Liquid Gold: Urine as Garden Fertilizer?

One of the best garden fertilizers you can't get at Home Depot, or Tractor Supply...
It's not made in China...
You make it yourself! Every day... Multiple times per day.
That's right... It's your own urine.
Here are some other things I mix with my urine fertilizer and feed my plants for awesome results:
Protein Nitrogen (my #1 favorite) even better than urine because plants can update it directly:
www.kelp4less.com/shop/protei...
Kelp Extract with fulvic and humic acid:
www.kelp4less.com/shop/fulvic...
Kelp has over 74 trace minerals necessary for plants to perform hundreds of enzymatic reactions.
Fulvic and humic acid help roots uptake nutrients with greater efficiency, and prevent nutrient lock out caused by pH problems.
Enjoy growing more abundant harvests, faster growth, and reduced pest problems with urine and these awesome fertilizers.
Keep growing,
James~

As far as the city water, I fill up a 5 gallon bucket with water, and let it sit until the next day, before watering my (bucket) garden. That way, some of the chemicals can evaporate out, but also, the water warms up to be a similar temperature to my garden buckets.

Yep, great practice to off-gas chlorine. This won’t however filter chloramines, so check if your city adds them to the water 💪 if so, vitamin C or carbon filtration should work.

Chlorine can be removed that way, but many municipalities also use chlorimine to treat tap water, and it doesn't disapate that way. An RV water filter will remove it, though. They can be screwed right onto your hose or hose bibb.

Good question. There's no difference as far as health goes. Using fresh urine will act as more of a "slow release" fertilizer. Aged urine will be more readily available for microbes to break down. Unless fermenting, 6 months is not necessary for the incubation period. 2 weeks is more than enough. That's it! Keep growing.

If you have a nasty weed, like a patch of poison ivy, where you would prefer to be able to venture safely, undiluted urine is a great way to kill it. I remember an account of someone letting their going children whee on the tree where poison ivy grew. The poison ivy died. The tree was fine, since it has far more extensive routes.

I have found that the sodium content in urine isn’t high enough to have an impact. It merits more research depending on diet of the per donor though. Kelp extract has the benefit of all the trace minerals from sea salt without the salt. If you’re making your own kelp extract, a tea with two washes to extract salt water is advisable prior to brewing/fermenting to make extract.

@@JamesFryGrowEverywhere It all depends on the diet of the urine contributor. That has been studied. Nitrogen content also varies by diet. That said, i don't deal with the urine for my uses but I would deal with the salt if I was putting high volumes of urine in one place regularly and not pulling up the plants.

Just remember, human urine has a high salt content. For women, a pool noodle on the rim of a 5 gal bucket works well. Fun fact: if you are a meat eater, your urine can help repel herbivores. Sorry vegans but yours won't work for that. Male urine is better than female urine. The actual rate of mix is 10:1 water to urine for mature plants and 20:1 for seedlings. Ascorbic Acid will remove chlorine and chloramine. You can hook up an RV water filter to your garden hose to remove bad things. You can buy and use commercial fertilizers that do not contain nitrogen. Phosphorous, Potash, soil sulfur, Epsom salt, Azomite, etc. If you use potting soil you must add those into the soil plus some form of nitrogen or the plants will starve. Potting soil basically has nothing in it.

  • @JamesFryGrowEverywhere

    @JamesFryGrowEverywhere

    6 ай бұрын

Good stuff. However two things: 1. What do you base male urine being better than female urine on? Apart from hormones (which don't impact plants) the nutrient quality is the same. 2. I don't mess with commercial fertilizers. You can get bio-available phos, potassium, sulfur, etc from organic sources... but those are different videos ;-)

@@JamesFryGrowEverywhere I did research into urine a couple years ago. Male urine is a lot more concentrated (in the mornings anyway). This comes from animals marking their territory. Females not so strong so as to not attract predators. Also different mineral makeup rates too. Males generally eat more red meat than females too. In male urine, a metabolized component of that red meat can help drive off herbivores. Can't remember the protein released. A study was done with old women using birth control pills in their plant water. It did impact the plants a bit causing them to flower more. Unfortunately for those old women, Dr's won't prescribe those pills to them as there was no medical reason to do so. My wife's potted plants use potting soil that has nothing in it so she uses Miracle Grow just for those annuals. Plants I do only get minerals, urine, and Alaska Fish Fertilizer. Oh and fall leaves with used coffee grounds when I can get them. Plants I do are food producing. 1/2 of them are sub irrigated (in laundry baskets sitting in unused oil change drain pans). Other 1/2 either in grow bags, direct planting, or in 4 straw bales (which I found out are poisoned with Grazon so nothing grows for long). Been over a year now and those bales are just now breaking down. EASY to see if they need water and easy to fill. That system also helps prevent crawling insects from attacking my plants (those won't or can't swim). I have in the past made comfrey tea. However, due to extreme drought and very HOT summers (record heat), most of my comfrey plants died. I used to treat tap water with ascorbic acid to eliminate chloramine. Then switched to an RV inline water filter to do the job. That is used for plants in the ground. Rain water for everything else. Sorry about the rambling lol
