This review is about to be more important now than it was a year ago. Thank you, Spyderco.
I love the rounded spine Italian knives are known for.
This is my knife. I kind of expected the criticism and I agree with them, but for some reason I really like it. Objectively it has problems, but the machining gives it character and I love the lines.

I just ordered one and if it doesn't flip well I'm gonna convince myself it's just a classically Italian design, like a Ferrari. Not particularly practical, not particularly comfortable, but those lines.... my god those lines 😍

It is a beautiful design. The only lionsteel knives I haven't liked the design of are the SR series (SR1 , SRII etc). But all their others from slipjoints to their fixed blades have all been beautiful imo.

I own a ROK; opening works great but closing is hard and clunky; but it is super durable, and I love the hidden clip; good, good knife for me
I was literally looking at these knives today and like 5 min after I saw this video. Let's just say I'm glad you did a review before I bought it. As always, I appreciate your content because I'm not able to handle knives like these before I decide to buy one.
I have never owned a Lionsteel folder, but the fixed blades are awesome. The T5 and the B35 are both top notch!

@@dkperu8558 I haven’t had any issues. I know they had some problems with heat treatment several years ago, but they have since rectified the problem from my understanding. I’m currently waiting for them to release the new M6 model. I plan to get one as soon as they are dropped.
I got recommended this video after the Spymyto came out, nice Hope to see a Spymyto review soon
I have the CF version of this knife! Love mine. I definitely know what you're talking about with the flipping experience. Perhaps my detent was a bit weaker than yours, but I had luck with flipping the flipper tab around and have been using it that way ever since with no issues!
I own the Myto Molletta Special Edition in K390 and the knife is top: the materials are top notch, the K390 at 64 hrc, the action is butter smooth and the overall fit and finish is flawless. In my opinion it's a great knife.

I almost bought the k390 version a few times, but the blade geometry cancels out a lot of the areas I've found k390 to excel. I do have the SpyMyto on the way, though. Im still hoping it's ground thinner, but at least the extra thickness BTE can bolster the m398's lacking toughness.
I just got a bronze ti version, and mine is buttery smooth to flip open. Push button or light switch. Perfect detent. So, they’re not all bad.
Just got mine. *sigh* You really just pick on the smallest stuff when you don't like a knife. The flipper isn't that bad. But it definitely isn't push button. So what I did was loosen the screw and turn it around to change the angle on it. Now it's a smooth push button deployment on the flipper. Now I know I have both options for a push-down or button style flipper. I just wish it had a threaded hole on the back side of the blade so I could put the flipper in a front flipper configuration. If anyone finds the flipper uncomfortable they should try it. I watch and use your channel for information. But boy do we have a disagreement in taste.
The small end of the tool fits the flipper tab, removable. Euro laws, gotta figure out ways around them.

I noticed that too 👍
I've been waiting for your review of this, got one as a christmas gift and love it, I'm not too sure about the flipping action because I have to try to have mine fail. I did add a little oil because of that grittyness so totally agree there but once thats added it flips fine.
Man that’s a good looking knife too bad about the flaws. Thanks MC!
I bought my son a Myto for when he travels to Europe (non flipper laws). There is no detent issue with his full Ti model. I flipped it moments ago. It’s fine. However, the pressure provided by the lock bar on the detent ball is a bit much, and is likely due to insufficient relief milling on the lock bar, which contributes significantly to the detent issue. You indicated repeatedly that you were “afraid” to flip it because it was too painful. With all the knives you review and flip, you would think the nerve endings of your fingers would become desensitized, and/or callus build up on your index finger so that it wouldn’t hurt flipping a knife with a strong detent and imperfect flipper tab.
When the time comes to add a LionSteel to the collection, Ill be looking at the Myto
thanks for honest review
Like the Myto a lot.
I was looking at this knife back in December. The action of the Myto I tried was exactly like that. Uncomfortable to flip and incredibly stiff detent. Lockbar was also very hard to disengage but I think that might be due to the knife being new.
I really like the look of the bronzed sr11 or sr1 lionsteel makes. Not sure witch model I'm talking about lol but both I mentioned are nice either way.
I have this knife with black micarta and love it, and mine has really smooth flipping and closing action. It's too bad this one is stiff and giving you a bad impression. I like mine so much I may buy a second one in full titanium
10:23 The absolute power in that "shut up" 😭
You can adjust the lock bar and it'll loosen the action. I have one of their M1s in CMP M4 steel, they need to make more fixed blades in that steel
"If you push-button when you should've light-switched, you're gonna have a bad time!" 😂
I look at this as kind of a bushcraft folder. It is reminiscent of the b40/b41. That could be a reason for the stock thickness.
Hah, nice! I was thinking of getting framelock knife with thick stock blade.
The “problem” with Lionsteel’s M390 from a couple years back turned out to be completely wrong. You can search LTK’s channel for his apologies to Lionsteel for the whole thing.

