I do agree her lips aren't a good example and she also just didn't do it well but this technique gives the illusion that your lips continue but the lipstick fades (blurred on purpose) there's better examples out there

Most do have a cupid's bow, it comes in different variety and sizes. The M arches on the upper lip aligns to the philthrum giving the cupid bow look. Overlining on lips in general usually only works on internet cuz you can’t see the border of the lips. That’s why you probably only see people with big lips to begin with overlining their lips.

Not really. I have small lips and I overlined once and immediately when my friend came over she said “hey did you overline your lips ???” I barley overlined them over my actual lips and it looked okay in the mirror. It’s noticeable on all lips big or small ( except with a good concealer on the lips or on the corners and ridges)

Over lining lips isn't exclusive to one lip shape and that might be the vibe that some people will big lips are going for when they over line

Yeah overlining doesn't look good if your lips already have filler in them lol but the underlining technique looks really nice

Not even true. Naturally big lips follow the same technique.

In her case specifically, it's also because she had a pretty rounded bottom lip, so if you mimick that shape on the top lip, it looks completely disconnected

I prefer “overlip” the Korean technique where they use a pencil brush with either lipstick or eyeshadow and blend it on the edges of your lips(I recommend powder blush)

The trick is actually to give yourself a sharp Cupid’s bow (even if there isn’t one naturally) and then underline in the corners. This will give you the definition you want without your already full lips looking overlined or messy!

Actually lip shape plays a huge role in how you should line *but thanks for offering this alternative view it made a point and is easy to see now why we should reconsider that and i appreciate this video look and you did a great job! looks awesome on you! just wont work for people who dont have as full and beautiful lips as you do

i like the messy lip look ngl.. but what i do occasionally is put lipstick just between my cupid’s bow and on the very bottom of my bottom lip, then blend it. its subtle and i rly like it bc it’s not noticeable

This is what I do my lip border isn’t super defined so liner looks messy. I actually VERY lightly dry dab with a red matte lip stain and gloss or moisturizer over the top. It’s like gorgeous

I've never seen over lined lips look good in person, it only looks good on camera.

Thank you so much! I’m glad you made this because not many people talk about it and I looked so dumb trying to do what was popular whenever I first tried using lip products. Because of this I never wore lipstick even though I wanted to. My lips are the same. I have full lips that don’t have any definitive line at all, so lining my lips or wearing lipstick in the popular way just doesn’t look good on me. I only ever do a gradient look like this, now.

Girl you have the most luscious lips I've ever seen, I have one line like I was drawn by 4 year old. I have to overline my lips.

If you overline your lips and it looks "messy" just grab a flat brush and tiny bit of concealer and tidy up the bits that look out of place and with that extra bit of highlight around the liner it makes the lips look slightly plumperr aswell

This overlining only works on camera. I have a girl in my year in uni, she obviously doesn't realise that 70% of internet make-up hacks and looks are not meant for outside - she shaved half her eyebrows to get thet "lifted look" even though it just looks like a missing eyebrow, ridiculous amount of glittery blush and lips so overlined it looks like she ate the lipstick
