Incredible overview of the new Mint. Thank you for covering this. You've done a great job. I am so happy to have found your channel. So many features in Mint, makes me realize that I am not as fearful about Dec of 2025. I've got machines that are Win10 and can't go up to Win11 ... like i7-6700k (two or three of those). So, I'm gonna move my File Servers to Lint, I think.

Even though I'm 100% pro-Linux, if you're super deeply embedded in Windows it's really not hard at all to make those Windows 10 machines run 11. I've done it on two or three of my older machines that were previously Windows, then later changed to Linux, just because I wanted to see how Windows 11 would run on them. Spoiler: it wasn't good. But it worked, and it was easy with just a short registry edit.

Maybe you can answer this; why does the latest upgrade disable our laptop sound cards, and why does Mint not address this with a fix or a rollback, or even a setting tab in the system settings? It's very irritating having to use a Bluetooth speaker, instead of our previously fine sound apps. Not all users are tech whizzes.

One of the biggest disadvantages in using Linux is the fragmentation. Way, way too much time is spent creating new distros from scratch, or forking old ones. Dev's just want their 15 minutes of fame in being able to say they have a github and founded some linux os, lmao. I know this is Mint, but the issue of working things being removed, and later introduced as a "new feature" isn't confined to Windows :)

I wish Mint gave you an option at install to use something other than systemd. I don't care about the Linux philosophical problems with systemd, but I have a Dell 3189 that's SUPER slow to boot with systemd. I've got MXLinux on it which boots with SysV (actually switchable to systemd - if you really want it), and it's probably twice as quick at boot. Nevermind my little 2-core Acer E11...it just about freezes with Mint. I love Mint on my more powerful stuff, but for my low-spec hardware it's just too heavy in several ways.

@@kae0196thanks, yeah, I've looked at Puppy and all of its variants, but after ten years of distro hopping and setting up distros, I've kind of settled into what I enjoy and want in one, in an old man set in his ways manner. I've grown to love the beauty and maturity of Mint, and in my opinion only, it's the nicest, most convenient distro out there without a lot of user manipulation required. At this point I just need my distro to get out of the way and let me get work done, so I (no disrespect to what you use and enjoy) don't want to waste my limited time messing around with system adjustments. I've got one Windows writing program that teeters on unuseable with most all distros, but runs very well and beautifully with Mint, so I'm constrained (in my mind) to trying to make that work. But thank you for that recommendation! If I get time I'll look into Puppy again. Have a great day.

Cinnamon is awful. I think I'm switching to XFCE or going back to Windows. You can't change the Panel's application icons to stack vertically when more than one application is open, you know, like Windows XP. It took me 2 hours to find out where to turn off the Desktop Background. It's under a drop down menu called Picture Aspect Ratio (default 1.2) I can increase the Title Bar Font Size on my windows, but not resize the tiny close box X icon buttons. It's all very frustrating and it's like they did no user testing before they rolled it out.

To me it's still looking dated. Free and open linux distros - they all have the same problem (yes, even Plasma looks just so so). Chineese distros like Deepin, FydeOS (ChromeOS-copy) or my favourite Ubuntu Kylin look a lot better - fresh, minimalistic, functionally, but these are not trustworthy. I love the apperance of ChromeOS, Ubuntu Kylin or Windows8, Windows10, and I wish there was at least one free distro looking stunning just out of the box without spending hours on customisation. (Gnome looks not too bad, but it has completely different philosophy and to me it is not a DE for every day use).
