Like Beckham, it'll be a flash in the pan, and while highlights will come out... nobody will actually care after a year or so. The US doesn't grow players like South America/EU does because if you're athletic, you play another sport... if you want money. Most players coming over from Europe hate playing in the MLS due to the travel. Miami play LAFC in September. That's 6+ hours of flying, each way. Toronto? 4 hours each way. There's no domestic flight in Spain, France, England or Germany over 3 hours. You're home the same night, with your family. That won't happen in the MLS. He's coming here to retire. It'll be a wake up call for him when he has to fly multiple hours for every single game.

Barcelona were ran so bad financially even before Messi left Barca. They kept getting into more debt, taking in high wage demands from players who don’t play as much, and getting rid of players who were playing massive minutes for the squad, such as Neymar and Suarez, who won La Liga after he left. I am embarrassed for my fellow Americans when they talk soccer. He wasn't going to "save the business". Barcelona just won La Liga. The team is in great shape. They had financial problems but they are navigating them. Messi wanted to return to Braca because he loves it. But despite all of the encouraging words from people at Barcelona, he didn't see a real path to get back there and the only options were for Barca to sell some very important players. Messi didn't want that and the team wasn't prepared to do that. He chose Miami because it was the best available option and he didn't want to spend anymore time in limbo about his future.

This is more than just Messi. It’s a cultural shift. The best young players will want to come to play with Messi or to play against Messi. Messi will inspire kids to want to be like Messi. It’s a huge shift for the sport in America.
In Castilian Spanish, "s" is still pronounced as "s" while "Z"and "C"" before e or i is pronounced like th. So "Barthelona" is correct, but definitely not "Methi" - especially for a South American, as South America does not use the "th" sound which Spaniards use all the time.
To the point about ticket sales for Inter Miami: since 2020 they have played a total of 51 home games at DRV PNK stadium in Ft. Lauderdale with an average attendance of 12,209 (in an 18,000 seat stadium). Messi immediately bumps that way up for the rest of this year, and probably all of next year

For everyone asking why he's calling him 'Methi' and 'Bartherlona' is because in Spanish/Spain the correct pronunciation sounds like 'Barthelona' with no mention of the C. But Pat is dawn right confusing him to be Spanish and mis-pronouncing his name. With salary, club ownership, Apple money, and Adidas money, Messi's deal in Miami might be far more valuable than what the Saudis offered him. Granted, the details aren't public, to the best of my knowledge. But, if he gets a 20% share of a club which is appreciating at a rate of 15% per year, and 2.5% of Apple TV MLS revenue for as long as he's in the league, as well as increased Adidas revenue.... I can easily see the total value of the deal exceeding $2 billion.
Cool for the MLS this happens all the time tho and good for him
MLS can be a bigger league than the NBA if they do this. Sign all the best players in the world in their PRIME! not in their mid-late 30s. Although Messi is still a huge signing. Getting Mbappe would be bigger since Mbappe is 24.

The problem is that has been said for 2 decades now…..and now you have to compete with other retirement leagues and trust me the political tensions here don’t help

They sell more young players than they sign old ones. Like Miguel Almiron, he was in MLS before they sold him to newcastle.

A lot of other leagues get players too. You just don’t hear about it probably because it’s not covered here in america But definitely Messi along with Ronaldo are the biggest most notable names of all
