Now if you ask all the players to play for the badge and not to care about money, to accept pay cuts and so on why should we treat Messi differently? No player is above the club, remember?

Messi's dad has always been slimy in his business dealings. I remember during the tax fraud case, Messi stated that he had little to no control of his finances and that everything was overseen by his father, so this doesn't come as a surprise. Let's hope Messi makes the right choice.
