Lipsey's Video Review: Ruger American Generation II Rifle

Спорт

Jason and Dale had a great time putting some rounds down range with the new Ruger American Generation II rifle. This Ruger rifle boasts the American accuracy but takes things up a notch with new features like the three-position safety, adjustable stock, and spiral-fluted barrel. Fantastic improvements on a fan-favorite, proven platform.

Price point. They had some barrel issues in their M77s back in the day. Some weren’t very accurate at all. Now they have the hammer forged and they are tack drivers.

@@jh5869 yeah back in the 80’s it was Ruger roulette wether you were getting a good barrel or not. I’ve yet to see a new one that didn’t shoot well. I think if they spiced things up a little with carbon Patel offerings and a better stock option they’d compete with any of the other manufacturers in sales

I have two tang safety M77's, a standard in .30-06 and an International in .243. These are beautiful rifles that will steadily in crease in value. The American series is a fine, accurate rifle but I can see no pride in owning one. The American does it's job reliably like any well made tool and like a good hand tool, not the kind of object that you remove from it's resting place simply to admire it's beauty. BTW, the 30-06 was purchased in 1981 and is the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. I was lucky in this respect as early Rugers had barrels from different suppliers, some were good others poor.

The accuracy of the Gen I barrel was so impressive; although the cycling for me kinda sucked, and the fit of the magazine also sucked. Man, fingers crossed they maintained the level of accuracy while fixing the cycling and magazine fit. It will be an absolute banger of a hunting rifle.

The M77 is classic, with no need of updating. they are perfect the way they are, so called "modern twists" will only mess them up. Current models have a bulbous and hideous muzzle break on the end of the barrel that's ghastly to behold. Additionally, the new M77's come with a screwed on picatinny rail in lieu of the standard Ruger rings. The picatinny rail is an eyesore and completely unnecessary.

After owning and firing RUGER firearms for over 70 years, I believe they continue to innovate. HOWEVER I DID NOT HEAR OR READ .350 LEGEND AS WE HAVE TESTED AND FIRED EVERY ITERATION , SS, BOLT, AR, and REVOLVER. THIS MODEL WOULD BE THE RUGER AMERICAN I WOULD PURCHASE FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS BASED ON THE SMOOTHER ACTION AND ADDITIONAL UPGRADES FOLKS HAVE REQUESTED SINCE RUGER AMERICAN WAS INTRODUCED. 6.5 Grendel is coming Q1 of 2024 in both the Standard (gray 20” barrel) and Ranch (tan 16” barrel). I doubt you’re going to see 6.8 SPC…that cartridge has kind of died in popularity. Not that it’s a bad cartridge…just not enough people buying it to support the need to make rifles chambered in it

They’re not going to take the time or added cost to mold a channel in for a separate trigger guard…if they were going to it would’ve been done as an upgrade to this model. Little details like that are why Tikka T3x’s are more $$$ than these guns for just a plain black stock, blued barrel and no threaded barrel. Gotta take the good with the bad…how often have you ever seen a trigger guard get damaged? How often do you drop your rifle? Plus, if you did drop it and it broke, I bet if you called Ruger and told them what happened they’d probably have you send you rifle in to be checked over and I bet a new stock would be installed.

That 2” of barrel isn’t a big deal…I cut 4” off my 308 to run a suppressor and lost about 80 fps, confirmed on a chronograph…so on average 15-20 fps per inch…the old myth/rumor was 40-50 fps per inch…I didn’t care I wanted short to run a can…after chronographing the results post cut I’m so glad I didn’t listen to internet BS that wasn’t true

If you’re hunting such thick brush maybe consider one of the other chamberings that uses a different style mag/mag release. The 300 BLK is great at short distance and it uses AR mags with an AR style mag release. Their 450 Bushmaster also has its own mag and release.

I personally prefer a flush, or nearly flush (Tikka T3x is ok) mag on my hunting rifles…but I’ve been looking at a Ranch version of these in 300 BLK for a short and suppressed fun gun…maybe hunt with it too, albeit with supers, not subs

Back when the American was a 300 dollar gun was good value but Ruger keeps upping the price and adding a few tweaks to it and upper the price. Ive had 2 Americans got rid of both. The last was the Go Wild version. After i got it i reliazed i could had gotten a Tikka for about 100 more i was shocked. Guess just depends on what ya want in a gun. Threaded barreels and fluteing are just gimicks to get people to part with more moeny IMO. Theirs no real need for either in a hunting rifle. I can see where the fluted barrel may be something someone might want. Ive been hunting for over 50 years and have never seen the need for it in the hunting woods. Yes i used to walk my ass off in hunting season so i no what its like to carry a 9 pound gun around all day. Id still poney up the money for the Tikka over the RA. In the end you still have the RA action wich is just a really cheap vesion of a Tikka. As i said in the end you can still get a basic Tikka T3 for similar price wich is still 10 times the gun the RA is but each to their own.@@scotteger6271

@@tazdog4528 guess you’ve never hunted with a suppressor…game changer…I thought they were stupid until I had the chance to hunt with a friend using one. Neither of us had ringing ears when he shot and the two deer that were standing together, the one that didn’t drop didn’t even move after the shot. It gave me an opportunity to harvest an animal that same hunting trip and was an eye opener for me. If you’re going to have a barrel thick enough to support a suppressor you’re likely going to see fluting. It reduces weight but keeps the barrel as stiff as it would’ve been before it was fluted, but is less heavy.
