The Diocese of Lira has been chosen to lead the 2015 Uganda Martyrs day celebrations slated for June 3, 2015. The Theme for this year’s celebration is “Called to be witnesses of Christ in the family and in the society”. However, the Rt.Rev. Joseph Franzelli the Bishop Lira Diocese has security personnel to ensure the safety of those who will attend the celebrations in Namugongo. The General Secretary of Uganda episcopal Conference Catholic Secretariat Monseigneur also noted that the Catholic Church in Uganda is not yet aware of the due date of the Pope’s visit though they are still patiently anticipating it. The Preparations and actual celebrations of the Martyrs day has been estimated to cost at least 300 million shillings.