To an extent, because their m390 didn't do well on many cardboard cut test.
I have two Myto's and a G10 TRE. I've noticed you have to flick your finger straight down the back of the knife to flip it; push button doesn't work well. My small experience with Lionsteel flippers has shown they require a very particular movement to open the knife. Not my favorite flipping action, but the fit and finish of the knives are excellent. My biggest gripe about the Myto is the incredibly thick spine and blade stock. I have many knives with 4mm thick blade stock that don't seem as chunky as the Myto. The action and detent on my two aren't bad, so I think you potentially have a lemon.
I bought two, a gray and a bronze both full titanium. The detent should improve with use. I love the design and attention to detail.
Thank you for thus. It's such a shame it is a very nice looking knife. I was planning to get one but you just saved me a lot of aggravation and also a little money.
I love it you just said it as you found it, I personally think it’s a problem in the factory where you got one little bunch of workers trying to get a pay rise by cocking little things up on purpose lol, all kidding aside it is a damn shame why they just can’t listen to the people it’s not as if this is the first time theses things have been said about them. But it’s like they see them as a trade mark the mental lot. You have yourself a beautiful day M_C stay safe and healthy 😘👍
I have a Lionsteel Rok, and it too was unpleasant to flip. It took some breaking in and adaptation before it was tolerable.
They call that a floating back spacer. I’ve seen a few newer Italian models coming out with them.
I love Lionsteel, they do such a great job with certain things. My ROK is just like this way too stiff, gritty slow action. It's SO frustrating. Everything else about the knife is perfect (IMO) except the action. Lionsteel really needs to go back to the drawing board and make these things feel as good as they look. Especially for the price tag on them...

I sold my ROK. I am not a huge fidgeter...but the action on the ROK broke my heart. Knife was great in many ways - but the action killed it.
Whats the best knife under 250? Preferably in magnacut?
Ok. I have a ti damascus. The flip is so hard to break free. It is gritty and I thought mine was a problem. Is anyone able to suggest a way to get it to how I expect it to be. I bought mine from a knife specialist on Rome. I'm now in Australia - should I contact LionSteel?
The cut for the frame lock is huge. Looks like a $40 kershaw frame lock cut

So close to a knife I'd buy. The flipper tab complaints are a bummer, the stock is too thick, and no jimping. I love the looks of it so much, but oh well. Those are things that I can truck myself into saying they don't matter, but I end up never carrying them. I still haven't found a knife that I like both functionally and aesthetically that I like more than sebenzas.
Also lionsteels m390 if at lower hrc. Is prolly pretty tough lol

@@metal_complex right, but i guess if somebody is looking for m390 in a budget knife, they have one, and of course the s35vn, but d2 is still great for 32 bucks, and everybody knows qsp's fit and finish, just thought it was pretty cool and didnt know if you knew!

MC got a Myto with a stiff action. The ones I own have a respectable action. Fox also makes great flippers. Viper makes a lot of Giantmouse knives, and we know how popular they are. I think the biggest issue with Italian knives are their QC, but they’re absolutely amazing if you get a good one.
The detent ball fell out of mine day 1
It's important to remember that Italians prioritize style over most everything. Molletta is their designer and he wanted the thick blade & a wider gap to the lock bar... that's all there is to it. I have one and it's fine - basically a bigger version of the T.R.E. The detent on mine isn't that heavy but I can understand your complaint about the flipper tab - you're basically applying force to the corner of the tab. I guess they debuted some new versions with aluminum scales at SHOT Show which are priced lower.
I have a number of lion steel knives and they are all very well made. If you tighten the screw before testing, no wonder the blade is difficult to open. The information about the Böhler M390 is also incorrect. It belongs to the absolute top group of knife steels for pocket knives. This is a gentleman's knife, not something you use to split wood in the woods. Other KZread videos are much better researched

Well said. Thank you.
Can you flip the flipper? 🤔
Pity about this nice looking knife. I believe that big gap by the lock bar is for your edc toothpicks.
Love the design but it has to be comfortable to flip.
Oww my finger!
Because thick blades are awesome man. Lol
I’d say the bad action has a lot to do with lock bar pressure
I recently ordered the lionsteel nano and immediately send it right back. The detent and flipper tab are literally the WORST I have ever seen/felt on a folding knife. How on the world lionsteel thought it would be acceptable is beyond me. Too bad, otherwise they're well built and the designs are cool.
Uh second..?
