I'd say Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique or Mats Hummels when they were in their prime are perfect examples.

Honestly, there is no flaws in Martinez game. I'm so happy we have him at Man Utd, he's a revelation and I'm saying it now that he's going to be one of the best centre backs of his generation. Flawless player and I actually enjoy watching him defend he is that good. His passion, energy, ball playing ability is everything us Man Utd fans have been crying out for.

Martinez is an outstanding player, could easily play as a defensive midfielder, great timing, control of the ball, spectacular passing ball medium/long range, aggressive and strong personality. A complete footballer

He could even play offensive midfield....he is so fast, and has a short electric dribbling style that could unbalance the lines. Anyways, a real soccer warrior, and a true reflection of whats going on in the argentina national squad and the idea they want to promote based on how they are and how they play since the beginning at their home based league...average low height, very physical and disputed midfield game, with lots of agression to recover the ball as soon as possible, no matter the position they play. Yet with solid passing and strong creativity sparks when having the ball, which can really sofocate rivals. Lisandro was raised on a really dangerous, humble and marginated corner, and the style he developed around that context, definitley has that signature, just as Aguero and Tevez, to take premier league examples.

Besides, "soccer" sounds so fucking lame, not gonna call it that way ever again.... Here it is "futbol", or "fulbo" as you might have heard messi, aguero or tevez calling it hahah.

My favourite United player now. I have a soft spot for these types of players that have a nasty side, give their all for the team and fall in love with the club. I felt the same way about Ander Herrera when he joined United.

I can see him changing the way we look at CB going forward. Don’t need to be tall to be good just need to have heart and composure. He is a dream in any possession based team.

I was thinking the same thing. Forwards are so explosive now and some of these towering defenders aren't exactly fleet footed. Licha at his height is agile, and his football IQ is exceptional. He's a problem, and on top of that he has some ball skills and is able to play some very nice passes. Guy is a jack of all trades somehow

And even better, he has the calmness to stay put. What a player!

He remind us a lot of the things from Cannvaro and Puyol, height is just the number. If you win the abilities, you will win the ball. Can't imagine if Bailly come back from Marseille and Ten Hag will use 3 back with Varane, all of this 3 CB have similar potentials, aggressive and pace defendet. Btw it's to early to judge, he's still 24 years old and still far to reach his real potential, hopefully he'll show more than this at more higher stage in his career.

For someone who goes into tackles with such aggression and commitment his timing is so good.

I love the no nonsense defending he just gets the ball off players and quick passing to the midfielders, no messing about taking ages to pass he just gets rid of the ball away from the box as quickly as possible. Maguire please learn from this guy

There isn't a single defender in the premier league that gets even close to Licha's playing Nobody is showing that level of intensity, sure there are some putting their bodies on the line just as much, and yes there are a few who are controlling their area of the pitch, but none of them come close to Licha's sheer dominance and aggression. I hate having to use him as a comparison because in my opinion if a player is doing really well they shouldn't be compared to anyone but themselves, but Cannavaro was the last time I have seen someone play that intensely at a back line
