days of Future Passed through Seventh Sojourn, especially with my favorite by them, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour being the sixth of the seven.

Again, never heard about them. Hooray, real singing. They should have made his voice to stand out more in the remix; I mean louder. Now it’s lost in the music. Not very complicated music; for that, listen to Haken or IQ. The could have used more of the sound spectrum on the electric guitar; most of it is in the lower and lower-middle part. It’s a wall of sound but Devin Townsend does that better. Do I dislike it. No, not at all. Would I buy it? The answer is no, for the reasons mentioned above. I like complicated symphonic and progressive music much more.
