    something i took away from it was that it was also a critique of romanticization, as the step sister’s reaction to her mothers disappearance, alongside her shock and horror after the “cool” guy was murdered (and even when lisa tried to comfort her in the car) was a glimpse at the reality of the situation and how it’s not just a campy fun world, it’s real consequences.

    Cole Sprouse in the Suspenders reminded me of Sweeney Todd when that character(Victorian corpse) was holding an axe

    Oh my god we had the same comment regarding the reactions of the cast! Only Taffy was reacting realistically 🤣 But i thought maybe that was a director’s/actor’s choice. Lisa and the monster have a different reality thus not reacting the same way as Taffy does. You can see in Taffy’s frames the heaviness and the change of tone but when we go back to Lisa’s frames it’s all colorful and beautiful and camp!

    I still have a hard time today watching Robin Williams movies because his death hit me so hard. I have never felt a celebrity loss like that. I felt like he made my childhood and losing him was like losing a very much loved part of that. I cried for days.

    "I saw it by myself and got a little snack" SAME. I love Jennifer's Body and Carla Gugino but still had low expectations, and just ended up having a fun time.

  • @nicholetaylor7563
    @nicholetaylor75633 ай бұрын

    To be honest, I found Lisa Frankenstein is similar to Jennifer's Body. Jennifer's Body and Lisa Frankenstein both use fashion to show the descent into evil. With Lisa becoming more outlandish but girly with her fashion choices when she becomes evil and same with Jennifer Check when her outfits become girlier it shows her descent into evil. There is a close relationship between two female characters like Needy and Jennifer with Lisa and Taffy. The roles of who turns evil is reversed. Both the kills in Lisa Frankenstein and in Jennifer's Body are done in the sake of the plot, each kill is intentional while in a film like Friday the 13th the kills are sporadic and random. They also both have plots that have deal with SA. I can see how people do not think they are like one another but, to me, they are pretty similar.

    Since you mentioned there were no callbacks to Jennifer’s Body as far as you were aware, there is one that I noticed that might be a bit of a stretch, but both movies featured a different cover of I Can See Clearly Now - in Lisa Frankenstein during her ~trip~ and in Jennifer’s body when Kyle Gallner was driving to his fate.

  • @Foxy-ve1oh

    @Foxy-ve1oh

    I noticed that! Its also not a callback but I feel like some of the jokes were in vein of Jennifer's body like they would fit right into that movie if they were put in there

    I loved Lisa Frankenstein so much! I'm not usually one for campy horror comedies, but this one was different. I loved the late 80s vibes, genuinely what it was like in the late 80s, not campy 80s..the soundtrack was phenomenal, and the comedy wasn 't over the top in my opinion. My favorite part was Lisa's dream sequence which you didn't mention! I thought it was beautifully shot, artsy without being annoying, and it totally gave smashing pumpkins tonight tonight music video vibes. I went in to this movie not expecting too much, and came out 5/5 stars for me :)

    As a person who was a child in the 80s, I'm finding more and more ridiculousness in how the 80s are portrayed. SO much of it looks like a parody of Parker Lewis Can't Lose sets, which itself was a west coast parody of the very late 80s. So I feel you as far as 80s exhaustion goes.

    I’m not sure if this movie was marketed as a limited release everywhere. Here in LA it was advertised as in theater’s February 9th only so I figured I would miss it but it ended up being in theaters still come valentine’s day and it was a great holiday theater experience. I thought it was beautifully paced, had a simple good story line and the actors really brought it together regardless how important the part. I loved the casting for the dad. I could see this movie having the potential of being the next hocus pocus as a yearly holiday cult classic.

    Love this video!! I loved this movie so much I went back to watch it with my girlfriend and we casual-cosplayed the main couple. I liked the movie for many reasons but the main ones were the way both Lisa and The Creature are relatable in a similar way to how Lydia Deetz is (for me it's the whole being seen as weird but then finding someone who gets you), the camp and soundtrack, and of course the multiple references to horror and post-punk. I have a similar taste to yours except I love 80s camp/dark comedy. I was the target audience (I rewatch Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, RHPS, and Corpse Bride a lot) so I knew I would love it ever since the first trailer came out. Also, I totally agree on wanting 2000's period pieces, although they make me feel old.

    1:28 I'm so glad to hear someone else say and acknowledge that! Because I made a comment on a video about comedians and actors. I said something along the lines of I love Robin Williams and Jim Carreys work. They are one of my favorite parts about my childhood. & RIP to Robin Williams. & some troll commented, "ugh yuck! I bet you're the type to think screech is the best character in saved by the bell." I made a retort back listing all my favorite movies from them both. Saying you're telling me you don't like ANY of these movies. Well those 2 actors are nostalgic for me and bring me back to a simpler time in my life. A time where those movies really brought me so much joy. & how What Dreams May Come just hits so much different now. & that they can be a troll because it tells me all I need to know about them and how they are as a person. Definitely not someone I want to be or interact with. I don't know if they ever commented back. I don't frankly care. I said my response back and they can go on being negative & miss out on truly great movies. I also was affected by Robin's death. Normally celebrity deaths don't get to me because I don't actually know them. But people like Robin Williams really did get to me and I cried as well. & I'm not a crier. But it's the loss knowing we'll never get another movie, another show, another anything with him. & that hurt realizing but I'm also thankful we have so much to rewatch and appreciate. It also hurt knowing how he went and that he was becoming to the point he couldn't remember his lines and stuff. Which from what I read he was excellent at doing before. Usually the funniest people are going through the most inside. So it's sad to know he couldn't get over that obstacle. I wish he could've somehow been in the live action Aladdin as well. Genie just isn't genie without him. Rest in peace to a hilarious beautiful soul 🩵

    Personally my one gripe about the 1989 setting is while the bold colors and patterns were certainly in at that time, they go and have Lisa looking like Madonna although the dressing like Madonna fad was already long over, so that just felt out of place. But no one else is going to care I bet.

