My friends and I went to see Luther Vandross in concert when we were teenagers, and I think Lisa was still singing backup for him at that time. He brought her out to sing with him, and I think he might have even had her sing this while he went back stage for a costume change, and she just blew me away. I had to get her album with this song on it, I was just so stunned that we weren't hearing more of her on the radio. @PurelyAfrican She never wanted a solo career in the first place. Luther Vandross pushed her to record So Intense when she was still singing background for him. She was still touring with him singing background even when this song was charting at it's highest. I attended that Luther show at the time, and she would back him up for most of the show. Then he would pull her out to do a set of her songs in the midst of the show before she would head right back to her background mike. If you think she sounds good here, you should have heard her live then. She exceeded the recorded track!!

I remember I went to a Luther concert and there she was, singing background for him, and this was not that long AFTER she had her big hit. It was weird...it was like, here's this person who's kind of a star too, yet she's just in the background behind Luther. Same thing happened when I saw George Michael, and Deon Estus was back playing bass for him, shortly after he'd had his one big hit.

She deserved so much bigger accolades - her voice is astounding and she has such great control of it.

@PurelyAfrican No, she quit. Just off this one song. She won several awards. She didn't want a solo career so she went back to doing background work.

@@sonocoleichesono2888 Lisa Fischer didn't care for the limelight; so, after her solo album was released in 1990, she won a Grammy and went back to what she loved most...being a background singer. She had a long, successful career doing so. She sang background for Luther Vandross for 22 years (1982-2005) and with Rolling Stones for 26 years (1989-2015). She did her last show with the Stones in 2015 and has performed as a solo artist since then.
She is BIG! Look her up! Luther and Rolling Stones!! She was one of the highest paid session singers. Look her up and still has a voice!!
Classically trained
Nice to see young people rediscovering amazing artists back when we were growing up. Lisa won the Grammy in 1992 for Best R&B performance by a female artist with this song. It was fantastic year for female artists. Ms. Fisher never really liked the limelight, even with her success as a solo female artist, she preferred being a back-up singer to some of her superstar friends (Luther Vandross and the Rolling Stones). No joke..real deal..love Lisa Fischer!
Lisa Fisher is the undisputed heavyweight champion of voice clarity, control, and range. This recording, in my humble opinion, far exceeds the recording for radio play. Lisa Fisher, Phyllis Hyman, Minnie Ripperton, Whitney Houston, Rachelle Ferrell, Mariah Carey, Chante Moore, Patti Labelle-these heifers will run up and down the melodic scale, moving from head to chest voice, all while a few of them able to throw in a whistle tone only to leave their audiences captivated by the skills within their craft. Lisa is a force of reckoning-STILL
Lisa Fischer is a vocal Queen 👑💖
Legendary, classic, class act, class of her own amazing
She is a vocal beast and vocals are legendary. Crazy how she spent her career doing backing vocals and session work. She is amazing and one of my faves. A lot of the singers coming through the 80’s and 90’s was just this amazing because the live vocals was the big reveal as to why you were signed to a major label.

To have the ability to listen to a generation of music other than your own and appreciate it, is a blessing not only to the "old school" but for yourself. I am thankful that Jah blessed her with that voice and not me cause I wouldn't know how to act! I would cut up. That's just how her voice make you feel. Her voice makes you happy and "WISH" you could sing. That being said, "Thank You" for actually having a REACTION and not just telling people to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE.
