    I went through this struggle a while ago and found the "Gartpot" batteries on Amazon fit most of my Tamiya's. They're the right length, plus the wires and balance leads come out of the center of the pack.

    I must say that when you are looking for a LiPo battery with a Tamiya connector there is far less choice. I am still running NiMH on my Tamiya cars and indeed even on my latest crawler, a Cross-RC AT4V, I have stuck with a NiMH battery simply to get compatibility of equipment across my RC collection. It is such a pain to have lots of different connectors, especially when you have a collection with multiple different RC car brands. Call me old fashioned but a high spec NiMH battery still works for me in most applications. Having said that, I am really tempted to use a LiPo on the AT4V as it is a good spec truck, what do you think?

  • @poorboysrc

    @poorboysrc

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think you should try lipo out, the power difference is really outstanding and the larger battery capacities are great in certain rigs. I tried using a nimh to film my Traxxas Sledgehammer video a couple weeks ago and the lack of power was numbing. I've become so accustomed to lipo power it's hard to go back. Give it a try, I think you'll love it.

  • @poorboysrc

    @poorboysrc

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for commenting. I tried measuring the battery space on my 2012 Egress and it's really tough to measure... It's an odd way of mounting a battery in a chassis, kind of have to slide it beneath the upper deck and between two support posts. I couldn't get a good measurement, but I can say that a conventional 6-cell nimh pack fits with ease. I have a 4000mah 2S lipo shaped like a rounded nimh pack and it drops right in. My 5000mah hard case 2S lipos will not fit. My 4200mah 2S shorty lipo will fit. So basically any battery shaped like the old style round packs will drop right in. 👊

    Many of the vintage tamiya kits needs the weight of a nimh pack. I use nimh packs in all my vintage cars from Tamiya, HPI and Losi.. And a silvercan or other mild motors do not need a lipo in my opinion.

  • @poorboysrc

    @poorboysrc

    2 жыл бұрын

    Pretty sure that kit comes with the TBLE02S esc, which is lipo compatible. Only issue is that it doesn't have low voltage detection, so you'll need to either run a separate voltage detector with alarm, or ( do what I do) and as the performance starts to drop a little, I remove the battery and put in a fresh one. 👊

    @JimBoBJames-no5db

    Answer is really easy. Just use a shorty battery and if needed a little foam padding to stop the battery moving around in the battery compartment. I've found reedy wolfpack 2 S lipo is 95 mm long and slim enough to fit , plus gens ace make a redline 2 S lipo that is 95 mm long and fits plus it's 130C discharge rate . And NXE battery's make a shorty lipo 2 S battery that fits also. Plus many others , you just need to look around. Most of these batteries use bullet connectors on battery which changes to deans plug ate end of battery cable where it connects to ESC. And on an open type bathtub chassis that's not going to be a problem. Quite a performance boost over nickel metal hydride batteries and the runtime is hugely increased. Nickel metal hydride batteries might give 5-8 minutes running time on a charge and that's pretty much a waste or time and money when recharging the nickel metal hydride battery. Like paying for expensive electricity for a battery that only lasts 5 minutes. I get over 30 minutes run time on my Super Hot Shot with Tamiya super stock RZ motor running a 2 S 4500C nvision lipo battery.the car gives 44-45 kmh or 26 mph. The nvision battery is 138mm long and won't fit rerelease Tamiya Hornet or Grasshopper. And when I switched back to nickel metal hydride just to compare the difference the nickel metal gave me 5 minutes then was dead. 👎 Screw nickel metal hydride batteries. Go lipo for sure 1000% you won't regret it 👌💪👍 the Hornet battery compartment is 136mm + or - 1mm long x 50mm wide x 25mm high. Just find a battery that fits these dimensions.
