Thats because they made the ticket prices so expensive most Kiwi's couldn't afford them. Then there was the accommodation prices for the Lions supporters, they were being charged ridiculous prices when they played the AB's.

Faletaus finish needs a mention.

Just stumbled across this, interesting comments. As a Kiwi, unless we beat a side comprehensively there is always a nagging doubt that we weren't really good enough. As an example, we were very lucky to beat England at Twickers when Underhill's try was ruled out - few Kiwis remember that as a great win. So even though the red card was well deserved, I could never brag about a 15 against 14 win.

I think the difference is NZ are almost always favourites, the lions are almost always not. New Zealand expected to beat England, but only just did so. Lions were expected to lose to NZ but just about pulled off a win.

@@royphair9676 As a longtime (mid 1980's) All Blacks supporter it has nearly always been about not just winning, but winning well. So, if the opposition were to lose a man, it would seem like a hollow victory no question. Take the NZ Black Ferns win in the Women's WC over a 14 man England. Everyone seems to think it was a great, courageous win but I just can't get past the fact that England were looking the better side - until they lost a player. Doesn't matter that it was the correct decision, the 'contest' had changed.

It's unfortunately true. I was watching footage of the successful Lions Tour '71 recently, and the high tackles from New Zealand were appalling. And nothing has changed. A great team, but very dirty. Spearing Brian O'Driscoll that time? He should have been up in court for that.

I watched the little docu/movie about the third game... One of the coaches is getting ready to send Sinckler on as a sub and he says to him. 'they're gonna come for you, promise me you won't react'. Team's know he has a short and they try to get reactions out of him. There's good footage of Wyn Jones drawing a foul out of him off the ball too. Good player though

I'm Australian, and both parents are Irish. So just to clarify for all I was supporting lions in this game and was thrilled with the win. That said I felt bitter it came off an unjustified penalty. I think the lions deserved the win though

You mean, to reinforce the soccer like display of faux outrage in an attempt to give that facepalmingly appalling ruling an air of credibility, while actually having none. It’s funny that in the test where a BIL’s player deliberately caught a ball in an offside position, in clear view of every observer, then realizing his guilt and throwing it to the ground, at a moment that would’ve quite rightly given the series to the AB’s, was regarded by yet another NH ref as accidental, as if that meant it wasn’t a penalty. A shower of bull-schidtting, self trimming bastiches all round it seems.

Fair commentating

God only knows how the referee determines who is at fault in the scrum. It is never shown in replay because it is too subtle and the commentators have not a clue why . Yet it leads to three points.

There have been comments elsewhere about the Lions beating 14 men. Not quite - 14 men and a dirty bastard. All Black's have been getting away with this for years.
