Listen to these Orca whales imitate human speech

As part of the trial, the killer whale was asked to mimic never-before-heard sounds made by other orcas with different dialects from different family groups.
Then, she was made to repeat human words.
In recordings of the experiment, Wikie takes several stabs at "hello". Every time, she voices two syllables with something resembling an "l" in the middle and an "o" at the end.

A mother orca was separated from her baby in captivity, and she attempted to call out for her baby using long distance calls, it was the first time scientists had ever heard such a call, when there was no response she went into a deep depression, and was further punished by pavlovian conditioning, basically "perform for us or you starve", and when orcas are starved, the other orcas don't like it and they attack the one not 'doing their job', this is also talked about in Blackfish, truly heartbreaking. They don't deserve to be locked up for our entertainment.

I was taken to SeaWorld as a very young child, but by the age of 7, I refused to go to the zoo or any place holding animals captive. The exception is legit rehabilitation or sanctuary facilities., in order to help them take care of the animals. I have always loved animals so much, and when you spend time with with them and observe them, you come to know that they have their own intelligence, personality, and their own community and ways. I think humans are at our greatest when we are aware that the Earth is their home too, and we have a responsibility to Earth, and all life on Earth, not just ourselves. The negative things we do reverberate and have domino effects. They deserve unpolluted habitat to live in without trash, plastic, or chemicals and they certainly deserve to live their lives and not be our slaves. We should care for them because it's our duty and because it heals us too. They have become victims of our self-centered and sociopathic societies. They deserve so much better and we should be so much better!

So ... if you meow at a cat, or bark at a dog, are you doing it because you're legitimately trying to communicate with them...? Because I certainly don't, and neither do most other people. We do it for amusement. We don't expect for a second that the cat or dog will actually understand our intentions just because we're mimicking a sound we regularly hear them make. Why assume differently for cetaceans? Do you also think that parrots - notorious for mimicking human speech for no particular reason - are actually trying to communicate with us? Sorry but it just doesn't make much sense. They're just copying sounds they're hearing us make

@@Biketunerfy So ... if you meet a person whose language you don't speak (and let's pretend for the sake of argument that you have no resources at your disposition such as Google Translate or dictionaries) ... you're going to attempt to communicate with them by ... mimicking words they say, which you don't even know the meaning of...? Because, I'm sorry, but that's really not going to work. You'd both have to use gesticulation, and point at relevant objects, in order to make each other understand what certain words mean, which you obviously can't do with a cat or dog, nor can a cetacean do it with you. The idea of interspecies communication is actually one of my biggest fascinations, but just mindlessly mimicking the sounds the other is producing is really not going to lead to any sort of mutual understanding, not even in the most rudimentary capacity. I don't understand how this could possibly not be self-evident. The dog obviously has no way of knowing what you're thinking when you're barking at it, and you obviously have no way of knowing what the whale is feeling while it's trying to copy the sound of "byebye" or "one-two". It obviously has no way of knowing what those sounds mean. They're just sounds to them, just like a dog's bark is just a bark to you.

What's really mind-blowing is that there is a possibility the whales are somewhat as intelligent as us and this high pitches scream of theirs is part of a language. Can you imagine that? And I love it! Too bad I will miss it happening...such a great "story" and we'll miss the end. Unless...there's just a veil after all, and we do get "live" on.

.@@ingriddoerksen9518 We will miss nothing, we incarnated, so we COULD be a part of it.. thats why the population explosion over the past few decades around the world.. the many beings of light from the past waited until the earth was in this stage, so they can be here when IT transforms.. its why system's are falling and so called "leaders" are being seen for what they are.. the dark. And we're no longer putting up with it!

How marvellous it is, that we could be in such a wonderful time as this, seeing and hearing something as beautiful as this, countless millions before us, never did and many more won’t. Thank you to this channel. Shame, that as we advance into our own annihilation through greed and ignorance, we leave behind something we may never fully appreciate. In all the known universe, we might be the only organism able to bear witness to the vastness of existence. Yet we are so blind to everything.