    I just watched it, and honestly, I had a lot of fun with it.. I only had a few notes, but they're nitpicky. I thought the SA at the party was telegraphed. Lisa gets drugged and something bad is going to happen. So glad that creep got what was coming to him. But I did feel uncomfortable at that, and that it really wasn't needed, outside of setting up future events. Second, the trailer left me thinking that she and The Creature (as named in the closed captioning) were going to be a couple from his resurrection onward. But when they did come together, I smiled. Finally, I could have used more gore, but this is more the gore hound in me. I did appreciate how they ended it. You could certainly use this as a jumping off point for a sequel, or leave it and the ending would be satisfying. Overall, I really liked it, I had fun with it, and who knows? Maybe after another couple of viewings I'll love it I, too gave it a 3.5 out of 5 possible chainsaws.

    My movie review will be up by tonight as one of the original kids behind this production, discussing the real life themes and stuff that was going on at the time, & some of the techniques used in the horror comedy genre, and music choices and why we chose these songs and such. Some of the symbolism used and the funny stories behind some of the funny moments and jokes. One scene had me busting up laughing for 20 minutes. Such a great film. Worthy of some awards. Keep in mind kids did this.

    Zelda Williams voiced Kuvira in Legend of Korra, the “sequel” show to Avatar The Last Airbender which I think you’d absolutely enjoy watching!! It IS an animation and was for children technically but after the first few episodes/1st season, it really ramps up the masterful story and intelligent concepts and is such a beautiful show! I really love the movie, it's got a special place in my heart- I'm obsessed. And when I saw the SA scene, all I could think of is how realistic it is. I was a teenager in the 80s, and that kind of thing happened all the goddamn time. It was a lighter version of what happened more often than I care to recall, sometimes to guys, too, and I was glad they included it, and as they did, because it was so common for the era, and they did it in a way that was not as upsetting as it could have been. I often find SA scenes totally unnecessary, this one was different. I'm sure there are people who never experienced it in the era, and I'm happy for them. That said, there are a couple friends I've known since the 80s whom I'd have to warn... because their SA happened at parties in much the same way.

    I am absolutely the audience for this movie, and I feel extremely similar to you about it, so there's that. About the only thing I disagree with is that I feel like the movie paid homage to Burton films (like Beetlejuice) without actually being anything like any of them. It felt more like Death Becomes Her meets Drop Dead Fred to me with a tiny sprinkling of A Series of Unfortunate Events (mostly in underlying tone).

    Eh, the 2000s seem not that long ago to be nostalgic about just yet except maybe very early on... like Britney Spears circa 2000 and no later lol. Plus, we still need more 90s nostalgia. Then again, I'm not tired of movies set in the 80s, I would still like a better throwback to Jem and the Holograms. That movie didn't do them justice. Also, whatever happened to the Thunder cats movie? I don't know what it is, but some of my fave books and TV shows have had horrible adaptations. I need a better one of The Circle please, I adored that series and the TV show was so disappointing. Same for Mortal Instruments, although the writing was admittedly questionable for those books, but I love the premise overall. Part angel humans in modern day New York that hunt demons hiding in plain sight?? Vampires, werewolves, fae, and other beings walk among us but disguised? I'm so sad that it's hard enough to get an adaptation at all, and we'll probably never see proper ones at this point.

    As someone who was a teen in the 80s, I’m sorry that you weren’t there, because it was awesome and such a happy, wonderful time!! my 17 year-old daughter absolutely loved the fashion and the home decor in the movie. I told her she should’ve lived during the 80s. Also, the funny thing was that she didn’t get some of the slang. Like when the sister said mom is having a cow about the bathroom - she was completely confused !😅😅

    this is very very campy. which honestly adds to the 80s vibe cause a lot of 80s movies looking through modern lenses are veyr campy lol

    If you've seen Cole Sprouse in Riverdale, then he's as great an actor as he's ever been. Superb.

    Seriously, sooo much potential, and it was a mish mosh of blah! none of it made sense. All the components of a greatnes, and it falls flat.

    I can't look at the screen for this video. Why do you surround yourself with all this stuff. I might watch this in its entirety. have a GOOD day (I dunno how you could with all this content swirling around you).

    I dunno that's a lot actually. A person in pain, probably won't end well...then he shirt is some demonic disfigured creature...I just wonder what ppl can think about when they have all that stuff around them? What does it revolve around? Maybe it causes issues that's all.

    Watched it for the cast especially Liza Soberano. Low expectations cos it’s a directorial debut but prepared for a fun ride because of the cast and the plot. And I ended up enjoying it! 🤍 I love that you reviewed this!
